Souvenez-vous… Enfants vous avez ramassé au cours de vos promenades ces menues trouvailles, serrées précieusement au fond de vos poches : plumes, brindilles ou écorchures d’arbres. Elles venaient ainsi rejoindre un butin déjà riche d’ailes de papillons, de ficelles, coquillages ou cailloux aux formes précieuses. Chacun de ces objets vous contait son histoire, rêverie qui venait adoucir l’austère paysage du quotidien, se glisser entre les pages de vos manuels de grammaire, heurter la pure ordonnance de la géométrie urbaine. C’est ce contraste que l’on retrouve dans les œuvres de Guy Briand où la grâce enfantine, intimement mêlée à l’extrême rigueur des constructions, s’offre dans ses enclos transparents. Avec bonheur nous sommes invités à découvrir le subtil équilibre de ses architectures de carton, entre abstraction lyrique et cubisme, au coeur desquelles se tapissent trésors glanés, totems et tabous, énigmes colorées qui ne cessent d’interroger et dont la clef, qui se dérobera à chaque vision, est source même de poésie.

Remember… As a child you collected these little treasures during your walks, holding them tight in your pockets : feathers, twigs or barks of trees. They were joining a collection full of butterfly wings, shells or rocks in precious shapes. Each object told you its story, a daydream making the austere daily landscape a little sweeter, slipping between the pages of your grammar books, hurting the urban geometry’s pure order. We find this contrast in Guy Briand’s work where the childhood grace meets the extreme construction’s rigor and is given in trans-parent enclosures. We are happily invited to discover the subtle balance of his folder’s architecture, between lyrical abstraction and cubism, within the heart lie collected treasures, totems and taboos, colourfull enigmas who can’t stop you from wondering. The key itself, concealed in every vision, is source of poetry.
