2. SYMPOSIUM AN METHODS OFEVALUATING RESOURCESOF UNDERGROUND WATERWITH EMPHASIS ON ARIDZONE PROBLEMS

The programme will consist of the followingtopics.

a) Considerations on:i) Hydrogeological observations in the

search for underground water.

2) Essais a faire au cours de la pros­pection des Eaux Souterraines.

b) Etude hydrodynamique des typesrationels de captage et recherches sur lesmoyens d'en accroitre la duree de fonction­nement.

c) Hydrodynamique des captages s'in­fluencant mutuellem.ent.

d) Etude du mecanisme de l'alimen­tation des nappes aquiferes pour arriver aune evaluation des ressources en eaux sou­terraines en y comprenant la recharge arti­ficielle des nappes.

e) Etude et provisions des fluctuationsdes niveaux (ou des hauteurs piezornetriques)et de la composition chimique des eaux sou­terraines au cours de leur exploitation. Pro­cedes pour reduire ces fluctuations.

Les textesne peuvent depasser 15 pages dactylographieesa double interligne. Les figures seront nume­rotees et porteront le nom de 1'auteur auverso.

Les dirigeants des comites nationauxvoudront bien faire examiner la valeur scien­tifique des communications presentees avantde les faire parvenir au Secretariat de I'A.I.­H .S. lIs refuseront les rapports publics ante­rieurement. Un comite de selection de laCommission des Eaux souterraines del 'A.I.H.S. choisira les rapports qui serontpublies en priorite,

ii) Tests to be made during prospec­ting for underground water.

b) Hydrodynamic studies of the prin­ciples underlying the control of yield fromwells and galleries and the means of increasingtheir effective life.

c) Hydrodynamic studies on the mutualinfluence of wells or galleries.

d) Study of the mechanism of the intakeinto aquifers to arrive at an evaluation ofresources of underground water, includingartifical recharge of aquifers.

e) Study and forecasting of fluctuationsof the water table (or the piezometric levels)and of the chemical composition of under­ground water during its exploitation. Proce­dures to be used to reduce their fluctuations.

Some details. -

The title, author's name and summaryof each paper should reach the Secretary ofthe International Association of ScientificHydrology by the 1st. February, 1961, at thelatest. The complete text of the paper withits accessories should reach him before the1st June 1961. The accessories in questionare the figures, drawn on tracing paper orcloth and ready for reproduction, also, shouldsuch be necessary, photographs, as few innumber as possible. The text should notexceed 15 pages of double-spaced typescript.The figures should be numbered and eachbear the name of the author on the reverse.

National committees should kindly exa­mine the scientific value of each paper sub­mitted before forwarding it to the LA.S.H.secretariat. They should refuse those paperswhich have already been published elsewhere.A selection committee of the GroundwaterCommission of LA.S.H. will decide whichpapers shall be given priority in being publis­hed.

Papers reaching the secretariat afterthe 1st June 1961 will not be discussed at thesymposium.
