Some things we’ve learned

China: a big market opportunity, a big sourcing opportunity

China is not just for low-tech, high labour-content products

The Canadian Embassy and the Bureau du Québec à Beijing can be very helpful

• Understanding the market, making introductions, securing government interest/approval for your project if required

Importance of knowing basic Chinese history, culture, and business practices

Importance of “personal” relationships

• Chinese do business with the person first, then the company

Importance of understanding hierarchies and decision-making power

Three most important things: patience, patience, patience
