Aristech acrylics GPA ( general purpose acrylic ) and metallic sheets

Aristech acryl ic continuous cast GPA sheet is the choice to make when the cost of labor and mater ials is your major considerat ion.Our GPA is inventor ied in many standard size, including one metal l ic. It is avai lable in almost unl imited lengths and in width up to110 inches ( on request, some minimum quanti ty may apply ). GPA is avai lable in a wide range of reel s izes, offering you potential inventory reductions. Extremely versati le, our GPA can be formed, decorated, cemented, f lame pol ish and cut to any shapes or sizes. With i ts superior propert ies and virtual ly unl imited sizes and colors, Ar istech acryl ic GPA and metal l ic sheets offer you exceptional design freedom at an economical pr ice.

Colors

Aristech acryl ic GPA is avai lable, on request, in a wide array of standard colors. Addit ional ly, we are capable of matching and producing any color to your exacting specif icat ions. We offer three br i l l iant metal l ic colors – nickel , s i lver, and gold – that have exceptional depth and r ichness. ( on request, some minimum quanti ty may apply ).

Availability

Aristech acryl ic GPA and metal l ic sheets can be suppl ied in sheets or on reels with length l imited only by the pract ical i ty of handl ing and shipping. Reels can save you t ime and money by providing a means of eff ic ient storage and handl ing and improved fabr icat ion techniques through the el imination of unsightly and cost ly seams and joints. Our GPA sheets can be suppl ied in widths from 24' ' to 110' ' and in thickness ranging from 0,100' ' to 0,500' ' with s ingle or double-sided polyf i lm or paper masking. Our metal l ic acryl ic sheet is avai lable in standard thickness of 0.118' ' and 0.177' ' . ( on request, some minimum quanti ty may apply )

Formability

Aristech Acryl ic GPA and metal l ic sheets can be cold formed at room temperature to yie ld generous curved surfaces with consistency. Our sheets can also be thermoformed for appl icat ions that require smal ler curvatures or unusual shapes. In the thermoforming process, the sheet is heated to approximately 360 degrees Fahrenheit and is then drawn into the desired shapeby vacuum or air pressure.

Weather resistance

Outstanding weather res istance propert ies have al lowed Aristech Acryl ic GPA sheet to be used successful ly in aircraft glazing for over 40 years and in outdoor sign appl icat ion in hot and cold environments for more than 30 years.

Resistance to temperature extremes

Aristech Acryl ic GPA sheet can withstand continuous temperature up to 180 degrees Fahrenheit with l i tt le or no effect on product propert ies. Higher temperature can be tolerated for short per iods of t ime without permanent damage. Our GPA remains very serviceable at extremely low temperature ( -30 degrees Fahrenheit ) with only a sl ight reduction in impact resistance.

Impact resistance

Aristech Acryl ic GPA and metal l ic sheets have 10 to 17 t imes greater impact ( breakage ) res istance than glass in equivalent thickness.

Optical clarity

Aristech Acryl ic GPA sheet has optical propert ies that are equal to or better than ordinary glass. Clear GPA has approximately 93% l ight transmittance compared to 88% for ordinary glass.

Insulating values

Aristech Acryl ic GPA sheet is a better insulator than glass. The abi l i ty of mater ial to conduct heat is represented by i ts coeff ic ient of thermal conductiv i ty ( K factor ). Our GPA and metal l ic sheets have a K factor of 1.4 compared to between 5 or 6 for ordinary glass. This means that with zero wind velocity on both s ides of the windows pane, ordinary glass conduct heat aboutfour to f ive t imes faster than Aristech Acryl ic GPA or metal l ic sheets. The overal l coeff ic ient of heat transmiss ion ( U factor ) of our sheets is 1.04 compared to 1.25 for glass, indicat ing that our GPA and metal l ic sheets are approximately 20% better insulators than ordinary glass.

Acrysteel IGP® and Acrysteel IMA®

Aristech Acryl ic products offers two impact-res istant acryl ic sheets made by the continuous cast ing process: Acrysteel IGP ( improved general purpose ) and IMA ( impact matte acryl ic ). The two products are engineered thermoplast ic having anexcel lent balance of physical propert ies and performance not avai lable in other engineered, more expensive sheet products.

Our Acrysteel l ine of thermoplast ic sheet is ideal for appl icat ions requir ing more impact res istance than GPA sheet but less than more highly engineered polycarbonate sheet now on the market. In addit ion, they offer the fabr icator superior processing propert ies to polycarbonate sheet products.

Our Acrysteel products are high gloss, hard surfaced thermoplast ic sheets that don't require special surface preparation. They have no UV barr ier coating and contain no t int, hiding agents – they don't need them! Our sheets perform the UV barr ier functionnatural ly.

Acrysteel IGP and Acrysteel IMA, an impact acryl ic sheet with a one-s ided matte f in ish for non-glare appl icat ions, have been sold to the s ign industry for many years. Spartech Sunguard Polycarbonate

For backl i t s ign faces, demanding structural integr i ty in an economic package, Sungard® is the mater ial of choice. Special ly formulated to provide maximum impact resistance, greatly superior forming and fabr icat ion character ist ics, and high heat res istance, Sungard® is highly versati le in a wide var iety of s ign appl icat ions. Sungard® is avai lable in f lat sheet and reels in ei ther smooth or matte f in ish. Sign white and other standard and customs colors are avai lable upon request.

The f i rst al l -polycarbonate weatherable sheet product, combine the impact strength of general purpose polycarbonate with outstanding U.V. stabi l i ty. Sunguard is h ighly res istant to weathering, discolorat ion, surface haze, lose of impact strengthor other propert ies after prolonged outdoor exposure.

Sunguard represents a scienti f ic breakthrough in polycarbonate sheet technology which, through a unique extrusion process, imparts ultra-violet res istance to the polycarbonate structure i tse l f .

Sunguard has a twelve year l imited warranty against breakage ( under normal condit ions ), excess ive yel lowing andloss of l ight transmiss ion.

Impact strength

In addit ion to outstanding res istance to yel lowness and haze, Sunguard has the inherent impact strength of general purpose polycarbonate since no coating, lamination or foreign mater ial is appl ied. And , unl ike general purpose polycarbonate, the impactstrength is retained over t ime.

Weatherability

The superior weatherabi l i ty of Sunguard polycarbonate sheet has been demonstrated in both accelerated and actual outdoor weathering test programs. The fol lowing charts show comparisons of Sunguard to general purpose polycarbonate, measuring yel lowness index and haze. Unlike some competit ive polycarbonate sheet products, Sunguard is al l polycarbonate so that delamination, mold st icking and weathering away of post-appl ied coatings wi l l not occur.

Fabrication

Sungard® can be dr i l led, routed, sawed, sheared, punched or die cut us ing the proper tools and techniques. High speed carbide-t ipped twist dr i l ls wi l l give good results; dr i l ls must have sharp cutt ing edges to avoid ' ' notching ' the plast ic. When shearing, use blades with a 45º degree angle or less. Most conventional mechanical f ix ing methods such as screws and r ivets can be used; adhesive and solvent bonding are possible. For proper mechanical fastening, always over-dr i l l the hole by 1/16of an inch to al low for expansion. Use an approved si l icone sealant in the hole with the fasteners to inhibit stress cracking at the hole.

Cutting

Sungard® can be cut with standard high-speed metal working tools; carbide-t ipped blades are recommended for longer l i fe. Circular saws with tr iple chip or bevel led tooth type blades with about two teeth per inch are recommended , with blade-speeds in the 6000 to 8000 rpm range. Band saws having 10 to 18 teeth per inch and blade speeds of 2500 to 3000 feet per minute should be adequate for smooth, c lean cuts.

Cementing

Bonding Sungard® to i tse l f and to other plast ics can be accompl ish. Excel lent results can be obtained with urethane adhesives,Weld-on #55 by IPS. Si l icones by GE plast ics are also recommended. Solvent cementing may also be used. ( for more information,contact your representative )

Thermoforming

Sungard® can be vacuum-formed on virtual ly al l thermoforming equipment from high-volume mult i -stat ion rotary machines to single-stat ion or shutt le presses; pressure forming techniques have also been highly successful . Excel lent forming detai l can usual ly be obtained at sheet temperatures of 350º – 425º F; al l normal tool ing mater ials such as aluminium, epoxy and var ious hardwoods can be used. For optimum results, remove protect ive f i lm and space sheets one inch apart in an air-c irculat ing oven.




Painting

Sungard® can be easi ly painted and s i lk screened by using standard mater ials and techniques. Based on thorough test ing byAkzo Nobel, the fol lowing products are suggested. Fol low the manufacturer 's guidel ines for proper paint ing and pain removal procedures. Always remove solvents from plast ic sheet as quickly as possible to prevent solvent attack.

Pre-drying

The most cr i t ical step in the thermoforming process is proper drying of the sheet. The most eff ic ient temperature is 250ºF. Drying t ime is dependent upon oven conf igurat ion, air c i rculat ion, sheet thickness. See chart for suggested start ing points.Note: Always remove protect ive f i lm when drying sheet at over 200ºF.
