The special issue includes 12 articles plus an editorial overview on aquatic resource systems in different parts of the world with a focus on the way in which legal pluralism influences governance. The opening article by the editors includes a typology on relations between legal systems that is utilized by all contributors to the special. The closing paper synthesizes the various contributions and suggests a way forward.
