T he artist is fascinated by the history and geography ofsites, which he discovers in their details, their structuralrecurrences and their “contextualisation”, but not just

any of them. “Extreme” cities or cities that are becoming morewesternised (Lisbon, Istanbul, Alexandria, Reykjavik) andwhich are situated next to the sea, on telluric fault lines or nearvolcanoes, create a particular symbiosis with nature and theforces which emerge from it. Past civilisations chose these locations to build the most beautiful and important cities in humanity, overcoming difficulties and dangers (eruptions, landslides, earthquakes) to benefit from the vital energy thatthey possess.

For Garo, art is a search for knowledge, an attempt to under-stand our environment, our origins and our identity. Any actmade in such a context immediately opens up to thought andposes its share of existential questions necessary for a free life. This results in a sensitive and marked outlook on the world, which ultimately does not leave anyone indifferent, as his workalways tries to make a connection to the environment and tohumanity, offering innovative, understated, aesthetic and pow-erful answers.

An undertaking that is more intense and more original everytime. Bernard Garo is a multi-faceted and multidisciplinaryartist, whose creative force expresses itself mainly through themedium of painting, but also through other techniques (pho-tography, live performances, installations). He also achieves,in collaboration with other artists (designers, graphic design-ers, interior designers, landscapers, engineers, architects), acertain number of artistic integrations in architectural space.

Artistic work in a natural space, in a scene, in architecture or town planning, will be faced with various stimulating con-straints. The materials and media become a key challenge forthe artist and the multidisciplinary team surrounding him.

In this context, it is more interesting to integrate an artist intoa project from its creation, rather than coming in at the end.

As, beyond any process, the artist possesses a different spatialperception, sensitive to rhythms, to resonances, with a height-ened sensitivity to the subject, to materials, to light and colour,as if he felt them on his skin. This can serve as an enrichingdialogue with architects.

Indeed, a simple harmony of spaces, of subjects and an open-ness to light can create a perfect space, in which a work can beintegrated and resonate, arousing emotions, in a spatial reflec-tion and a tension in balance with the building. This encourages the artists to create energy and innovationthrough art in living spaces and people's daily lives, in collab-oration with architects.

The artist is currently in the final stage of a pictorial conceptwhich will lead him to complete a book of art in 2015 (his fifth)at a large art editor in Switzerland, which will be accompaniedby a travelling exhibition on a Swiss and European level, as wellas a documentary film. This will be the occasion to discover theoriginal work of a francophone Swiss artist looking for our iden-tity on the peripheries of our western culture. A key project witha sensitive outlook, based on order and chaos, balance andimbalance, the immutable and movement that reveals thefragility of our society and cities in comparison with their natu-ral environment, in a pictorial work that is rich and generous, broad and innovative. The various rocks found in the wild addan original mineral touch, which singles out Garo's pictorialwriting while providing a mini contextual history of the workand an original transposition close to the earth and to certainvalues, sometimes approaching arte povera.Meanwhile, the artist is open to tailor made projects as well asother innovative research.
