VINCE GILL

Vincent Grant Gill est né le 12 avril 1957 à Norman dansl’Oklahoma.Son père J. Stanley Gill décédé en 1997, était juge fédéral etsa mère Jerere Gill était femme au foyer. Vince a grandi dans unmilieu aisé. Son frère Bob est décédé en 1993, il a encore unesœur Gina.Déjà au lycée il joua avec un groupe de Teenagers nommé« Bluegrass Revue », fin des années 1970.Joueur de golf invétéré, Vince a dû décider pendant ses étudesdans la High School s’il poursuivrait dans une carrière de golfeurou comme musicien.

SA VIE / SA CARRIÈRE

Vince a appris à jouer de la guitare, du banjo, de la mandoline etdu violon.Il commença à écrire « Go Rest High On That Mountain » pour lechanteur Keith Whitley qui décéda d’alcoolisme, et il complétacette chanson après la mort de son frère en l’honneur des deuxhommes.Il écrivit « It Won’t Be The Same This Year », une chanson deNoël pour son frère et « The Key » pour son père.

Il a été sollicité pour rejoindre le groupe de Dire Straits,  maisa décliné pour poursuivre sa carrière solo.Mark Knopfler de Dire Straits était un fan de la musique deVince.Sa carrière musicale débuta dans le Bluegrass et il s’installa dansle Kentucky, à Louisville en 1975 ou il joua dans des groupescomme Bluegrass Alliance, Mountain Smoke. Il joua égalementdans le groupe Boone Creek, avec Ricky Skaggs.

En 1976 Vince rejoint le groupe Sundance à Los Angeles avec levioloniste Byron Berline.Entre 1979 et 1983, il a été le chanteur du groupe de Country-Rock » les « Pure Prairie League » qui avait obtenu un Hit auTop 10 pop en 1980 avec « Let Me Love You Tonight ».

Puis il devint membre du groupe  les Cherry Bombs de RodneyCrowell et de sa femme Rosanne Cash. (fille de Johnny Cash)

 Son voyage à Nashville en 1984 coïncida avec la signature ducontrat d’enregistrement avec RCA qui se concrétisa par 3 singlesau Top 10  « If It Weren’t For Him » avec Rosanne Cash,« Oklahoma Borderline » et «  Cinderella ».Pendant les 5 années suivantes, Vince Gill passe beaucoup detemps dans les studios accompagnant les autres ou en tournéeavec Emmylou Harris.Après le Label RCA, il rentre chez MCA et son premier album decountry traditionnelle chez MCA en 1989  est « When I CallYour Name » vendu à 2 millions d’exemplaires.De nombreux albums et singles seront en première ligne dans lescharts durant les années 1990 tels que "I Still Believe in You,""Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away," "The Heart Won'tLie" (avec Reba McEntire), "One More Last Chance" et "Tryin' toGet Over You."Vince n’est pas seulement un grand chanteur, compositeur,producteur et musicien, mais également présentateur etambassadeur de la Country Music dans des émissions de télévisioncomme les CMA Awards depuis 1992 ou CBS-TV.

Il quitta le Label MCA avec son ami Tony Brown pour lancer leLabel  Universal South Records et produire lui-même en 2003 sonpremier album « Next Big Thing » avec en duo Amy Grant,Emmylou Harris, Lee Ann Womack et Michael McDonald.Il chantade nombreux duos avec notamment Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss,Reba McEntire, Barbara Streisand, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall,Trisha Yearwood, Bonnie Raitt, Leann Rimes, Gretchen Wilson ….

Début 2004, Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell et Tony Brown entrent enstudio avec une légère version révisée des Cherry Bombs enpréparant un nouvel album avec Universal South et commemusiciens ceux du groupe d’origine  Richard Bennet (guitare) etHank DeVito (steel guitare).

Fin 2006 Vince retourne en studio pour cette fois-ci sortir unpack de 4 Cd’s dénommé «These Days », avec entre autre leBluegrass de ses débuts.Vince est membre du Grand Ole Opry et du Country Music HallOf Fame depuis 2007.

Vince a une carrière musicale très prolifique et a vendu plus de23 millions d’albums.Il a obtenu pour cela de nombreuses récompenses et Awards.

Vince Gill est toujours disponible, chaleureux, drôle, blagueur etgénéreux,.Il participe souvent à des spectacles ou manifestations de charitédans le basketball ou le golf.

SA VIE PRIVEE

Il s’est marié le 12 avril 1980 avec Janis Oliver avec laquelle il aeu une fille prénommée Jennifer (Jenny) née le 05 mai 1982.Janis Oliver Gill et sa sœur Kristine Oliver Arnold avaient formé legroupe des « Sweethearts Of The Rodeo ». Il divorça avec Janis le 30 juin 1998.

Après un célibat de 2 années, il convole à nouveau avec la chanteusede « Christian Pop Music »  Amy Grant le 10 mars 2000 d’où naîtraencore une fille le 12 mars 2001, la petite Corrina Grant Gill.Amy a déjà 3 enfants d’un mariage précédent.

La fille de Vince Gill, Jenny, 27 ans, a annoncé ses fiançailles avecle musicien Josh Van Valkenburg.Elle chante souvent dans les chœurs de l’orchestre de son père,mais aussi en solo dans le Jenny Gill Band.
