    Base sur la rglementation FIA R3T, DS3 R3reprend larchitecture et lapparence du modle desrie. La coque en acier dorigine est renforce par unarceau multipoints soud, assurant la rigidit duchssis et la scurit des quipages.

    Sous le capot, le quatre cylindres 1.6 THP(turbohaute pression) est dvelopp partir du moteurde srie PSA. Lemploi de pices spcifiques lacomptition (bote air, arbres cames, pistons,bielles, ligne dchappement, turbo, gestion

    lectronique) permet de porter la puissance 210 ch. Outre la puissance pure,la recherche ducouple moteur a t privilgie afin dapporterune meilleure motricit, gage dun plaisir de pilotageefficace. Avec 350 N.m, le moteur de DS3 R3 offreune souplesse dutilisation sans gal. Le moteur deDS3 R3 est livr mont, rod et test sur banc.

    DS3 R3 bnficie de lexpertise acquise par CitronRacing en Championnat du Monde des Rallyes.Ainsi, la commande de la bote de vitessessquentielle six rapports est pilote. Cedispositif assure des changements de rapport deuxfois plus rapides quune bote mcanique, tout enamliorant la fiabilit du groupe motopropulseur.

    Conues pour tre utilises sur tous les types de terrains,de la terre cassante lasphalte, les suspensionsfont galement appel aux technologies les plusmodernes.De nombreuses possibilits de rglagessont offertes, permettant dadapter le comportementde DS3 R3 tous les styles de pilotage.     Construite partir de composants issus de la srieet de pices spcifiques la comptition, DS3R3 est commercialise par Citron Racing en kitou assemble. Un kit terre, comprenant les

    THE NEWEST BENCHMARK

    In addition to its involvement in the WRC in which

    Citron Racing has wonsix FIA Manufacturers

    World Championship titles, the company has

    always made cars for sale to its clients. The

    Citron DS3 R3 has been designed with this in mind.

    The car is a good all-rounder, quick and accessible,

    and the DS3 R3 is already considered a benchmark

    in its category.

    The DS3 R3 is built to comply with the FIA R3T

    regulations; it uses the configuration of, and looks

    like the series production model. The original steel

    monocoque has been reinforced by a welded

    multipoint rollcagethat ensures the rigidity of the

    chassis and the safety of the crew.

    Under the bonnet is the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder THP

    (high pressure turbo) engine developed from the

    PSA series production version. The use of specific

    parts for competition (air box, camshafts, pistons, con

    rods, exhausts, turbo and electronic management)has increased the power output to 210 bhp.

    Besides the sheer power, the engineers have made

    a big effort to find more torqueto provide better

    traction, which makes driving more fun. The DS3

    R3 engine is delivered assembled, run in and

    bench tested.

    The expertise acquired by Citron Racing in the World

    Rally Championship has been applied to the DS3

    R3. The car has semi-automatic gear selection

    on the 6-speed sequential gearbox. This device

    makes gear changing twice as quick as on a normal

    mechanical box, while improving the reliability of the

    power train.

    The suspension has been designed for use on all

    kinds of terrain from rough gravel to asphalt, and it

    uses the most up-to-date technology.There are

    several setup adjustments available, so the DS3 R3

    can be adapted all kinds of driving styles. Citron

    Racing recommends Pirelli tyres.

    The DS3 R3 is sold on the basis of series production

    parts and specific racing components as a kit or ready

    to race. A gravel kit including suspension, front

    brake discs and additional underbody protection is

    also available.

    RIGIDIT ET SCURIT

    DS3 R3 bnficie du savoir-faire de CitronRacing en matire de scurit passive etde rigidit du chssis. La coque de srie estallge des supports dorigine inutiles,puis ressoude avant de recevoir un arceau

    multipoints . Construite selon un processusindustriel, la cage est pr-assemble lextrieurde la voiture pour garantir la qualit des soudures,puis installe dans la coque. Les monocoquessont livres quipes de tous les supports etfixationsncessaires au montage de la voiture.

    Le positionnement de lquipage a t tudipour allier ergonomie, scurit et performance.Les siges baquets sont placs au plus prsdu tunnel central, ce qui permet damliorer larpartition des masses et de complter le dispositifde protection en cas de choc latral. Toujours

    dans ce but, les portires sont quipes de panneauxen mousse absorbante la norme WRC . Plusavanc que sur la voiture de srie, le pilote bnficieainsi dune meilleure visibilit. La position deconduite peut tre adapte tous les gabaritsgrce plusieurs rglages : position du pdalier,hauteur et profondeur du volant, profondeur de la

    palette de changement de rapport, position du frein main et supports de siges.

    Toujours avec lobjectif doptimiserla rpartition des masses, la batterie et

    lextincteur automatique sont placs derrire lessiges. Conservant lemplacement dorigine, lerservoir souple est enferm dans un caisson enmatriau composite. Il est quip dun systme deremplissage de carburant aux normes FIA. DS3R3 peut embarquer deux roues de secours: lapremire sous la croix darceau et la seconde dansle panier dorigine.

    Sous le chssis, les lments mcaniques sontprotgspar un protge-carter en aluminium, unefermeture de tunnel et un ski arrire. DS3 R3 estlivre avec des passages de roues en polythylne

    prdcoups. Le kit terre comprend desprotections de bas de caisse thermoformes.

    Extrieurement, DS3 R3 ne se distingue du modlede srie que par deux dtails : la prise dair de toit et les rtroviseurs, dont la taille a t conue pourne pas perturber larodynamique.

    RIGIDITY ANDSAFETY

    The DS3 R3 takes advantage of Citron

    Racings know-how in passive safety and chassis

    rigidity. Unnecessary original supports have

    been removed from the series production

    monocoque, which is then rewelded beforea multipoint rollcage is installed . The cage

    is built industrially and pre-assembled outside the

    car to guarantee the quality of the weld before it is

    installed. The monocoques are delivered equipped

    with all the supports and fixations requiredfor

    assembling the car.

    The crews position has been studied to combine

    ergonomics, safety and performance. The bucket

    seats are placed as near as possible to the

    central tunnel, which improves weight distribution

    and protection in case of side impact . With

    this in mind, panels in impact absorbing foamcomplying with the WRC standards are fitted in the

    doors. The drivers seat is further forward than on the

    series production version to give him better visibility.

    The driving position can also be adjusted for

    all heights thanks to several settings: position of the

    pedal box, height and depth of the steering wheel,

    depth of the gear changing paddles and positions of

    the hand brake and the seat frame.

    The battery and fire extinguisher are located behind

    the seats to optimize weight distribution. Theflexible fuel tank is placed in a composite housing and

    equipped with a refuelling system complying with the

    FIA standards. The DS3 R3 can carry two spare

    wheels:one under the rollcage and the other in the

    original cradle. Under the chassis the mechanical

    components are protectedby an aluminium sump

    guard, a tunnel housing and a rear skid plate. The car

    is delivered with wheel arches in precut polythene.

    The gravel kit includes thermally moulded

    underbody protection.

    From the exterior the DS3 R3 differs from the series

    production model by two details: the air intake onthe roof and the rear-view mirrors whosedesign is made to optimize aerodynamic efficiency.

    DES SUSPENSIONS INNOVANTES

    Lefficacit et la polyvalence de DS3 R3 doitbeaucoup la qualit de ses trains roulants. lavant , le berceau dorigine estrenforc et modifi pour recevoir un triangletubulaire spcifique. Les silentblocs dorigine ontt remplacs par des rotules. Issu de la srie, lepivot reoit de nombreuses modifications,notamment destines augmenter la taille duroulement et de la cannelure de transmission.

    Dvelopps en collaboration avec BOS, lesamortisseurs sont fixs en avant de la fuse , cequi permet de bnficier dun dbattementmaximum et dune importante longueur deguidage. Ces amortisseurs tritubes se composentdune jambe de force McPherson en aluminiumlubrifie par bain dhuile, dun tube intermdiairechrom et de llment amortissant en aluminium. Ilssont rglables selon trois voies (compressionhaute et basse vitesse, dtente). La bute hydrauliqueest galement ajustable. Enfin, ces amortisseursdisposent dun systme brevet de dtente

    rapide: lors dun saut ou du passage dans une cordeprofonde, la roue colle instantanment la routepour utiliser toute la course lors de la compression.La direction assiste hydrauliquefait appel unecrmaillre issue de la srie modifie, choisie pourson diamtre de barreau et sa dmultiplication. Lapompe est entraine par la courroie accessoires.

    larrire , lessieu dformable en H estrenforc et modifi pour permettre de dposerfacilement la barre antiroulis . Les moyeux deroues arrire dmontables permettent de rglerindpendamment et rapidement le carrossageet la pince. Les combins ressort-amortisseursbnficient des mmes technologies qu lavant.Tous les ressorts de la gamme ayant une longueursous charge identique, leur remplacement nimpose

    pas un rglage de la hauteur de caisse.

    Afin dadapter le comportement tousles styles de pilotage, le carrossage, la pince(AV+AR), la largeur de voie et la chasse (AV) peuventtre ajusts.

    Le systme de freinage est quip dun doublematre cylindre. La rpartition entre lavant et larrireseffectue via un rglage du pdalier, avec rappel desvaleurs au tableau de bord. A lavant les disques sontpincs par des triers Alcon quadruple piston ,utiliss aussi bien avec les disques asphalte (330x30

    mm) que les disques terre (300x30 mm). A larrire,les triers double piston pincent des disques de300x8 mm.

    Dveloppes pour DS3 R3, Les jantes monoblocsde 17 (asphalte) et 15 (terre) sont au poidsminimum impos par le rglement.

    INNOVATIVESUSPENSION

    The efficiency and the multi-purpose aspect

    of the DS3 R3 owe much to the quality of its

    running gear. At the front the sub-frame

    is reinforced and modified to accept a specific

    tubular wishbone. The original silent blocs have

    been replaced by series production joints. The

    torsion bar has been heavily modified to

    increase the size of the joint and the transmission

    groove.

    The dampers developed in collaboration with BOS

    are mounted in front of the stub axles , and this

    provides maximum travel and considerable

    guidance length. These tritube dampers consist

    of an aluminium McPherson strut lubricated by

    an oil bath, an intermediary chrome tube and the

    damper in aluminium. They can be adjusted in

    three ways (high compression, low speed and

    rebound). The hydraulic stop is also adjustable.

    These dampers have a patented rapid rebound

    system.When going over a jump or in a deep rut

    the wheel is literally glued to the road to use the

    whole travel during the compression phase. Thepower-assisted hydraulic st eeringuses a series

    production rack and pinion systemchosen for the

    diameter of its bar and its ratios. The pump is driven

    by the accessories belt.

    At the rear the H-shaped deformable axle has

    been beefed up and modified so that the anti-

    roll bar can be easily removed. The detachable

    rear hub carriers allow the camber and toe-in to

    be adjusted. The spring/damper units have the

    same technology as at the front. All the springs in

    the range have an identical load under pressure, so

    replacing them does not require readjustment of

    the ride height clearance.

    To adapt the handling to all kinds of driving

    styles the camber, the toe-in (front/rear) the width

    of the track and the chassis (front) can all be adjusted.

    The braking systemhas a double master cylinder.

    The balance between the front and rear is achieved

    by adjusting the pedal box with a reminder of the

    figures on the dashboard. At the front the discs are

    clipped by 4-piston Alcon calipers identical to the

    asphalt discs (330x30 mm) and gravel (330x30

    mm). At the rear the double-piston calipers clip

    300x8 mm discs.

    The one-piece rims (17 inches for asphalt and

    15 inches for gravel) developed for the DS3 R3

    are down to the minimum weight imposed by the

    regulations.

    AU COUPLE PHNOMNAL !

    Pour la premire fois de son histoire, CitronRacing propose un moteur turbo sur un produitcomptition-client. Son dveloppement a t facilitpar lexprience acquise par la marque en WRCdepuis plus de 10 ans. Le moteur 1.6 THP (turbohaute pression) est troitement driv du bloc de srieEP6 CDT. Dot dune bride de turbo rglementaire de

    29 mm

    , il dlivre une puissance de 210 ch. etun couple de 350 N.m (carburant commercial 98SP). Le moteur de DS3 R3 est livr mont, rodet test sur banc.

    Conformment la rglementation, de nombreusespices sont issues ou drives de la srie :vilebrequin, culasse, soupapes, turbo, botier papillon,injecteurs, pompes dinjection, collecteurs dadmissionet dchappement Le filtre air , les arbres cames, les pistons, les bielles et le volant moteur sonten revanche spcifiques la comptition.

    Sous le capot, le positionnement des diffrentsorganes a t conu pour optimiser lerendement thermique et faciliter lassistance encourse. Aliment en air frais par une cope placederrire la calandre, lchangeur est situ au dessusdu radiateur. Trs accessible, le turbo peut trefacilement dpos. Son positionnement permet

    de faire passer la ligne dchappement

    au dessusde la bote de vitesses, et non plus sous le moteur.Le carter infrieur a ainsi t redessin pour abaisserle niveau dhuile et ajouter un cloisonnement vitantles djaugeages. Le circuit deau a t simplifi ensupprimant le calorstat pilot. Certaines durites et levase dexpansion sont mcano-souds.

    Le calculateur moteur de DS3 R3 intgre un systmedacquisition de donnes de 8 Mo disposant dedeux modes : spciales et liaisons. Une extension demmoire de 64 Mo avec logiciel dexploitation Wintaxest propose en option.

    For the first time in its history Citron offersa turbo engine on a client-competition car.Its development was made all the easier by

    the experience acquired in the WRC over

    ten years. The 1.6 THP (high pressure turbo)

    engine is closely derived from the EP6 CDT series

    production version. It has an obligatory 29 mm air

    restrictor , puts out 210 bhpand delivers 35MN torque (98 SP commercial fuel). The DS3

    R3 engine is delivered assembled, run in

    and tested on the test bed.

    In keeping with the regulations, numerous parts

    are from, or derived from, series production:

    crankshaft, cylinder head, valves, turbo, throttle

    slides, injectors, injection pumps, inlet and

    exhaust manifolds. The air filter , the camshafts,

    pistons and connecting rods and the flywheel are

    specifi cally desi gned for competiti on.

    Under the bonnet the positioning of the different

    components has been designed to optimize

    the heat efficiency and make race maintenance

    easier. Cool air is fed to the exchanger located above

    the radiator through an air intake behind the grill. The

    turbois easily accessible and can be removed

    without problems. Its position enables the exhaust

    to be routed over the gearbox and not under theengine. The sump has been designed to lower the level

    of oil, and includes compartmentalization to prevent

    oil surge. The water circuit has been simplified by

    getting rid of the thermostat. Certain lines and the

    expansion tank are welded.

    The DS3 R3 engine computer has a data acquisition

    systemof 8 Mo with two modes: stages and liaisons. A

    64 Mo memory programme extension with the Wintax

    programme that runs it is available as an option.

    UNE GRANDE PREMIRE AVEC

    LA COMMANDE DE BOTE PILOTE

    Une des innovations majeures de DS3 R3 se

    situe au niveau de la bote de vitesses. Pourla premire fois, un produit comptition-clientrallye est quip dune commande pilote, quipermet de rduire de moiti le temps de passagedes rapports et daugmenter la fiabilit, puisquela gestion lectronique nautorise un changementde rapport que si les paramtres du moteur lepermettent. L encore, lexpertise de Citron Racingen WRC a permis lexploitation de cette technologiede pointe.

    La bote de vitesses six rapports crabotsa t spcifiquement conue pour DS3 R3.

    Le carter recevant lembrayage bi-disque est enfonderie daluminium, tandis que la cassette abritantla pignonnerie est taille dans la masse. Situ danslaxe de la voiture, le dif frentiel autobloquant type ZFpermet dutiliser des barreaux de transmissionidentiques droite et gauche. Leur longueurautorise en outre de grands dbattements.

    La commande pilote lectro-hydraulique

    est conue partir dorganes de srie

    (lectrovannes, actionneurs, groupe de pression).Le bloc hydraulique commande galementlembrayage, actionn automatiquement chaque changement de rapport en raison ducouple moteur. La bote de vitesses est refroidie parun changeur eau/huile.

    Dans lhabitacle, la palette de changement derapport est situe proximit immdiatedu volant. Elle reprend lergonomie de C4WRC: le pilote donne une impulsion vers larrirepour monter les rapports et une impulsion vers

    lavant pour les descendre. L encore, lutilisation decapteurs de srie permet dassocier matrise descots et longvit. La fiabilit de ce systme apermis dviter le montage dune commandetraditionnelle de secours. Surleve, la pdaledembrayage subsiste, mais elle nest utilise quepour les dparts.

    A FIRST WITH

    SEMI-AUTOMATIC GEAR CHANGE

    O

    ne of the major innovations of the DS3 R3 is Its

    gearbox. For the first time a competitionclient rally car is fitted with a semi-automatic

    shift, which cuts gear changing time by half and

    increases reliability as the electronic management

    system only allows a gear change when the engine

    parameters okay it. Here again, Citron Racings

    expertise in the WRC has allowed the use of this

    cutting edge technology.

    The six-speed dog gearbox has been specially

    designed for the DS3 R3.The casing housing the

    twin disc clutch is in forged aluminium while the

    gear cluster housing is made from solid aluminium.

    The ZF self-locking differential is located in theaxis of the car, so identical transmission bars can

    be used on both right and left-hand sides. Their

    length allows long travel.

    The electro-hydraulic semi-automatic drive is

    designed from series production components(solenoid valve, actuators, pressure pack etc). The

    hydraulic block also controls the clutch, which is

    triggered automatically at each gear change

    by the engine torque. The gearbox is cooled by a

    water/oil exchanger.

    In the cockpit, the gear change paddle is

    located beside the steering wheel. It uses the

    ergonomics of the C4 WRC. The driver flicks it

    back to change up and pushes it forward to change

    down. There too, the use of series product ion sensors

    helps master costs and increase longevity. The

    reliability of this system has done away withthe need to have a traditional back-up gear

    change system.The clutch pedal is still there

    but for starts only.

    Cette fiabilit saccompagne dune facilitdexploitation, imagine ds la conception parle bureau dtudes. Par exemple, le protge-cartermoteur et les roues se dmontent avec la mme cl.

    Les mcaniciens apprcieront galement de

    pouvoir changer lalternateur par le passage roue,ou de pouvoir remplacer la bote de vitessessans mme dposer le berceau moteur. DS3R3 dispose dun kit doutillage destin aumontage et lexploitation : mesure de prchargedu diffrentiel, cl de purge des triers de freins

    Llectronique embarque a fait lobjet dun soin toutparticulier, avec une powerboxgrant toutela puissance lectrique de la voiture. Plac danslhabitacle sur le tunnel central, ce botier lectroniqueremplace les fusibles traditionnels et diagnostiquelensemble des organes et capteurs. En casde recherche de panne, les messages derreur sontdirectement affichs sur lcran digital.

    Situ sur la planche de bord, cet cranpropose sixpages pour le pilote et huit pour les mcaniciens. Trsdidactiques, les messages permettent dexploiter lavoiture au maximum de son potentiel sans avoir

    systmatiquement besoin dun ordinateur.

    MASTERING RUNNING COSTS

    OUR PRIORITY

    C

    itron Racing validated the reliability of the DS3

    R3 on all types of terrain for all kinds of driving

    styles by covering over 10 000 kilometers

    in development testing, plus a 7-rally

    programmeat the end of the 2010 season.

    This reliability is accompanied by easy

    maintenance, which was one of the design groups

    priorities at the conception stage. For example, the

    sump guard and wheels can be removed with the

    same wrench.

    The mechanics can change the alternator through

    the wheel arch, and replace the gearbox without

    taking off the engine sub frame. The DS3 R3 issupplied with a tool kitfor assembly and running,

    a precharge measure for the differential, wrench for

    purging the brakes etc.

    Particular attention has been paid to the on-board

    electronics with a power box managing the

    electric power of the car. This electronic device

    is mounted in the cockpit on the central tunnel; it

    replaces the usual fuses and diagnoses all the

    organs and sensors.Should it be necessary to track

    the reason for a breakdown, messages of error are

    shown directly on the digital screen.

    This screen on the dashboard has six pages for

    the driver and eight for the mechanics. Thanks to very

    concise, informative messages the car can be run

    at its maximum potentialwithout the systematic

    need for a computer.

    All the setups are supplied by Citron Racing,

    which also offers technical backup to personalize

    setups according to the events and driving styles.
