Fresh graduates, undergraduates, post-graduates (preferably from journalism schools) can apply for the internship. Literature graduates and undergraduates with flair for writing can also apply.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Interns will be selected on the basis of their writing samples sent and subsequent personal interviews.

Omar inaugurates Sher-i- Kashmir T20 tourney

Road race held at HarwanHarwan, May 9: To ensure presentation of manuscripts of ancient times, a campaign was launched from histori-cally important Harichan-dra Harwan here today. In that connection road race from Harwan to Burza-hama was also conducted on the occasion. The pro-gramme was organized by the Idhra Zahoor-ul-Islam Darbagh in collaboration with Teachers Forum of Nishat Zone. Later, prizes were distrib-uted by Peer BilaL Ahmad among the educational insti-tutions for their performance during the function. Students of Government High School, New Theed bagged first position while as students of Government Middle School, Mulphak and students of Government Middle School, Danihama secured second and third positions respectively.

SCC Ahmad Nagar beat Bara Syed-XI

Srinagar, May 9: In the ongo-ing second Vice-Chancellor’s T20 cricket tournament Syed Cricket Club (SCC) defeated Bara Syed-XI Taibal by seven wickets at Kashmir Universi-ty ground here on Thursday. Batting first Bara Syed scored 125 runs for the loss of nine wickets in allotted overs. Gulzar with 22, Abid with 18 were highest scorers for them while as Aijaz Ahmad and Saleem took

three wickets each for SCC. In reply SCC, achieved required target for the loss of three wickets. Imtiyaz with 37, Riyaz with 24 runs and Abid with 22 runs were highest scor-ers for them while as Sahakeel, Bilal and Showkat took one wicket each for Bara Syed. Assistant Registrar DSW, PRO Kashmir Univer-sity Showkat Shafi was chief guest on the occasion.

Srinagar, May 9: Talented all-rounder Parvez Rasool on Thursday became first crick-eter from Jammu and Kashmir to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after making debut in the match against Kolkatta Knight Riders (KKR) at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune for his side Pune Warriors. KKR skipper Gambhir won the toss and elected to bat first against the home side. KRR while making two changes including Ryan ten Doeschate and Manoj Tiwary in the playing eleven. The big news came from the Pune side as that of much awaited debut of Kashmiri star all-rounder Parvez Rasool. He came into side in place of spin-ner Rahul Sharma. As the news about Parvez’s debut got viral, the leading crick-et website Cricinfo was flooded with comments praising Parvez. For Bijbehara lad, it is a dream come true to play in IPL which could be his first step towards inching into the Team India squad. In his dream match today, Parvez took wicket of world’s best all-rounder J H Kallis. In his four over quota, he gave away only 23 runs and took one wicket. The first ever ball bowled by Parvez in IPL was to KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir who watched it carefully. The second delivery was punched by Gamb-hir to boundary as well as third one. The next three deliveries of

his over cost only one run thus giving away nine runs in his debut over. After settling his nerves, Parvez came back strongly in the second over taking wicket living legend Kallis. It was first ever wicket by JK cricketer taken in IPL. After the end of second over, Parvez’s bowling figures read two overs, eleven runs and one wicket, giving away only two runs in second. The next two overs cost him 12 runs. Facebook and other social networking were flooded by

the comments related to debut of Parvez. Greater Kashmir office also got numerous calls from the fans praising his debut. “It is really great to see Parvez making his debut finally. I am delighted for him and hope he plays well and reaches even higher goals,” said one caller Farooq Ahmad Shangloo of Saif Sons. Taking to Greater Kashmir earlier during the day, Parvez was confident and he showed that on the field as well. “It has been hard to see

my team losing 10 matches out of 12 played. Since the begin-ning of this event, I have been practising hard and waiting for my chance. However, I don’t know what is in mind of the team management who are yet to use my services,” Parvez told Greater Kashmir on Phone from Pune. “My focus is on my game as I believe when I get the call I should be prepared to grab that. I am working hard in nets and am also getting useful tips from fellow players like Ajanta Mendis,” he said.

Ganderbal, May 9: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated Sher-i- Kashmir T20 cricket tournament at Qamaria ground, here. In the event, 142 teams representing almost every village of the district are participating. Omar Abdullah inaugurat-ed the event by filliping a coin at the toss and also faced some deliveries bowled by National Conference (NC) Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani. “Losing or winning of a game is immaterial but par-ticipating as worthy sports persons, performing to once best capacity and maintain-ing quality of conduct while playing is counted a lot at the end of the day”, he said addressing the players. The inaugural match was played between Muham-madia Club and Ganderbal Gladiators in which the latter emerged as winner. Batting first Muhammadia Club were bundled out for 126 runs in 19.5 overs. Abdul Hamid with 40 runs was highest scorer for them while as Riyaz contributed with 20 runs.

For Gladiators Tariq and Rashid took three wickets each. In reply Gladiators achieved required target in 19th over. Khurshid with unbeat-en 52 runs was highest scorer for them while as Danish Muzafer scored 38 runs. The tournament which is being

organized by Youth National Confer-ence. Among others present on the occa-sion were Minister for Higher Educa-tion, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi and Chief Ministers Polit-ical Secretary, Tanvir Sadiq.

Agarwal inaugurates BPed course at GanderbalSrinagar, May 9: Direc-tor General, Department of Youth Services and Sports department, Navin Agarwal, IPS on Thursday inaugu-rated BPEd course at Gov-ernment College of Physical Education, Ganderbal. The BPEd training course is being offered by the Government College of Physical Education for the candidates having passed minimum Graduation with sports background. The College has intake capacity of 110 seats and this year 93 candidates have been

selected under direct quota and 17 in-service Physical Education Teachers have been deputed for the said training. The DG DYSS also vis-ited new campus of College which is coming up at Gad-oora at an estimated cost of Rupees 3039.04 lakhs. The work on the project is being executed through Jammu & Kashmir Proj-ects Construction Corpo-ration (JK PCC) and an amount of Rs 1350.00 lakhs has so far been released in favour of the Executing

Agency. The new campus has a Stadium, constructed for physical activities of the trainees. Agarwal also expressed concern over poor main-tenance of the Madri-Me-
