Inspired by technology used in the aerospace industry, Durinox is a unique material innovation that uses a process known as “shot peening” to produce a highly resilient stainless steel surface that is twice as hard as traditional stainless steel. This hardening process results in a velvety-matte surface with a uniform, homogeneous structure.

Durinox possesses the highest level of density for pure uncoated stainless steel and is highly resistant to scratches and fingerprints in comparison to conventional stainless steel surfaces. The PRECISION apron front is the first sink model in the BLANCO portfolio to be offered with this exclusive, patented Durinox surface technology.

The DurinoxTM production process

Shot peening is a hardening process which entails using millions of tiny stainless steel balls to impact both sides of a sheet of stainless steel at a speed of 300 km/hr. This surface treatment is followed by an extremely precise restoration process that returns the stainless steel sheet back to a level state, resulting in a resilient surface that is twice as hard as traditional stainless steel.

If replacing an existing sink, there will be limitations based on the existing sink cutout and cabinet space on what can be selected. The ideal time to select a sink is before the start of any kitchen renovation—before layout design, counter or cabinet selection. Designers often place the sink first and design the rest of the kitchen layout from there. This ensures that the completed kitchen has the optimal workstation and functionality—with enough room and the right sink and faucet to suit your needs. As faucets are increasingly becoming one of the key design elements in the kitchen, this pre-planning will ensure that there are plenty of options for selecting a faucet that will fit and suit the layout.

When replacing a sink, the sink choice is restricted by the size of the cabinet and countertop. You can either choose a sink that fits the existing sink cutout or if your sink base cabinet allows, expand the cutout by cutting away additional countertop material and select a larger sink.

Measuring correctly will help save time. Measure the cabinet size under the existing sink or where the new sink will go. Measure from gable to gable (left to right) See Diagram A. Be sure to measure from outside an edge to an outside edge. This is the ‘Minimum Cabinet Size’, and this size is noted next to each sink model in the BLANCO catalogue. Most kitchen cabinets are standard 24” measurement front to back. The width (front to back measurement) of the sink that can be used is determined by this measurement and whether or not the counter top has a backsplash. See diagrams B and C.

For Drop-in: If the countertop has a backsplash, a sink with front to back depth of up to 20½” will fit. See Diagram B. If the countertop has no backsplash and the cabinet is of standard size, a sink that measures up to 22” deep (front to back) will fit. See Diagram C.

For Undermount: Consult your installer. These measurements are important to ensure that enough space is allocated for fixtures and backsplash material behind the sink.

Rear-positioned drains maximize usable cabinet space under the sink. A flat sink bottom allows glassware and goblets to stand up preventing accidental breakage. And, deeper bowls combined with tight radius corners, allow large pots and even frying pans to sit flat in the sink, making cleanup easier.

The broad range of BLANCO sink bowl choices within any one design allows you to select a perfectly matching secondary sink for use in an island. These choices include a wide range of double bowl options and small and large single bowl designs. For many kitchens, a large single bowl may be ideal as a primary sink, particularly when most small items are washed in the dishwasher, and the sink is used primarily for large pots, cookie sheets and pans.

The best time to select a sink and faucet


Choice of material

Undermounted sinks bring a touch of refinement to any kitchen. A pleasure to own, especially at clean-up time, their design allows crumbs to be easily swept into the bowl. Truly a clean design. Three undermount reveal options are possible depending on individual preference. These options apply to both stainless steel undermounts and SILGRANIT®. Note that BLANCO templates for most undermount sinks provide a ¼ inch reveal around the bowl (i.e. only ¼ inch of the sink rim is revealed). Check the instructions on the template that comes with your BLANCO sink to see the reveal measurement allotted by that template. Sink templates are supplied only as a guide. The physical use of the sink will ensure a more accurate cutout.

Finally, ensure that enough space is left behind the sink for any fixtures that may be required—including faucet and other accessories.

In choosing the material you should keep in mind that the kitchen sink is a heavy-duty utensil. It will show signs of wear after time but should be able to withstand the rigors of daily use for a very long time. Different materials will wear in different ways. BLANCO uses only premium materials and offers a lifetime limited warranty on all its kitchen sinks, regardless of the material. Accessories such as sink grids are ideal to protect the bottom surface of the sink. Owners should observe care instructions and use only recommended cleaning products.

Stainless Steel Stainless steel continues to be the most common material for kitchen sinks, but not all stainless steel sinks are created equal. Chrome-nickel content is an important consideration. Chrome increases hardness and wear resistance. Nickel increases strength and improves shock resistance. Most BLANCO sinks are 18% chrome and 10% nickel (18/10), which is the preferred content for high-end stainless steel sinks. 18/10 stainless steel is completely hygienic, will not rust and will maintain its appearance much longer than lesser grade steel.

The gauge (thickness) of the steel is also an important feature. Note: Gauge is an inverse measurement—20 gauge is thinner than 18 gauge. A thicker gauge stainless steel sink will maintain water temperature longer and has more sound deadening qualities. Thicker gauge stainless steel sinks are in general more expensive. The optimal gauge is 18.

SILGRANIT® There are a wide range of coloured sinks available today, however not all share the heat and scratch resistance of SILGRANIT®. There are also both soft composites and hard composites available. These come in a variety of finishes, some having only surface colour and some coloured all the way through. Many soft composites have a dull finish. These soft composites are usually more porous and have a low heat rating (a hot pot could burn the surface). Soft composites are usually less expensive but also tend to show signs of wear soon after being installed. BLANCO SILGRANIT® is a rock-hard composite material, formed using naturals granite (up to 80%). Coloured all the way through, SILGRANIT® is extremely scratch and chip resistant and has a heat rating of up to 280° Celsius.

Most BLANCO SILGRANIT® sinks are equipped with additional knock-out holes for faucet fixtures and accessories. These holes are marked on the sink deck with removable stickers and must be punched prior to installing the sink.

BLANCO faucets finishes Exclusive to BLANCO, our kitchen faucets are available not only in chrome and stainless variation but also in SILGRANIT® colour-coordinating finishes. Our metal- look finishes include Chrome with its shiny properties, Stainless Finish (PVD) with its slightly softer variation of stainless look, Classic Steel that provides the rich finish of stainless beauty. and Stainless Steel, a gently brushed steel with a matte finish. Partial reveal of the sink rim:The amount of reveal is flexible—more or less depending on the look that is desired! Deciding on your preferred look must be done prior to cutout of countertop.

Limited Lifetime Warranty: Stainless Steel and SILGRANIT® Sinks BLANCO CANADA INC. hereafter referred to as BLANCO, is pleased to offer a Limited Lifetime Warranty with all BLANCO sinks used in normal domestic installations. BLANCO warrants its sinks to be free from all manufacturing defects in material and workmanship.

BLANCO will repair or replace, at no charge, excluding labour, any sink supplied by BLANCO that is proven to be defective under normal use. An equivalent replacement will be issued to the original owner provided the defective sink was installed in accordance with BLANCO installation procedures, used and cleaned as recommended and not damaged due to abuse, misuse or negligence. Chips, scratches and stains are not deemed to be manufacturing defects. BLANCO will not be held liable for chips, scratches and stains that can occur under normal use over a period of time. Please refer to cleaning instructions to maintain your sink in its original appearance. BLANCO shall not be held liable under this warranty where the sink has been used in a non-domestic application, improperly installed, or damaged from the impact caused by a heavy object being dropped on the sink or from improper handling. BLANCO shall not be liable for any inconvenience or expense for material or labour related to the removal or replacement of a defective sink or for any loss or damage to any person or property whatsoever resulting from the defective sink. All transportation costs to and from the point of purchase will be the responsibility of the purchaser.

Any sink returned must be in the original packaging and include all the accompanying accessories, parts and documentation. BLANCO reserves the right to inspect any sink reported to be defective prior to replacement of the sink.

WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS Excluded are any accessories that accompany the sink (strainers, waste fittings, waste chutes etc.).

Accessories and Soap Dispensers BLANCO warrants its accessories and soap dispensers to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase.

Limited Lifetime Warranty: Faucets All faucets are thoroughly checked and tested in the factory. However, if the faucet has a manufacturing defect, BLANCO reserves the right to replace the damaged part or the entire faucet.

BLANCO warrants its faucets to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship; and the finish and ceramic disk cartridge to be free from manufacturing defects and workmanship, to the original consumer purchaser of the faucet from the original date of purchase for as long as the original consumer purchaser owns their home. If the cartridge proves to be defective during the warranty period, BLANCO will provide a replacement free of charge.

A new enhanced warranty program for faucets took effect April 15, 2010. (This is not retroactive to previously purchased faucets). It extends the previous 2-year limited period for mechanical components, hand spray and hoses to a Limited Lifetime Warranty period. (As before, the finish and ceramic disc cartridge have limited lifetime warranties).

This warranty does not cover faucets which have been improperly installed or subject to improper use or used in a location other than a residential kitchen or faucets which have been damaged due to mineral deposits or the
