    Building on the success of the first edition of Tapis Rouge Frans Filmfestival in 2019, we are pleased to announce that Tapis Rouge will be back this year and will take place from Thursday 5th until Tuesday 10th November 2020 !Dedicated to all film-lovers in the Netherlands, this festival has been designed to present the best newly released French films. This year, the Tapis Rouge program comprises 18 films, including 3 films for a younger audience. With a broad spectrum of the most recent French language cinema, from popular movies to cutting-edge productions, Tapis Rouge 2020 will have several special events : sessions and encounters with film-makers and actors, this year via Zoom, due to COVID restrictions, and screenings for schools.

    COVIDTAPIS ROUGE IS COMMITTED TO PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF COVID IN THE THEATERS.

    Pathé Tuschinski and FilmHallen both have a one-way entrance and exit, and a maximum of 30 seats will be available in cinemas which will be spread out to ensure that viewers can keep a safe distance. Masks are compulsory in the theater foyers. For those who prefer to enjoy watching films in the comfort of their homes, several films of the Tapis Rouge program will be on Vitamine Cineville.

  • Synopsis: Gaby, a young boy, with a Rwandan Mother and a French father, lives in Burundi in the 90’s. His parents are about to be separated and Gaby lives with his father and younger sister. He grows up there and spends a joyful boyhood with his inseparable crew of friends goofing around before civil war and the massacre of Tutsis by Hutus brutally destroy Gaby’s childhood innocence…

    Synopsis: Suze, 43, learns that she has contracted a fatal sickness. Having nothing to lose, she drops everything to march on the quest for the child she had to abandon at birth when she was only 15. In the course of her fruitless bureaucratic journey she encounters two extraordinary characters: JB, a suicidal civil servant recently dismissed, and Mr Blin, an over enthusiastic blind archivist.

    Synopsis: Lea, a usually shy and retiring person, writes and publishes a best-selling novel. It provokes turmoil in her couple and destroys a longtime friendship. Marc, her macho husband, is intimidated by his newly successful wife. Carine, let her jealousy burst out. Different social dynamics emerge, and friendships are under threat.

    Opening Night will take place in the main room of Pathé Tuschinski with the Netherlands premiere Adieu les cons, a film by and with Albert Dupontel.

    Chazia Mourali, the ambassador of Tapis Rouge 2020, will be the host for the Opening Night. She will interview Maxime Rovère, a reknown French philosopher and author of " Que faire des cons ? ". The interview is about " What is a con? " a French concept to dig up.

    Major novelty for this new edition, "Le Prix Tapis Rouge", a prize for the best adaptation into film of a novel in the French language.

    Members of the jury are Dutch and French personalities from the cinema and literary world among whom, Pierre Assouline, a famous writer and member of the Académie Goncourt or Michel Crépu, the editor in chief of the prestigious "La Nouvelle Revue Française".

    The evening will begin with a presentation of the selected films & books by Chazia Mourali, Pierre-Pascal Bruneau and Abdelkader Benali (Prize winning writer). The award-winning movie will be screened after the ceremony.

This is the beginning of a series of adventures.

    Tapis Rouge 2020 edition will end on a high note with the screening of a film which is already a major buzz; The voice of love, Celine Dion's life-inspired film.Between fiction and reality, the dramatic comedy directed by Valérie Lemercier who superbly plays the main role will be on screen at FilmHallen.

    The evening will be introduced by Chazia Mourali, following by closing remarks of the edition by Pierre Pascal with Dorine Lebreton, Marc Smit, Arnaud Pereira.

    PRESIDENT OF THE JURYPIERRE ASSOULINE« Quel écrivain mesure vraiment le risque qu’il court en abandonnant son œuvre entre les mains d’un cinéaste qui en fera la sienne ? Le plus souvent, il est conscient du malaise à naître de la dépossession, mais moins des affres de l’appropriation par un autre créateur. Un détournement de but, de sens, d’esprit le menace ; si le livre en question a eu peu de lecteurs, le dommage demeure

    personnel, intime ; dans le cas contraire, le risque est grand qu’il porte préjudice au livre, se superpose au puissant souvenir que le lecteur en avait gardé, le dénature peut-être jusqu’à l’éclipser sinon s’y substituer. Par rapport à de grands romans tels que Le Guépard ou les Mémoires de Barry Lyndon, nous disposons du recul nécessaire pour en juger ; mais Lampedusa et Thackeray

    ne sont plus là pour nous dire s’ils en veulent à Visconti et Kubrick ou si au contraire ils les louent de leur avoir donné un second souffle.»
