Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace.

The soul that knows it not Knows no release from little things :

Knows not the livid loneliness of fear, Nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear the sound of wings.

Nor can life grant us boon of living, compensateFor dull gray ugliness and pregnant hate

Unless we dareThe soul’s dominion.

Each time we make a choice, we payWith courage to behold the resistless day,

And count it fair.

Poem by Amelia Earhart, first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Amelia everywhere and forever

Abbas Ibn Firnas, 880 apr.

P 54/55 - The mythThe first airmen had God-like status. Pan Am pilots were heart breakers. But one of the first men to fly was not so lucky. Accor-ding to Greek mythology, Icarus burnt his wings by flying too close to the sun. Bad luck. Abbas Ibn Firnas, 880 AD, was the first man to take flight. At the age of 70, he designed wooden wings covered in silk and lined with feathers. He jumped off a tower in Cordoba, and even though he fractured two ribs on landing, he managed to glide through the air for a few moments. Around 1500, Leonardo de Vinci did his utmost to invent flying machines inspired by insect and bird flight. He left us his helicop-ter and his flying machine. In 1783, the Montgolfier brothers were the first to hover in flight thanks to their hot air balloon. Clément Ader, self-proclaimed first man to have flown in a motorized airplane. Experience

Beauvais-Tillé airport was built during the 1930s. Improved by the Germans during the war, it was also used by the Allied Forces at the end of the conflict. In 1956, the airport opened to commercial traffic and become the third largest airport in Paris. The Beauvais-Thillé Air Club was created on 6th July 1979 by three enthusiasts. The initial fleet was made up of two airplanes: a Rallye and a Ces-sna 150. Planes

From aerobatics to low visibility flight, it could do anything or almost anything. Impressive size and solid landing gear. The Boeing Stearman A75N1 is an airplane that got notice both in the air and on the ground. Bright colours, yellow and red. It had all the qualities and also all the defects required to train the best pilots.

At the end of the war, thousands of airplanes were sold to the civil aviation market. This one flew to Latin America. It ended up in Nicaragua during the fifties and sixties. Riddled with bullet holes, it is said to have been used for guerrilla warfare. Back in Europe, it was reduced to a shadow of its former self. From 1992 to 1995, it was totally rebuilt by Philippe Ciepiela, an aviation enthusiast. It has now been restored to its former glory. Stampe sv4c

Renault 4P 100 -140hp engineWingspan: 8.38 m / Length: 6.81 mMaximum speed: 230 km/hA small bi-plane created at the end of the thirties in Belgium by Messrs Stampe & Vertogen. It was then built in France in Sartrou-ville or in the AIA workshops. Equipped with a Renault engine, it has natural elegance and is perfect for aerobatics. At the end of World War II, a new generation of pilots needed to be trained. De Gaulle ordered the construction of 1000 Stampe. For over twenty years, nearly every French pilot was trained to fly on this bi-plane.She did

Before 1914, no less than forty women obtained their pilot’s li-cense in the world. Ann Davidson, first woman to complete a solo trans-Atlantic flight. Hélène Boucher and Madeleine Charnaux, to mention just a couple, turned up one by one in the Renault Caudron offices and convinced the men to make aviators out of them, by letting them use the Caudron airplanes. Bessie Coleman (US), Tadashi Hyodo (Japan), Park Kyung-Won and Kwon Ki-Ok (Korea). Next, Egypt presented their first woman pilot to the world: Lotfia Al-Nadi.Young eagles, Jean Arthur (1930)Les bleus du ciel, Blanche Montei (1933) The Blue Max, Ursula Andress (1966 )Les chevaliers du ciel, Alice Taglioni (2005)
