Africa will be Digital at core!

Havas Africa was launched in 2010 with the ongoing support of Bol-loré Africa Logistics. As the only internationally-owned network in Africa, Havas Africa has developed a unique range of solutions for clients (Emirates, Canal+, Vlisco, Accor, Bank of Africa…) and 200 lo-cal advertisers. Today, our network is made up of 12 agencies in Sene-gal, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, South Africa and, more recently, Nigeria and Guinea-Conakry. We also have a network of partners that allows us to cover 90 % of the continent. We are alone amongst our competitors in being able to offer this kind of structure in Africa.
Today, there are 250 people on the ground and 20 in Paris, 100 % dedi-cated to the continent, with the contributions of Havas Media, A -perf, Socialyse, HSE and Havas WW.
Havas Africa has its own unique market watch and monitoring tool for markets that are predominantly informal. Insight Africa allows us to analyse media strategies and investments in Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Burkina Faso and, coming soon, Gabon and the DRC.
DIGITAL IN AFRICA, A UNIQUE CASE ! In just a few short years, Africa has become a new digital territory to be conquered. Africa has by-passed the inter-net and landline stage and is now showing a considerable appetite for mobile communications, which are easier to access and less ex-pensive (with a coverage >65%). Mobile phone users increased very quickly from 16 million to over 750

Many of the applications that have been developed are aimed at satis-fying concret and daily needs. My Pocket Heathline allows users to consult with a doctor by mobile phone; M-Farm allows farmers to check market prices via SMS in al-most real time; while M-pesa allows people to pay for goods and services via their mobile phones (electricity bills, school fees, taxis, etc.). 2013.

Summer and TV viewing
On hot days with temperatures around 25 °C, reach tends to drop by an ave-rage of 6 %. Of course this assumes there is no special event on television or it is not a particular holiday, etc. And if the sun shines for ten hours, reach falls by another 3 %. We now need to ask how much the weather infl uences our viewing habits later in the evening at the end of a sunny day.
What happens to the usual high reach during prime time? To fi nd out, we looked at evening viewing habits for the whole of 2013. Not surprisingly, the highest number of viewers were reached at 8.15 pm and they watched TV for longer than those who were watching at 10.15 pm. However, a closer analysis reveals
that there are di erences between individual days. During the week, people often have work and other commitments that prevent them from watching TV late at night. This means there is a marked di erence in net reach between 10.15 pm and 8.15 pm from Monday to Thursday. But it is very di erent on saturdays, when almost the same number of people watch TV at the two times.
What about the summer months? Does reach increase relatively at 10.15 pm? And are there days when there are actually more people watching TV at 10.15 pm than at 8.15 pm?That is certainly the case on Saturdays in summer. Reach tends to be higher at 10.15 pm than two hours earlier.
Temperature and sunshine hours both have an infl uence on TV viewing habits. This is particularly noticeable on Saturdays. On hot, sun-ny days we tend to turn the TV on later in the evening.
It's hot, the sun is shining and the evenings are long. We're spending more time outside enjoying the weather. It's summer! But how much does the weather really a ect people's viewing habits?

« Austrian Sports Radar »
Havas Media Austria’s CEO Michael Göls – together with the biggest Austrian sport publisher Styria Multimedia wanted to explore the “phenomenon sport”. New research instruments to scrutinize sport-media behavior and sport manners of Austrian citizens had to be established. The Austrian Sports Radar was born – Austria's biggest poll and “insight ma-chine” concerning sports in all its facets. The radar is online research-platform which Havas Media developed and pro-grammed www.austrian-sports-radar.at
We ask active sportsmen and wo-men, who are practicing sport more than at least 45 minutes per week. This was the best way to obtain top-insights about their characteristics, motives and emotional drivers, and their media consumption behaviors.Austrian Sports Radar I: the fi rst
radar asked for a clear di erentiation between “sport” and “leisure activity”; it clarifi ed who actively is doing which kind of sport, “how often/long/regu-larly”, “alone or in a group” and a lot of other questions. We can tell clients now exactly which sport is seen on which online platform / TV channel / print media. Also the meaning of Social Media and Mobile, concer-ning sports, was scrutinized. To be an interesting conversational partner for sports brands, retail and industry we also ascertain all attitudinal facts about the top brands relating to this.
Austrian Sports Radar II: we de-cided to go for a second round with a new partner, the “Austrian Road Safety Board”. This Board is the only Austrian organization that collects all data about sports accidents. We
identifi ed the most dangerous kind of sports (skiing, football and bi-king) and examined the reasons how this could happen. We know now the risk for unsporting people - and also for the athletically trained ones. We will go on to investigate all fa-cets of sports, we keep you posted!

The CEO of a China-based health care provider has dubbed the country’s public hospitals as "health care factories" that have not kept pace with the explosive growth China’s middle class. In Shanghai patients queue for hours in crowded state hospital lobbies as they wait for medical staff’s atten-tion. China’s medical services are clearly struggling to cope with the country’s runaway urban growth. In 2009, Philips Healthcare decided to do its part to address this issue, and in doing so scored a phenomenal public relations victory that won them the support of local govern-ment and consumers alike. That makes it a good case study on how to use corporate social responsi-bility (CSR) to build a meaningful brand in China.
According to the Havas Media 2013 Meaningful Brands study 72 percent of Chinese respondents agreed with the statement: "compa-

nies and brands should play a role in improving our quality of life and well- being."
Philips knew that the government had a huge stake in improving public health. Tethered by its pro-position - ‘Sense and Simplicity,’ the brand created a sensible and simple communications platform called Create Time. Working in partnership with the local govern-ment Philips installed an electro-nic terminal in 5 hospitals that al-lowed patients to track their place in the queue and freed them from the need to standing for hours for their turn without actually missing their appointment. A total of 10 hospitals in Shanghai eventually installed this system. It helped reduce over-crowding and impro-ved patient flow. Philips Health-

care also rolled out a TV campaign extolling the benefits of visiting community clinics. The objective of the campaign was to help reduce hospital overcrowding and there-fore in alignment with government policy. The television commercial demonstrated that consumers could save time by visiting the newly refurbished clinics instead of converging at the large public hospitals for minor ailments.
Philips Healthcare made the ob-vious choice of prioritising China’s health care system, a government priority that’s also a pressing issue for the consumer. So the message is clear. Choose a focus for your CSR and commit fully to it, integrating it into your broader communica-tions plan. Today, healthcare is Philips’ most profitable division in China. The credit goes to a great PR strategy that matched its CSR initiative to its brand promise. Your CSR program must therefore not be separate from your brand story. Un-derstand what consumers expect.
Understand what product or ser-vice you delivering. Establish what role you’re going to play in impro-ving their lives.
What Philips Healthcare under-stood was that CSR activities should go beyond matching go-vernment priorities to finding resonance with the consumer. It
needs to be practical and socially relevant. Digital amplifies this resonance. David Jones in his book, Who Cares Wins says, "If a brand is sufficiently compel-ling, engaging and motivating to consumers those consumers will become proactive consumers and act as influential advocates for that brand."

the new smart ») a été délivré à 50 % des consommateurs

Smart Ads ON MOBILE PHONES
LG’s new top-phone G3 was launched recently under the payoff “Simple is the new smart”. In the Nordics, the launch campaign used OOH and Digital including social media, Spotify integrations, video, desktop banners, SEM and not least mobile display. The briefing made it clear, that LG G3 came with impressive specifi-cations that in many ways outper-formed competitors. But to make it simple for consumers, we really wanted them to look at different specs depending on which phone they currently had; For example we wanted IPhone users to get im-pressed by the battery lifetime and we wanted Samsung Galaxy users to notice the excellent new screen on G3. We wanted to deliver similar

specific messages to Sony Xperia and HTC owners. Not an easy task for most media, but it could be done with mobile dis-play. Therefore, we allocated a large part of the budget to a mobile dis-play campaign where we could use technology to “sni ” which device (brand and model) each user had and then served a creative that hi-ghlighted the key spec for that indi-vidual consumer. To get a benchmark the generic creative (“Simple is the new smart”) was served to 50 % of the inventory and the remaining 50 % was served a device specifi c creative for the mo-bile device they were using. LG has been delighted with the campaign and the results de-monstrates that the approach has
worked well. Using the device specific creative in-creased the CTR with impressive 145 % as demonstrated in the figure below.

of children between the ages of 4 and 14 regularly go online
83%
Kids and technologyA recent study conducted by experts (PAC research institute) on children and teens, and endorsed by various advertisers, technology manufac-turers and agencies, puts numbers onto this reality. Here goes: 83 % of Spanish children between the ages of 4 and 14 regularly go online, although it was noted that for the youngest amongst them (ages 4 and 5), this fi gure stands at 67 %. But take it a step further and we see that 57 % of kids already use a smartphone on a regular basis and 39 % use a tablet, rising to 70 % and 40 % respectively for 12 to 14 year olds! Another phe-nomenon on the rise is that of mul-titasking or multiscreening: 43 % of children already play with another “second” screen whilst watching TV. So what is all of this digital connecti-vity used for? For leisure and games (59 %), to watch videos (55 %), to look up information (53 %), listen
to music (37 %) and log onto social networks (28 %) : these are the main activities.
This evolution of people with tech-nology now affects relationships between parents and children (only 56 % ask for permission be-fore going online), their social and group assimilation (“How many friends do you have?”), the forma-tion of their personalities (“What’s your avatar?”), their power of com-munication and interactivity (“Who follows you on Twitter?”), through to their learning capacity, access to information and connectivity with the planet’s reality, now more than ever. I do not know if we fully realise what those little “selves” will look like in the near future. What now serves to train, educate, influence, communicate, amuse, entertain or sell, will not serve the
same purpose in the future. A future that will be for them and will depend on them, one that is now being forged, for example, by the access to technology and the use that children make of it or that we allow them to have.
“Teo, my 5 years old son, already sends me WhatsApp messages to say goodnight when I am on the road. Later, he goes to bed tired and worn out from his day. I’m sure he and his friends also played with sticks and stones at school”.

À Miami, Data and Analytics a saisi l’occasion.

MARKETHow we market programmatic is just as important as what we are marketing. Data-centric is the positioning we are currently taking and that is fi ne, but what does it really mean to the client when we say programmatic? More importantly what is it that they need? The answer is growth. Our clients come to us for sales and growth and so our pitch should be structured that way.
SIMPLICITYOur challenge is to keep programmatic simple. Explaining to clients the complex algorithms that are used by the platforms in order to determine how valuable a particular cookie is for the campaign objective means little to a client that wants to know how many leads the proposal we are pitching will bring in.
TRUSTBuilding trust with our clients is key everywhere, but more so in Latin America where mistrust for online services is pervasive. If the clients perceive programmatic as a new scary gimmick that they should mistrust, selling them on the idea will be that much harder. Misconceptions add fuel to this fi re and they continue doing business as usual and avoid change, which in our circumstances usually results in picking portals and buying by clicks. This translates to “I see where it is running and I know what I am paying for.”
2015 the year ofprogrammatic for latin AmericaLatin America got its fi rst taste of programmatic in 2013. A perf Miami was as one of the fi rst and most successful players in the region, introducing 3rd party data buys, private deals, prospecting, retargeting, and other audience buying activity. In order to successfully continue selling currentand new clients the viability and e ectiveness of programmatic, synergy between our units needs to happen, and like a well oiled machine, our system must have all units working together harmoniously at full speed. The following programmatic core values can help our agency achieve just that.
DATACurrently, one of the biggest challenges facing programmatic in latin America is the lack of first and third party data. This is not to say that the opportunity isn’t there. In fact, many sources point out that in Latam, people spend more time online and in social media than anywhere else in the world. The next step is to start collecting this data and using it. But doing so requires a delicate balance between utilizing data in a strategic way while not violating
the trust of the users. A strong data and analytics team is needed to work hand in hand with Affiperf in order to accomplish this. In Miami, Data and Analytics has risen to the occasion by enforcing naming conventions, harmonizing data, creating dashboards, and ultimately finding insights that yield better performance for our clients.
COURAGEWhen we propose to our clients this radically di erent way of buying media, we are challenging the status

quo. We are no longer creating media plans, but audience plans. In doing so we are going against conventional thinking in Latam and going against the opinions of our clients takes courage.
If we truly embrace the programma-tic core values of market, simplicity,
trust, data and courage, we will continue to have
an active role in this exciting movement
and together we can make 2015 the year of program-matic media in latin America.

DATA NATIVES (24 %)A young population group (15-24 years old), who are aware of this issue but not particularly concerned by it, and it has no particular e ect on their behaviour. For data natives, data capture is just part and parcel of new technologies. They do not necessarily feel that they gain any opportunities from it but they are not in favour of regulation.
DATA STRATEGISTS (9 %)An older population group (35-49 years old) who are very conscious of the data capture issue. It concerns them to some extent, but they are not really worried. They take a variety
of steps to prevent or limit data capture. They are open to all kinds of compensation such as transparency, lack of advertising and trading data for services, but they are not looking for signifi cant fi nancial compensation.
DATA FATALISTS (27 %)This group tends to be younger, aware of the issue and concerned by it, but not really in favour of regulation. They rarely take steps to protect themselves. For them, data capture is simply an accepted part of everyday life.
DATA PARANOIACS (36 %)The oldest group (over 35 years old)
and the most concerned. They do not see any benefi ts in their data being captured, and they are more likely to support regulation. Their many worries include fraud, surveillance, sharing of their medical details and geolocation. They take steps to protect themselves, for example, by ensuring websites are secure before using them and favouring the sites of well-known brand names.
DATA CASUALS (4 %)
This group is between 25 and 49 years old. They are not particularly aware of or concerned about the issue because they are pragmatic and opportunist by nature. They think they may benefi t from the fact that their data is being captured. They tend to be more passive when it comes to protecting their data, are more willing to share it (except for their correspondence and e-mails) and are more likely to be in favour of the idea of attaching a monetary value to it.

Havas Media Hungary as the most successful applicant at the first Hungarian CMA awards
Our award winning Dettol case intro-duced a very special and unique-to –the –market product placement solu-tion. Dettol hand wash, a high price, high quality product was a great chal-lenge to get introduced to the tradi-tionally price sensitive and already saturated market. Our task was not only to reach a 2,5 % market share ratio after the launch campaign, but also to get the hand hygiene profes-sional image on the market. To fulfi ll the above, we set up coo-peration with a very popular prime-time soap opera with many hospital-
located scenes. It made great impact among our target, and also supported the professional image through the hospital exposure. The product placement was comple-mented by PR reports staring the actors playing doctors in the soap and some interviews with real doctors at child-ren’s hospitals about the importance of hand hygiene. With the help of Havas Media Hungary’s proprietary and also unique Brand-On-Screen report tool we managed to digitally measure the viewership results of our product placement and our solution proved to bring market lea-ding TRP fi gures for the most cost e ective CPPs.
The campaign itself doubled the expectations- we rea-ched a market share of 5,9 % and set up Dettol’s image as the hand hygiene professional on the market.
Leading marketing communications publisher « Kreatív » organised its fi rstContent Marketing Award contest in Hungary this year. Havas Media Hungary got the 2014 Hungarian Content Marketing Award in the FMCG category with Dettol.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE MANAGEMENTOver the medium-long term, only excellent customer experiencerepresents real competitive advantage because all other assetscan easily be replicated by competitors. That is why we need to focus on o ering experiences that areboth relevant and enjoyable and not merely functional.
Customer experience is the way in which people perceive all inte-ractions with the brand, so it is essential to break down the bar-riers between the organizational silos that manage different contact points, to integrate information and to design a standardized brand experience in order to pro-mote personalized relationships with customers. These activities are aimed at achie-ving a fundamental goal: meaning-fulness and relevance in the rela-tionship experienced with the brand.Implementing a customer expe-rience management philosophy
into existing company culture can be com-plicated because information sources and other pieces of the puzzle are scattered, numerous, and at first glance appear to be incompatible with each other. For this rea-son Havas Media Group has formulated a roadmap for gradually and efficiently intro-ducing an integrated customer experience management approach.
The strategic roadmap makes it possible to initially formulate the objectives and com-bine the data and tools that already form integral business assets, allowing the company to reap the benefits of digitization and customization of communication.

15%The world of marketing is changing. After years of proven strategy and practises, a change is occurring – a change that is dramatically a ec-ting the world of marketing: the emergence of digital media. Along with the dynamic transfer of com-munication to the on-line environ-ment, its intensity is also changing; new forms are emerging, making an impact on public relations and other communication channels.A good example of this is a well-known car manufacturer communi-cation campaign called « Hyundai is not afraid of comparisons ». The campaign was created by Havas Media ČR. Besides traditional media
and printed advertisements, the cam-paign used blogs, viral messages and social networks such as Facebook, as well as a guerrilla campaign. Several types of viral videos were launched on youtube.com and stream.cz. These were accompa-nied by moderated discussions in carefully selected forums. The vi-deos contained comparisons of the designs, interiors and technologies used in Hyundai and Škoda cars. Vi-deos were also deployed on specia-lised servers (Autofanatici, Autohit, MarketingSalesMedia, Marketing). Together with the viral messages, a Facebook application aimed at com-parisons was launched. There was
also a photo report providing de-tailed information about the myths of individual cars. The « Hyundai is not afraid of comparisons » campaign relied on concentrated coverage of commu-nication channels within a very short time period. And the strategy paid off. The originality of the car manufacturer's campaign, openly inviting people to compare its cars with the competition, impressed both the media and end consumers, and within several days flooded the entire Czech Republic. In May, the campaign deservedly won an award at the Marketing Management conference in Prague.

We will expect time with mobile and online generally to increase, but will this be additional time with media, or will it be at the expense of time with the so-calledtraditional media? We would expect time spent with multiple media to increase markedly, but will there be surprises about the time of day that this is happening? Clearly, though, the most eagerly anticipated data will be that which is newest – passive capture. Passive cap-ture addresses one of research’s age old problems – that consumers can be very remiss at reporting on their own activities at times. Passive data collec-tion via the smart phone app will allow us to know if people are connected via a wi-fi or mobile network, which apps

they're using, which sites, how long for, calls made and received, texts made and received and their location. Essentially, almost anything they are doing on their phones. The ability to look at how and when people are using their mobile devices with cer-tainty will be a valuable addition to the researchers arsenal.
Central to all our thinking at Havas is the desire to build meaningful connections with consumers. We might not yet be able to tell what the consumer is really feeling, but knowing what they are really doing will help us to fi nd those meaning-ful connections and plan our clients media appropriately. TouchPoints is an absolutely vital part of that.
