Greetings from KSCASI. Wish you all a happy Christmas and a new year in advance. This is the last issue of Shasthra before KSCASICON 2019 and change of guard of KSCASI. I thank you all and KSCASI for giving me the opportunity to serve as editor of Shasthra so far.

Announcements to various posts and bid for conference etc… are given in this issue. Kindly go through and participate actively in KSCASI activities.In the recently held ASI elections Dr HV Shivaram, Dr Siddesh, Dr AS Godhi and Dr Rajagopal Shenoy are elected to national EC. Dr Rajan CS is elected to IJS editorial board member. I congratulate all of them.

KSCASICON 2019, Ballari is fast approaching. Team Ballari is working hard to provide a scientific feast along with great food and a cultural extravaganza. I request you all to register in large numbers and make it a grand success. Please note that deadline for paper submission is 10th Jan 2019. Submit your scientific papers as early as possible. As Chairman of Karnataka state surgeons, I feel proud myself to attend many medical colleges and city chapter

activities. On 5th of October I attended a annual CME programme at my own institute, JN Medical College Belagavi. Dr. Dilip

Gode President ASI was chief guest for the inauguration programme. Dr Prabhakar Kore, Chairman KLE Society, was

presiding over the function. Dr Byakodi our state EC member was observer from KMC.I attended a “Free Endoscopy Camp” arranged by Dr. Naaz, EC member KSC-ASI, at Hospet on 14th October.

Eighteen patients underwent free upper GI Endoscopy. This was followed by a CME jointly organized by Vijaynagar

Branch and Sakara Hospital, Bengaluru.On 27th of October I attended a CME and workshop at SN Medical College Bagalkot. Workshop was on laparoscopic

hernia repair. It was excellent and informative. I gave a lecture on “Fitness & Surgeon”. Postgraduates were trained for

staples in surgery. I congratulate all the surgeons of Bagalkot district involved in this mega event.On 4th November we had an EC meeting at Ballari and visited the conference venue with all EC members. Various

aspects of the KSCASICON 2019 were discussed and suggestions were made for the improvement and smooth

conductance of the forthcoming state conference. It was followed by a guest lecture on “Liver transplantation” by team

from Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru.

Dear senior colleagues and friends,

stOn 21 November attended quiz competition was held at MS Ramaiah Medical College Bengaluru, under the leadership of Dr Rajan. I don’t have words, to explain how informative and competitive this quiz was! In the coming years our state chapter should involve more actively and support this activity. Our postgraduates must attend this annual CME arranged by surgical society of Bengaluru.Long live KSC-ASI

KSCASI has been blooming and buzzing with activities this year and our chairman was omnipresent in

almost all branches’ important activities.KSCASICON 2019 is set to welcome all of us for the festival of academics and sumptuous food with

affection. Kindly register in good numbers and enjoy the camaraderie of Ballari.This year we have elections for all the posts and as passed in GBM Hassan, it will be E-Voting on spot at

thGBM on 16 Feb 2019. Please carry a smart mobile phone without fail (if not alternate arrangements will be

done). Kindly note this will be a paperless eco-friendly conference so we are providing the APP which will

provide all the information of the conference with notifications. Kindly carry a smartphone to download the

APP at Ballari. Our hearty congratulations to Dr. H.V. Shivaram, Dr. G. Siddesh, Dr. A.S. Godhi and Dr. Rajagopal Shenoy

Thanks to Dr. Naaz, Dr. Aravind Patel and Dr. Soppimath for all the great effort in updating and editing the Byelaw book.KSCASI branch coordinator Dr. Jaspal has coordinated with office bearers of all branches & has been

updating all their activities. I have served as the honorary secretary past 2 years and my term will be over in Ballari. I whole heartedly

thank everyone for giving me this opportunity to serve KSCASI to the best of my abilities. I sincerely thank

OBITUARY

Dr. Gopala Krishna left us for heavenly abode. He was Professor of

Surgery in JSS Medical college Mysore and HOD of Surgery in KIMS Hubli

between 1990 and 1994. He was Gentleman to the core, very good teacher and

caring to the students. May his soul rest in peace.

Dr Venkata Rao B expired on 07/10/2018. He was a senior surgeon from Shimoga.

City Branch ActivitiesVijayanagara Branch

A free upper G.I. Endoscopy camp was held at Citi Hospital organised by Dr.Naaz Jahan Shaikh in

association with Vijayanagara Branch of Surgeons of KSC ASI on 14-10-2010. Eighteen patients underwent free

endoscopy. It was inaugurated by Dr. Dayanand Nooli, KSC ASI Chairman and branch president Dr. B.N. Patil.

Senior surgeons Dr. Amareshwar, Dr. Naaz, Dr. Nooli and Dr. Sudhindra Rao, performed endoscopy. All members

actively participated in the camp. This was followed by a C.M.E held at Krishna Palace Hotel jointly organised by

Vijayanagara Branch and Sakara Hospital.

KSC ASI Bagalkot City Branch in association with Dept of General Surgery, S N Medical College, Bagalkot conducted live event with Q&A session on “NARROW BAND IMAGING ENDOSCOPY” on 20th October 3-6 PM by Dr.Mohinish Chhabra , Gastroentrologist , Fortis Hospital, Mohali .Session went on smooth and was attended by 30 consultants including postgraduates. Conducted CME AND WORKSHOP ON LAPAROSCOPIC HERNIA REPAIR AND GI STAPLERS on

th ththe 27 and 28 of October 2018. Ninety delegates had registered and 85 have attended the conference. The program was very much appreciated by all the delegates who had attended. It was very much useful to the consultant surgeons and post-graduates students in Surgery. Dr Dayanand Nooli, President KSC-ASI had attended the workshop. He and the guest speakers Dr Ashwin Masurkar and Dr Rahul Mahadar were felicitated.

Karnataka chapter is one of the most active chapters of ASI. We conducted many major activities and also

charity activities. Annual conference of the chapter was held at Hassan on 2nd to 4th Feb 2018. It was a grand

success with more than 1000 delegate participation. We are proud to say that our president Dr Dileep Gode was the

chief guest and delivered a lecture there. We have 19 city chapters which regularly conduct monthly meetings and

CMEs/workshops. Together, this year they have conducted more than 30 programs. We also have organized a few

major programs. One is Regional Refresher course. It was successfully organized by our Bengaluru city branch.

They also held a quiz for PG students. For the first time, KSCASImidCON 2018 was held at JSS Medical College,

Mysuru 25th and 26th Aug 2018. Lot of PG students presented papers and posters. Our social commitments lead

our city chapters to conduct some programs to public. On 4th and 5th Aug 2018, a free surgical camp was conducted

at Dandeli and was attended by our national president Dr Dileep Gode. A free Upper G.I endoscopy camp was

conducted at Hospet by Vijayanagara Branch on 14th October 2018. Mysuru city branch conducted a cancer

awareness program for the public on 5th Feb 2018. Our Shivamogga city branch donated a sum of Rs 50,000/- to Sri

Sharada Ramakrishna Ashrama, Ponnampet, Kodagu towards Kodagu floods relief fund to help those affected by

recent floods in Kerala and Kodagu. We have contributed an amount of Rs 1.00 crore in various forms to ASI HQ

from funds of ASICON 2016 held at Mysuru. We held 4 EC meetings so far to discuss and chalk out plans for future.

Next KSCASICON 2018 is planned in a grand way at Ballari in Feb 2018. We launched a women’s wing of

KSCASI on 2nd Feb 2018 at Hassan (Inaugurated by President, Dr. Dileep Gode).
