- Self development and career opportunities seem more important for international students than the contribution they can bring to knowledge.

- All would like to become university professors!

- All mentioned the difficulties related to the management of their research project. However, International students indicate that personal difficulties and language difficulties are as well or more important.

- Production of results, papers and the thesis itself seem to be a central issue for international students.

Time to completion at the Ph.D level: - Overall, Permanent residents students take one semester

less than Canadian students to complete their Ph.D.

- Overall, International students take 2½ semesters less than Canadian students to complete their Ph.D. (almost one year less!)

Graduation rate at the Ph.D. level:- Overall, graduation rate for International students is lower

than Canadian (by 20 points of %) and Permanent resident.

- When International students decide to abandon their studies, they did it after 4 semesters instead of 8 semesters for Canadian students!

Should we continue to recruit Graduate International Students ?

Yes… …but we have to know them better! And to continue to get more data…

… but we have to listen what they have to tell us!

… but we have to find adequate linguistic, logistic, academic and social integration approaches to offer them an enjoyable and stimulating environment…
