Thrust napes in the Luiswishi area
- typical example of stratiform Cu-Co deposit in the Congo part of the Copperbelt
- napes thrust to the north are lying on Mongwe-Kiubo fm through a megabreccia
- the megabreccia includes mainly blocs of the Roan Group, up to several km-size
- on the southern margin of the megabreccia, Mwashya fm are sheared and duplicated
- on the northern margin, the thrust has folded the Mongwe – Kiubo formations
J.Cailteux : Les gisements de cuivre et métaux associés dans le Katanguien en R.D.C.
Thrust napes in the Luiswishi area
- Luiswishi is a syncline structure, lying on its northern flank; it includes fm of Mines in the
central part & of RAT in the external part
LUISWISHIdeposit
- The structure shows (1) axial fault and (2) cross-cutting faults, both resulting from brittle tectonic
- A shearing parallel to stratigraphy occurs along RAT-Mines sbgr, and is marked by a breccia
composed with both RAT & Mines fragments
J.Cailteux : Les gisements de cuivre et métaux associés dans le Katanguien en R.D.C.
- Cu-Co occurs as a sulfide stratiform mineralisation that results from syn-diagenetic
processes, followed by metamorphic-hydrothermal remobilizations and enrichments
- Post-tectonic weathering dissolved the carbonate of the rocks in the superficial zone
of the deposits ; the limit of the weathered zone is marked here by the brown line
- This weathering also oxidized, remobilized & enriched the mineralization, giving way
locally to very high grade oxidized concentrations
