katholischen Kirchenmusik

unter Mitarbeit zahlreicher Forscher des In- und Auslandes

herausgegeben von Karl Gustav Fellerer

Seit Martin Gerberts „De cantu et musica sacra a prima ecclesiae aetate usque ad praesens

tempus" von 1774 ist keine grofiere, das Gesamtgebiet in mehreren Banden erfassende

„Geschichte der katholischen Kirchenmusik" mehr erschienen. Inzwischen haben musikwissen

sdiaftliche, theologische und liturgiegeschichtliche Studien neue und vertiefende Erkenntnisse

erbracht, die eine zusammenfassende Darstellung der Geschichte der katholischen Kirchenmusik

dringend fordern. Fiir dieses naturgemafi grofie Unternehmen konnten tiber 50 Forscher aus

dem In- und Ausland als Mitarbeiter gewonnen werden, die mit ihren Beitragen zum Teil

neue Forschungsergebnisse vorlegen. Trotz der grofien Zahl von Einzelbeitragen will das Werk

nicht als Aufsatzsammlung verstanden werden. Vielmehr hat der Herausgeber, Karl Gustav

Fellerer, eine iibergreifende Gesamtkonzeption erarbeitet, der sich die einzelnen Beitrage unterordnen. Die Fiille des Materials zwang zu einer Aufteilung auf zwei Bande. Dabei ergab sich der Schnitt aus der Bedeutung des Konzils von Trient fiir Liturgie und Musik der katho

lischen Kirche. Zahlreiche Notenbeispiele und Abbildungen alter Instrumente und originaler Notenschriften dienen zur Veranschaulichung und als Beleg der Darstellung. Umfangreiche Literaturverzeichnisse am Ende der jeweiligen Grofiabschnitte sind Hilfen fiir das Studium

weiterer Spezialabhandlungen. Das Werk darf somit den Anspruch eines Kompendiums erheben, das den Stand der Forschung zu einem der wichtigsten Gebiete der Musikgeschichte in umfassendem Sinne reprasentiert. Die zweibandige Geschichte der katholischen Kirchenmusik ist zur Subskription ausgeschrieben. Ober die Bezugsbedingungen unterrichtet ein Sonderprospekt.
