de I'association serait organise un colloque, avec un nombre limite de participants et un theme egalement limit&. Celui qui se tiendra a Saint-Germain-en-Laye du ler au 5 septembre 1970 sera le premier d'une serie que l'on espere longue et fructueuse. I1 comprendra cinq journees, chacune consacree entierement a un theme touchant la musique du XIXe siecle.

Pour des raisons faciles a comprendre il 6tait impossible d'inviter tous ceux qui s'int'ressent a cette tres large periode. On a cherche n'anmoins une formule qui permette de faire participer de fagon indirecte les musicologues qui ne seront pas presents aux reunions. C'est le but de ce numero special de divulguer assez longtemps a I'avance les rapports prdliminaires du colloque. Certains de ceux-ci sont concus comme un bilan provisoire, d'autres posent surtout des questions ou bien indiquent une voie A suivre ou un exemple sur un cas precis.

Tous les membres de la SIM - et meme ceux qui n'en sont pas encore membres - sont instamment invites a donner leurs points de vue sur les sujets abordes, a ecrire leurs suggestions, additions ou critiques au chairman dont le nom et l'adresse sont indiques a la fin de chaque rapport. Ainsi seront constitues a I'avance des dossiers ordonnes et fournis, qui permettront aux chairmans de rythmer l'ordre du jour de chaque journee. Les membres du colloque prendront connaissance de ces contributions avant d'engager une discussion generale. Au lendemain de la reunion, ces contri- butions seront, dans les limites de la place disponible, incluses dans une seconde publication qui contiendra egalement un resume des discussions.

Pour que cette formule obtienne un succes, il est indispensable que ceux qui ont entrepris des recherches sur l'un ou l'autre des aspects envisages n'hesitent pas a prendre la plume et a livrer leurs idles sur cette epoque a u p 1 u s t a r d 1 e 1 e r a o f t 1 9 7 0. En vue de faciliter leur tache, les chairmans ont a leur disposition un certain nombre de tirages-a-part de chaque rapport, qu'ils pourront faire parvenir a ceux qui en feraient la demande.

The International Musicological Society has decided that between each full Con- gress of the association a conference, limited both in the number of participants and in theme, would be organised. The conference to take place at Saint-Germain-en-Laye from September 1st to 5th, 1970, will be the first of a series that one hopes will be long and fruitful. Each of the five days will be dedicated entirely to a theme concern- ing music of the 19th century.

For reasons that will be readily understood, it was impossible to invite all those interested in this very broad period. We have endeavoured, however, to find a means of enabling musicologists who will not be present at the meetings to participate indirectly. The aim of this special number is to publish the preliminary reports of the conference fairly well in advance. Some are conceived as provisory surveys, others largely raise questions, or indicate a road to pursue, or give an example in a specific case.

All members of the IMS-and those, too, who are not yet members-are at once invited to give their points of view on the subjects tackled, to send their suggestions,

additions or criticisms to the chairman whose name and address are indicated at the end of each report. Thus, ordered files will be constituted in advance, enabling the chairmen to plan each day's agenda. Conference members will acquaint themselves with these contributions before entering upon general discussion. Shortly after the

meeting, these contributions will, as far as space permits, be included in a second publication which will also contain a resume of the discussions.

In order that this scheme may meet with success, it is indispensable that those who have undertaken research on one or another of the aspects envisaged do not hesitate to take up pen and ink and communicate their ideas on this era by A u g u s t st 1970 a t t h e la t e s t. To facilitate their task, the chairmen have a certain number of offprints of each report available, which will be sent upon request.

Die ,,Internationale Gesellschaft fiir Musikwissenschaft" hat beschlossen, zwischen den Hauptkongressen der Gesellschaft Kolloquien mit einem eng umrissenen Themen- kreis und mit einer begrenzten Teilnehmerzahl durchzufiihren. Das in der Zeit vom 1. bis 5. September 1970 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye stattfindende Kolloquium wird das erste einer hoffentlich langen und ergebnisreichen Reihe sein. Jeder der fiinf Tage wird einem bestimmten Thema aus dem 19. Jahrhundert gewidmet sein.

Aus naheliegenden Griinden war es nicht m6glich, alle an diesem umfassenden Thema Interessierten einzuladen. Es wurde daher nach einer M6glichkeit gesucht, auch die Musikwissenschaftler, die das Kolloquium nicht besuchen k6nnen, indirekt doch daran teilnehmen zu lassen. Aus diesem Grund soll das vorliegende Heft vor- bereitende Berichte fiir dieses Kolloquium rechtzeitig zugainglich machen. Einige von ihnen haben mehr provisorischen Charakter, andere sprechen grundsitzlich Fragen an, wieder andere weisen auf m6gliche Wege der Forschung oder behandeln Spezialfrille.

Alle Mitglieder der IGMw, aber auch Wissenschaftler, die noch nicht Mitglieder sind, werden herzlich gebeten, ihre Stellungnahmen zu den angesprochenen Themen mit- zuteilen, ihre Vorschldige, Erginzungen oder kritischen Anmerkungen dem Chairman einzusenden, dessen Name und Anschrift jeweils am Ende des entsprechenden Artikels steht. Somit k6nnen die hier erbetenen und eingesandten Diskussionsbeitrige im vor- aus bearbeitet werden, was wiederum dem Chairman die Festsetzung der Tagesord- nung erm6glicht. Vor einer allgemeinen Diskussion werden die Teilnehmer des Kolloquiums von diesen Diskussionsbeitrigen in Kenntnis gesetzt. Nach Beendigung des Kolloquiums werden diese Beitriige - soweit es der Platz erlaubt - in eine zweite Ver6ffentlichung aufgenommen, die dariiber hinaus auch eine Zusammenfassung der Diskussionen bringen wird.

Damit dieses Schema Erfolg hat, ist es notwendig, daB alle, die auf dem einen oder anderen der angesprochenen Gebiete gearbeitet haben, ihre Gedanken uiber diese Epoche m6glichst bald zu Papier bringen, sp itestens bis zum 1. August 1970. Um die Aufgabe zu erleichtern, steht den Chairmen eine bestimmte Anzahl von Sonderdrucken jedes in diesem Heft abgedruckten Berichts zur Verfiigung, die auf Anfrage zugeschickt werden.
