Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder In mythology, there is a story about Narcissus, a young man who kneeled every day beside a lake to peer at his reflection in the water and contemplate his own beauty. The story goes that he was so fascinated by his face that one morning while gazing at himself, he fell into the lake and drowned. At the spot where he fell, a flower grew, which people called the Narcissus (commonly called a Daffodil). When Narcissus died, it is said that the goddesses of the forest appeared and saw that the lake had transformed from fresh water into a lake of salty tears. "Why do you weep?" the goddesses asked the lake. "I weep for Narcissus," the lake replied. "Ah, it is no surprise that you weep for Narcissus," they said. "We often pursued him in the forest to enjoy his splendor, but you alone could contemplate his beauty close at hand." "But…was Narcissus beautiful?" the lake asked. Surprised, the goddesses said, "Who better than you to know that? After all, it was by your banks that he kneeled each day to contemplate himself!" The lake was silent for some time. Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

In mythology, there is a story about Narcissus, a young man who kneeled every day beside a lake to peer at his reflection in the water and contemplate his own beauty.

"We often pursued him in the forest to enjoy his splendor, but you alone could contemplate his beauty close at hand."

"But…was Narcissus beautiful?" the lake asked.

Surprised, the goddesses said, "Who better than you to know that? After all, it was by your banks that he kneeled each day to contemplate himself!"

The lake was silent for some time. Finally, it said:

"I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see my own beauty reflected in the depth of his eyes.”

Moral: Much of what we see in others is but a reflection of ourselves.

Sales & Price Up in March 2015

April 7, 2015 -- Toronto Real Estate Board President Paul Etherington announced that Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® reported 8,940 sales in March 2015. This result represented an 11% increase compared to March 2014. Sales were up for most major home types, both in the City of Toronto and the surrounding regions. New listings were also up, but by a lesser 5.5%, indicating tighter market conditions.

“Home sales increased compared to last year as the cost of home ownership remained affordable, with lower interest rates going a long way to mitigate the effect of rising home prices. However, a substantial amount of pent-up demand remains in place, especially as it relates to low-rise market segments. This suggests that strong competition between buyers, which has fuelled strong price growth so far this year, will continue to be experienced throughout the spring,” said Mr. Etherington.

In March, the average selling price for all reported transactions was $613,933 – up 10% year-over-year. The MLS® HPI Composite Index, which tracks benchmark homes with the same attributes from one period to the next, was up by 7.9%. Average price growth was strongest for detached homes in the City of Toronto, at 15.9%. Over the same period the detached MLS® HPI in the '416' area code increased 7.8%.

The MLS® HPI provides a clear indication of price growth due to the market forces of demand and supply. Comparing MLS® HPI growth to average price growth provides a sense of the changing mix of home types sold from one period to the next.

"It is clear that seller's market conditions in many parts of the GTA are driving price growth. However, looking at the detached market segment in the City of Toronto in particular, growth in the average selling price outstripped growth in the MLS® HPI. This points to the fact that the mix of detached homes sold this year compared to last has shifted towards more expensive properties," said Jason Mercer, TREB's Director of Market Analysis.

Sarnano VS The Germans: A Soccer Match

In the Spring of 1944, Sarnano, a town in Le Marche, Italy was under German occupation. Locals Libero Lucarini and Mimmo Maurelli tell of how the German general in control of Sarnano wanted to raise the moral of his troops and the town with a soccer match.

The general decided to send two of his officers to the home of a former Serie A referee, Mario Maurelli a local inhabitant of the area and Mimmo`s brother.

When the German officer requested that Mario organize a game between German soldiers and the locals, Mario found it difficult to refuse because a month earlier, partisan Decio Filipponi, who was accused of killing three Germans, was captured, executed and was left hanging dead in the square. This was enough to convince Mario to do as he was asked.

Maurelli started forming a team but struggled to find players because many of the young men of Sarnano were hiding from the Germans. After discussions with the general, it was agreed that those that played in the game would have their safety guaranteed.

With these assurances, on April 1, 1944, 11 men came down from the hills to a pitch circled by German soldiers. They had been advised by Maurelli, who was the referee, to just get through the 90 minutes and go easy on the Germans.

Despite the advice, the Italians played better and Sarnano went a goal up through a Grattini header. The townspeople let up an uneasy cheer as occupying soldiers watched.

The Germans attacked but were clumsy. They missed many scoring opportunities.

With just minutes remaining, full-back Lucarelli ‘slipped’, allowing his opponent through on goal. The German player took a shot. The goalkeeper let it in. Scores were level at 1–1.

Just as Maurelli was about to blow the final whistle, the Italians launched a shot high and long which was preceded by an 11 player charge from the Sarnano team, towards the ball.

With this, the referee blew for time. The Italians continued to run for their lives to the hills.

Liverpool manager Bill Shankly said, “football is not a matter of life or death, it’s more important than that.”

In a game where machine guns double up as corner flags, the unofficial 1944 Sarnano football team were surely happy to disagree with the legendary Merseyside tactician…

Great Grass Grass seeding in the spring can help you achieve a lush lawn. Wet weather with

temperatures in the 10 to 20 degrees Celsius range are ideal conditions for seeding. The

key is putting the seed down properly. Just

broadcasting it won't work because if the seed is not

buried, it will not germinate and the birds will eat it.

However, those that follow these six steps will have

a thicker lawn within 10 to 12 days.

1) Locate your bare spots

2) Dig the bare spots out 1.5"

3) Liberally seed the bare spots

4) Spread topsoil over the grass seed

5) Tamp the topsoil with a tamper such as a

brick or wooden block.

6) Water daily!

PILGRIMAGE OF LOVE By Robin MacLennan, (Adapted)

http://www.thebarrieexaminer.com/2011/08/11/pilgrimage-of-love-2

Romeo Meleca an 80-year-old Toronto man leads a 200-kilometre religious pilgrimage to Teopoli, just south

of Gravenhurst every summer.

"We are walking to raise money to send children to summer camp at Teopoli," he explained. "Last year we

were able to pay for 84 needy children and this year we are hoping to do even better."

Teopoli is a Catholic spiritual centre that hosts an overnight summer program for children aged six to 16.

Meleca has completed the annual fundraising trek originating at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Etobicoke

annually since 1982 and he says he will continue as long as he is able to walk.

"This is a pilgrimage of love and I love to do it, that's all," Meleca said.
