Poster In terms of my poster, and through product research such as deconstructions of genre and nongenre specific film posters, there were many conventions of posters which I had identified, used, developed and challenged: USED Billing block A billing block is a type of credits, specifically for posters. This references the directors, production company, music, producers and other crew members. Here is an example of the romantic film ‘If I stay’: Furthermore, the billing block is usually seen at the bottom of the poster, as it has the least importance in terms of the features, although it is used for extra information and credit of the film. Without a billing block, noone would know who made the film and all the other ‘behind the screen’ aspects of it, therefore the billing block is seen to be an authenticity to show the audience the information. Also, the billing block uses a very distinctive style of font, which I replicated on Adobe Photoshop using the ‘Trajan Pro’ font. Here is my billing block, positioned in the bottom centre of my poster: Title In real media products, I identified that the title is usually in the biggest font on the page, as it has high importance to the film, thus the initial recognition. The title is also in a font associated with the other packages, like the film magazine and trailer, which I also used. Furthermore, the title would also overlay the background image, using a font in order to make it stand out amongst the image and other texts. Here is an example of the Fault in our stars film title:

Poster  In terms of my poster, and through product research such as deconstructions of genre and nongenre specific film posters, there were many conventions of posters which I had identified, used, developed and challenged:   USED  Billing block A billing block is a type of credits, specifically for posters. This references the directors, production company, music, producers and other crew members. Here is an example of the romantic film ‘If I stay’:

Furthermore, the billing block is usually seen at the bottom of the poster, as it has the least importance in terms of the features, although it is used for extra information and credit of the film. Here is my billing block, positioned in the bottom centre of my poster:

Title In real media products, I identified that the title is usually in the biggest font on the page, as it has high importance to the film, thus the initial recognition. The title is also in a font associated with the other packages, like the film magazine and trailer, which I also used. Furthermore, the title would also overlay the background image, using a font in order to make it stand out amongst the image and other texts. Here is an example of the Fault in our stars film title:

Here is my film poster’s title:

Actors names In film posters, it is a usual convention to have the main characters names on the poster so that the audience could identify them. Due to our genre being a romanticdrama, the characters names usually found on the film posters are the two main protagonists in the relationship. Here is an example from the Dear John poster:         The use of actors names, is used as part of star theory. This is where films would purposely cast a very popular actor/s in their film, as a way of getting more people to watch it. This is due to the audience associating an actor they would have already seen in a film before, such as Channing Tatum who, as well as ‘Dear John’, features in successful films such as 21 Jump Street and The Vow. Therefore, as we would have had well known actors in our film, we mentioned them on our poster. These are also normally found at the top of the poster. Here is my actors names on my poster:

Main Image In the majority of Romanticdrama posters, there is usually an image of the two main protagonists, in order to represent their loving relationship. Here are some examples of films of romantic film posters:

Furthermore, I noticed that the images used for the posters are usually shots in the film, which may have been reproduced for a photoshoot. Therefore, as I looked at the film footage we had, I decided to use a shot from the film in order to connect them together. This shot worked well with my landscape layout also, and showed the two protagonists happy in a relationship. Here is my film poster with the image:

DEVELOPED  Critical response From looking at existing film posters, I noticed that they usually have a critic’s response on them. This is usually done by a wellknown newspaper, such as ‘The Daily Mail’. Therefore I copied this feature by having ‘The Guardian’ be the critical response on my film poster. However, they are usually a one word adjective or short phrase about how much they liked the film. Therefore, I developed this convention by using a five star rating at the top of the poster, as this would stand out to the audience much more.
