    PROFESSIONAL LANGUAGE IN PRESENT-DAY ROMANIAN.

    LINGUISTIC PATTERNS AND DISCURSIVE STRUCTURES

    Stage 1

    October December 200

In the first stage of this project, the team coordinated by Prof. Mihaela Gheorghe

PhD concentrated full attention on two objectives:

    !"# e$%&r'eme$t o( t)e *oc+me$t&r, b& &bo+t t)e ree&rc) to/cand

he associated activities are essential to start fundamental research focusing on

professional language in present!day "omanian. hese activities refer mainly to the

identification of relevant studies for the research topic that were published in speciali#ed

journals so that the bibliography for this research project could be completed.

he boo$s that we bought from prestigious publishing houses are from the field of

pragmatics, discourse analysis, contrastive grammar, all these being relevant for the

research topic aiming at identifying and describing linguistic patterns and discursive

    structures of professional "omanian.

%lthough we did not aim at promoting the project from the very beginning, we

tried to let the scientific community $now about our endeavor and too$ part at the

national symposium organi#ed by the Institute for &inguistics Iorgu Iordan Al. Rosetti

within the "omanian %cademy between '(!') *ovember +- and at the annual

conference of the "omanian &anguage Department within the niversity of /ucharest

between -!0 December +-. hese are two of the most prestigious conferences focusing

on "omanian linguistics. his idea can be promoted by the international opening of the

conference of the "omanian &anguage Department since 1armen Dobrovie!2orin and %.

Met#eltin, member of the %ustrian %cademy, together with other researchers from the

niversity of %msterdam were $eynote spea$ers and guest spea$ers at this scientific

meeting. his is the general framewor$ where 2tanca M3da, "3#van 23ftoiu and MihaelaGheorghe presented the project that had just started. It was a good opportunity for us to

get in contact with the members of a project coordinated by the niversity of %msterdam

for future collaboration about the research methodology. he idea of promoting the

project within the scientific community was continued by Mihaela Gheorghe, who

published an article in the 2cientific /ulletin of ransilvania niversity of /ra4ov.

%lthough it was not an objective in itself for this stage, we anticipated activities

that are connected with future objectives and sent for review the abstract of a collective

paper for the I%D% 5or$shop to be held in May, in Milan 6Italy7.
