    estamos obligados a seguir llevando.

0n today1s second lesson, 2e can clearly see that 2hat 2e consider to be po2erful,

impressive and magnificent from our human point of vie2is not from 3od1s perspective. He

clearly tells us that 2hat the 2orld criticizes scorns and re$ects, 3od uses to reveal his

    po2er.

4et1s ta5e a brief $ourney through the birth and ministry of esus.

He 2as born in a poor, marginalized village to a poor family. He gre2 up surrounded by

farmers and 2or5ing class people, under the heavy yo5e of the 6oman Empire. 7hen his

ministry began, he chose men and 2omen that had nothing to do 2ith the 8high society9 or

in any 2ay religiously or financially po2erful, but instead chose those from small to2ns,

used to 2or5ing and struggling 2ith everyday problems, hoping for a better life. He died

li5e a criminal, nailed to a cross 2ith t2o thieves by his side, condemned by the religiously

    po2erful as a heretic.

7as this really supposed to be the image the people had of their savior) 7hat madness

to thin5 that this poor and humble man could be even $ust a prophet

/y ta5ing this short $ourney, 2e are made a2are that from the beginning3od uses that

2hich seems to be 2orthless to sho2 His great po2er, something that 2as understood byeveryone, but the poor 2ere able to grasp much more easily because they could identify

    2ith esus.

0t 2ould not have been strange if esus 2ere born into 2ealth, po2er and 2isdom, and as

he gre2, formed a great army 2ith enough po2er to defeat the oppressive 6oman Empire.

:his 2ould have been very much in line 2ith concept of a savior that the people had at the

time. :his is 2hy the cross is foolishness for many, but for us it1s the revelation of 3od1s

po2er. :his is 2hy the cross is a stumbling bloc5 for some, but for those 2hom 3od has

called, it is the greatest evidence that esus ; 3od incarnate in human form ; came to

share in the suffering of his people, and that 2e can be sure that even no2 in our o2n

suffering that 3od continues to be present.

0n understanding this 2e also understand in the spirit in 2hich he gave the /eatitudes.

esus isn1t congratulating the poor, those 2ho mourn, or the persecuted< this 2ould be

totally contrary to his ministry. esus is giving them a message of hope that 2e are

obligated to continue carrying forth today.

/lessed are the poor because they have discovered that they can see, even in the midst of

their poverty, the revelation of 3od1s po2er, and they can loudly proclaim that material

goodsdon1t bring happiness. :his can be said by the poor 2ho have encountered 3od

accompanying them in their poverty, and alsoby the 2ealthy, 2ho have discovered that

material 2ealth isn1t essential in life.

/lessed are those 2ho mourn because in these moments of pain only 3od1s comfort

    calms our soul.

/lessed are those 2ho hunger and thirst for righteousness because 2hen one is hungry

and thirsty, they loo5 for the 2ay to be satiated. 7e can be sure that they 2ill 2or5 hard to

    ma5e $ustice a reality.

/lessed are those 2ho are criticized, persecuted or beaten for sharing the gospel because

they eperience the true 2isdom of 3od in their o2n flesh, 2hich is foolishness to the2orld.

/lessed are all of us 2hen no one understands 2hy 2e continue moving for2ard 2hen

everything seems to be going against us, 2hen 2e go beyond our o2n capabilities,

because it is really 3od 2or5ing through us. 7e should feel blessed 2hen the 2orld only

sees destruction, death and dar5ness, but 2e encounter the light of 3od.

3od 2as manifest and continues to reveal himself to us 2ith messages that 2e should not

try to discern 2ith our human mind, but rather feel 2ith our heart. :he truth 2as not

revealed to the 2ise and the po2erful, but to the humble people of 3od, 2ho 2hile in the

dar5ness, found the light that 2as sho2n in the humble carpenter from "azareth.
