Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): 20601 spectators were present inside the Ali Sami Yen Spor Komplekski stadium, Istanbul to watch the Third Place Playoff between Ghana and Iraq. 3-0 was the final score but in truth the game was more closely fought than the scoreline suggests.  Attamah opened the scoring the 35th minute as he rose the highest, guiding the ball into net from a corner. Ghana doubled their lead in stoppage time at the end of the first half when Assifuah finished well from an acute angle. Into the second half, Iraq tried very hard to get back into the game. However, the Ghanaians sealed the victory twelve minutes from time as Acheampong expertly finished a thr ough ball from the i mpressive Aboagy e.

Referee

Crucial Decisions (refer to penalty kicks, sending-off situations etc.)

Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the referee’ s decision

Ricci had no crucial situations to address as it was not a difficult outing for theBrazilian.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight thereferee’ s tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teamsand players, teamwork etc.).Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences!

Positive Points

1.Ricci remained on the peripheral and only whistled when really necessary. Thisapproach suited perfectly to this particular game and allowed both nations toreally express themselves when in possession of the ball.

2.

There were many occasions in this game where Ricci opted to speak tooffenders, warning them of their future conduct rather than dishing out cards. In amatch of this intensity, this was appreciated. He only administered a solitarycaution which was undeniably justified. The recipient (Seidu GHA #8)uncontrollably lunges into an Iraqi player.

3. Always close to play, which ensured he had an ideal view over precedings.

Points for Improvement

Ricci was unchallenged in this particular game. I could not identify any points for improvement.

One peculiarity could be the fact that Ricci utilised the foam spray somewhatsporadically.
