    1) Description of the match:

Final group game for Russia and Germany. In this particular encounter, these two nationswere just playing for pride as both nations were already eliminated from the tournament. There were approximately 9500 spectators inside the Netanya Stadium who contributed to avery nice atmosphere.

With nothing to play for but pride, both nations could really express themselves. It was theGermans who started the brightest. However, Russia took the lead in the 22nd minutethrough Alan Dzagoev. Germany equalised through the very impressive Herrmann 10minutes later. Sebastian Rudy got his second goal of the tournament and the winner in the69th minute via a penalty. Germany ran out deserved winners and they finished thetournament with 3 points while Russia finished with nothing after three consecutive defeatsin Group B.

    2) Knowledge, Application and Interpretation of the Laws of the Game, Disciplinary

Control and Technical Management of the game with special reference to the situations

and the minutes when they occurred.

(Crucial decisions, if available, have to be explicitly mentioned in the grid and

    highlighted).

    Comments:

Matej Jug showed good knowledge of the laws of the game and could differentiate between

what was a foul and what wasn't. There were four key events this match that Jug had toaddress. Firstly, in the 17th minute, RUS #18 flies into a reckless and dangerous tackle on GER#8. Jug should of sent-off this player but instead opted for a caution. In hindsight, instead ofrushing to a decision, Jug should have took his time and maybe consulted his assistants. Hehad a perfect position to see the infringement. This is definently a crucial mistake. Then, inthe 32nd minute, Jug correctly denies Germany a penalty and books GER #18 for simulation.5 minutes later, RUS #3 commits a very high challenge. Jug correctly dismisses him fordangerous play. Finally, in the 68th minute, after consultation from Ozhahya. Jug correctlypoints to the spot for a penalty to Germany. Out of the four key events, Jug correctlyaddressed three of them. Unfortunately his good performance will be overshadowed by his

decision not to send-off RUS #18 in the 17th minute.

Apart from that situation, Matej Jug put in a very good performance. His foul detection andhis card management were very good. He showed 5 yellow cards in this match. All of themwere justifiable except for the one in the 17th minute where he should of opted for redinstead.

    Minute Description of the situation

9RUS #17 fouls GER #8 which inturn stops a potentially promising attack forGermany. First yellow card of the game.

17Reckless and dangerous tackle from RUS #18 on GER #8. In this situation Jugshould have sent him off. However, he chose to caution the offender instead. He had a perfect position and should have used the colour red instead of

    yellow.

32Correctly denied a penalty to Germany and again correctly booked GER #18 forsimulation.

39Correctly sends off RUS #3 after a very high challenge. His feet were off theground and his studs were showing. Jug had no other alternative.

    68

Correctly awards Germany a penalty after GER #18 was fouled in the box. Atfirst it looked very harsh. However, further replays clearly indicated that GER#18 had his feet clipped. As Jug wasn't in the vicinity of the infringement. Itmust of been Ozhahya who communicated over the micro to inform Jug of thefoul and the offender is cautioned. Good decision and teamwork here.

86Uncontrolled tackle from behind by RUS #15 on GER #6. Jug cautions theoffender.

    3) Tactical approach and its Degree of Consistency, Personality, Match Control and

Management of the Teams and Players with special reference to the situations and theminutes when they occurred.

    Comments:

In this particular match, there were no altercations on the pitch nor the technical area. Thisindicates Matej Jug had complete control over precedings. Infact, I do not recall any playerfrom the two nations complaining to Jug about any decision. His approach for this match wasto not whistle every coming together and tried to let the game flow as much as possiblewhich resulted in a very nice football match.

    Summary of 2) and 3):

Positive Points 1. Communication and teamwork with assistants.

2.Did not whistle for every coming together. Tried to let thegame flow as much as possible.

    3. Tried to talk to players and warned them before cautioning.

    Not meeting require-

    ments, points that

    need improvement

    1. Card selection (should of shown red instead of yellow in 17').

    2. Sometimes missed clear fouls (24' & 35') due to weakpositioning.

3.More self-confidence should be expressed by a moredetermined way of showing cards (e.g. in the RC situation).

    Minute Description of the situation

7 Advises RUS #18 to calm down after a really robust challenge on GER #2

24Missed a clear free-kick to Germany. Turned away from the situation far tooquickly.

35 Missed another clear foul in favour of the Germans. GER #9 is clearly impeded.

71 Another instance where he advises a RUS player to calm down. This time RUS#8.

    4) Physical Shape, Stamina, Positioning, Movement as well as Mental Awareness, if

needed, with reference to the minutes when they occurred, always in case of a -.

Physical Condition (very good, good, average, poor): Good

    Further Aspects:

    + Expected -

XAlways close to play, follows play at all times with a flexiblediagonal system and impedes interference with play

XEfficient positioning (at set pieces e.g.) and movement to beready to take a (crucial) decision (specially in the box; beable to enter the box in some cases when it is necessary)

X Shows awareness and is able to anticipate the action

    Minute Description of the situation

Full time Positioning could be slightly improved to be ready to take important decisions.

    5) Teamwork (co-operation with (A)ARs and fourth official with reference, if needed, to

special situations and the minutes when they occurred)

    Comments:

There were instances where Jug communicated and worked well with his assistants. Nonemore so than in the 68th minute where Ozkahya advises Jug to award a penalty. All in all thesix officials portrayed very good teamwork and co-operation skills.

    6) If needed: General comments or advices for improvement; explanation of the chosen

mark; further matters (can be let empty).

    Comments:

Due to Jug failing to produce a red card in the 17th minute his mark will be 7.9 as this was acrucial mistake. If he did send-off the offender I was willing to award him a mark as high as8.5.

To improve on this performance, I advise Jug to get closer to the action so he doesn't missclear fouls such as the 24th and 35th minutes.
