Being outdoors during the fall gives a literal breath of fresh air to both ourselves and our pets. By taking a few extra precautions, we, our pets and hun-ters can all safely enjoy the great out-doors. Know when it’s safe for you and your pet to go outside. Though most hunting seasons occur in the fall and winter, each hunting zone and particular quarry has its own timeline. Introduce ‘blaze’ or ‘hunter’ orange to your furry friend’s wardrobe (and yours!). Consider your pet’s fears before going outdoors during hunting season. Anxiety can occur from the sound of gunshots; if this is the case with your pet, keep him away from hunting areas. Whether he is a seasoned bird dog or a house cat who stalks the bird feeder through the front window, keeping these safety tips in mind will ensure a safe, successful hunting season for you and your pet.

Corn Roast...a success! By Jacqueline Dotremont
Well, our Third Annual Corn Roast was a success with approxi-mately 150 people who came to carry on our cultural tradition as well as for the crowning of the King and Queen of our Festival! This year Collin Labelle (Rachelle Edmunds’ cousin) had the honor of being crowned King and Éveline Bohémier was crowned as Queen. She is from St. Boniface and is also a volun-teer in la Maison Goulet demonstrating the art of « ceinture flé-chée ». A big Thank You to Kim from the Artist Pivot in St-Pierre-Jolys for making and donating the corsages for our event! A big Thank You to Schriemer Family Farms for supplying the corn free of charge for our event. It sure hit the spot with our very own President and Cook, Roland Gagné, making sure the corn was cooked just right. Our bannock, made by Colleen Nault, was very tasty especially with homemade jelly and jam made by Gilles Hébert to top it off. This year, we added our famous « Pett’s de Soeurs » made by Araceli Barragon with rolling pin in hand and baked in our wood stove. Thank you to Daniel Girouard for stoking the wood stove throughout the afternoon and his wife Diane who was the timer and assistant « Pett’s de Sœur Maker »! They have been volun-teers in La Maison Gouleet since the beginning of our events and are always there to give us a hand. Thank you! We would like to Thank all of our volunteers who have taken the time to learn the art of working with our hands and bringing back the sweet aroma of baked goods in the wood stove as well as the stories told by Juliette Bousquet bring back memories of back in the day when life was simpler.
Thank you to all the youth who work in La Maison, some since they were six years old, they are teenagers now and still come to help out and do things « the old fashion way ». I remember one of the founders, Henri Desharnais who had made his home in la Maison for the summer months; he would make butter to instruct people how it was made and would of course tease them sometimes explaining that if they would turn the handle towards themselves instead of away, the butter would turn into margarine! And some actually believed this. We have Daniel, his son, who has followed in his father’s footsteps also making butter for many years. I remember Donald Maynard and Allan Bayne during the first years of the sugaring-Off Festival who would come and bake bread in Mr Côté’s old woodstove. The crust was especially thick and crisp. Mmmm! We cannot build without a foundation and this was created by a group of people who went to the Caisse and borrowed money for the purpose of establishing a Museum that would show the importance of our way of life in our community. Fern Hébert was one of the Presidents for the Musée de Saint Pierre and continues to work on projects with his brother-in-law Edmond Gautron La Maison Goulet now has third and fourth generations of the Desharnais family who continue in the heritage started by Henri and Armand Desharnais then René, also a Past President, who constructed the summer kitchen with members of the committee and now Marie (Desharnais) Ferguson and her daughters who come to give interpretations of the past. The picture taken at the Corn Roast shows some of the volun-teers that have worked there throughout the years, but sadly there are some who were unavailable for the event; some who had been there for six or seven years. Without them the realiza-tion of our successful events would not have been possible.
I would like to thank everyone as well as the committee who continue the always needed re-pairs, and new projects always on going. Thank you to all who took the time to come to our annual event and make it a success. And so, it will contine next year!

Jacqueline has devoted a lot of energy, time and effort in the preparations, the costumes, the cleaning of the Maison Gou-let before the events, during and after. Thank you Jacqueline!

L’Épluchette de blé d’inde..un succès! Par Jacqueline Dotremont
Voilà notre troisième épluchette avec environ 150 personnes qui sont venus pour continuer la tradition culturelle des métis ainsi que le couronnement du roi et de la reine! Cette année, les honneurs vont à Collin Labelle (cousin de Rachelle Edmunds) et Éveline Bohémier de St-Boniface (bénévole de la Maison Goulet faisant démonstration de la ceinture fléchée). Un gros Merci à Kim de Artist Pivot à St-Pierre-Jolys pour son talent d’artisanat pour les corsages gratuits. Notre appétit fut satisfaite avec le bon blé d’inde fourni sans frais par Schriemer family Farms d’Otterburne. Les épis furent cuit à point par le Président lui-même du Musée, Roland Gagné. La bannock, façonnée par Colleen Nault, avec les confitures « délices de La Rochelle » fait avec des fruits sauvages cueillis par Gilles Hébert, étaient dégustés avec plaisir par tous! Cette année, nous avions des « Pett’s de Soeurs » comme à la Partie de Sucre, fait avec précision par Araceli Barragon avec ses aides Daniel Girouard qui s’occupait du poêle à bois et sa femme, Diane, qui s’occupait de la cuisson; ils ont été béné-voles dans la Maison Goulet depuis le début de nos évènements et sont toujours prêt à donner un coup de main. Nous voulons remercier tout nos bénévoles qui ont appris à travailler comme « dans l’temps d’autrefois » pour nous rappeler que la vie n’était pas si facile et ramener les odeurs de cuisson dans le poêle à bois. Ainsi que les histoires racontée par Juliette Bous-quet et ses récollections de souvenirs de jeunesse pour nos aî-nées. Je remercie aussi les jeunes, plusieurs, qui sont là depuis l’âge de six ans et qui continuent à venir chaque année, pour continuer les démonstrations de travail à la main, et sont main-tenant des adolescents. Je reconnais un des fondateurs, Henri Desharnais qui avait fait son chez eux dans la Maison Goulet pendant les deux mois d’été, et qui faisait du beurre pour instruire beaucoup avec ses histoires et taquinage. Il leurs disait que s’ils tournaient la mani-
vèle de reculons, sa ferait de la margarine et certains le croyait! Et son fils Daniel qui a continué dans les traces de son père pendant plusieurs années. Donald Maynard avec Allan Bayne qui venaient faire cuire du pain dans le vieux poêle à bois de M. Côté pendant les premières Parties de Sucre. Ah, la bonne croûte qui avait! On ne peut pas bâtir sans une fondation et cette fondation a été crée par un groupe de Saint-Pierre qui sont allés à la Caisse pour faire un emprunt pour tout mettre en route au Musée. Notre Fernand Hébert a déjà été Président et maintenant avec son beau-frère, travaillent sur des projets pour améliorer et maintenir le site du Musée. La Maison Goulet a maintenant la troisième et quatrième géné-rations de la famille Desharnais qui continuent leur patrimoine à partir de Henri et Armand Desharnais, ensuite René (un an-cien Président) qui a construit la cuisine d’été avec des membres du comité et maintenant Marie Ferguson, née Deshar-nais, avec ses filles qui continues à ajouter à la Maison Goulet. La photo démontre ici plusieurs des bénévoles mais malheureu-sement, pas tous y sont. Certains ont donnés six ou sept ans de dévouement pour la réalisation du succès de nos évènements. Je tiens à les remercier tous ainsi que le comité du Musée qui continue à entretenir les bâtiments ainsi que les nouveaux pro-jets en main. Merci à tout ceux et celles qui sont venus pour l’épluchette, familles et amis de partout. Et, sa continue l’année prochaine.

Elle a mis beaucoup d’effort à maintenir l’histo-rique, les costumes et de s’assurer que les détails soient comme c’était dans le passé. Merci Jacqueline pour tout!
