The capacity range o the YORK model YK chiller is 250 to3,000 TR (880 to 10,540 kW). Both low-voltage (250 to 575 V)and medium-voltage (2,300 to 13.800 V) designs are available.

Real-world energy performance is essentialYORK® model YK centriugal chillers, manuactured byJohnson Controls, provide the best route to real-worldenergy perormance — the combined perormance atall operating conditions, not just design. Becausechillers in the real world operate nearly 99% o thetime at o-design conditions, o-design perormanceis the major actor in energy consumption. That’s whyYK centriugal chillers are engineered or maximumeciency at both design and o-design conditions.

Unsurpassed Integrated Part Load ValueThe Air-conditioning, Heating, and RerigerationInstitute (AHRI) Chiller Certication Program endorsesthe validity o o-design analysis to compare chillerenergy consumption. Measured with AHRI’s IntegratedPart Load Value (IPLV), YK centriugal chillers areunsurpassed in energy eciency. Equipped with

an OptiSpeed™

variable-speed drive, they canreduce energy usage as low as 0.20 kW/TRat o-design conditions.

Adaptive capacity control optimizes performanceWhen a YORK YK chiller is equipped with an OptiSpeeddrive, it incorporates advanced Adaptive CapacityControl logic, which continually optimizes chilleroperation. It closely examines critical operatingparameters, and then determines the most ecientway to operate. In addition, it lets you optimize yoursavings when using intelligent control strategies, such as chilled-water reset. Adaptive Capacity Control

logic also accommodates the characteristics o thererigerant used in the chiller — today and tomorrow.

Take advantage of colder entering-condenser waterUnlike competitive chillers which require enteringcondenser-water temperature (ECWT) rom the coolingtower to be held articially high, YORK YK centriugalchillers can utilize ECWT as low as 55°F (13°C). Thelower ECWT reduces the compressor workload, andthat can reduce instantaneous energy consumptionas much as 50%.

Powerful control center saves energyYK chillers eature the OptiView™ Control Center, whichuses microprocessor capabilities to save you energy.Operation at just 1° below the designed chilled-water-temperature setpoint can increase chiller energyconsumption by as much as 3%, wasting thousandso kilowatt-hours and dollars each year. The digitalprecision o the OptiView Control Center lets you setchilled-water temperature to a resolution o ± 0.1°.

As a result, you eliminate the energy wasted bydriting a degree or more rom the setpoint. TheOptiView Control Center can also be used to scheduledaily operating hours and holidays. No longer isenergy accidentally wasted cooling the acilitywhen it’s not needed.

The OptiView Control Center helps you operate your YORK YKchiller more efciently by allowing or the precise settingo chilled-water temperature and operating schedule.

Easy to operateThe intuitive, ull-color OptiView Control Center oersyou a higher level o monitoring and control. Data inputis oolproo, and data outputs are shown in associationwith illustrations o the appropriate chiller components. For convenience, all data can be displayed in elevendierent languages, in addition to Imperial or SI units.

Easy to monitorThe OptiView Control Center allows on-board trendingo up to six dierent values, selected rom over 100variables. The values and sampling interval are alluser-selectable. This fexibility allows you to selectparameters that are critical or your operation andto perorm trending without a BAS interace andseparate monitor.

Easy to integrate

Energy savings and ease-o-use can be ully realizedwhen the HVAC system is an integrated part o thebuilding-automation system. The OptiView ControlCenter is designed to communicate with the JohnsonControls Metasys® system. It can also communicatewith most control systems on the market today usingits optional ELink communication card.

Data outputs on the OptiView Control Center are accompaniedwith an illustration o the appropriate chiller component, makingchiller operation more intuitive.

The trending screen provided perormance insights not possiblewith snap shot observations.

Environmental responsibilityThe environmental impact o your chiller can besignicant. You can reduce your impact by speciyingYORK YK chillers. You'll get the benet o rerigerantHFC-134a, which has zero ozone depletion potential(ODP). Plus, the high eciency o the chillers reducesthe indirect global warming potential (GWP), which is98% o the total impact, caused by greenhouse-gasemissions produced by your utility to power the chiller. In addition, because o the chillers' high eciency, your building could earn points or the OptimizeEnergy Perormance (EAc1) credit in the Leadership inEnergy and Environmental Design® (LEED) program.

Falling-lm technology, utilized in the evaporator o YK chillers, reduces the rerigerant charge by up to40%. It is available in YK chillers up to about 1,000TR (based on conditions), and will help your building

to qualiy or maximum LEED points or EnhancedRerigerant Management (EAc4).

Reduced noise levelsTraditional centriugal chillers can generate a substantialamount o objectionable noise, but the YORK YK chilleris equipped with the innovative OptiSound™ Control, which reduces noise at o-design conditions. The controlcontinuously monitors the characteristics o the compressor-discharge gas and optimizes the diuser spacing o the compressor to minimize noisy gas-fow disruptionsrom the impeller. Chiller operation is also stabilized.

Flexible heating optionThe YORK YK chiller can also be congured as a heat-recovery chiller, or use in acilities with simultaneousheating and cooling requirements. The heat-recoveryunit takes advantage o the ree heat that is typicallyrejected by the cooling towers. The heat can beused to control humidity, reheat the air, and preheatdomestic hot water. Heat-recovery units haveoutstanding heating coecients o perormancethat can reach up to 11.4.

Quick restart and return to setpointThe Quick Start eature available on the YORK YKchiller reduces the risks that temperature-sensitiveacilities experience ater a power interruption. YKchillers equipped with this eature restart and returnto the specied chilled-water temperature aster, reducing the risks o expensive downtime.

Versatile design providessuperior sustainabilityand fexibility

The YK chiller is available in a heat-recovery confguration.Recovered heat can be used in the HVAC or domestichot-water systems.

A alling-flm evaporator is more efcient because rerigerant is

sprayed over the tubes, reducing rerigerant charge up to 40%.

OptiView Control Center keeps you well-informedThe OptiView Control Center provides complete inormationon your chiller’s operating condition. Saety-shutdowninormation includes day, time, cause o shutdownand type o restart required. Color-coding o aultmessages allows easy determination o chiller status.Yellow messages signiy shutdowns with automaticrestart, requiring no operator intervention. Red messages

are displayed or shutdowns requiring manual restart, alerting the operator that a system check may be required.

The Trending Screen can show changes in motorcurrent, oil temperature and pressure, rerigerantpressures, or water temperatures, all o which canbe valuable indicators o developing problems. Thiscapability gives you ample time to take correctivemeasures beore any expensive downtime is incurred. With the OptiView Control Center, you can see when toschedule routine maintenance in advance o actual need.

Open drive is easy to maintain

The YORK YK centriugal chiller uses an open-motordriveline, which means less downtime. I a motor ailureoccurs, the chiller can be brought back online much asterand at a reduced cost. The motor is easy to remove, and can be repaired at a local motor shop. As a result, downtime due to motor ailure is dramatically reduced.

Electrical protection extends motor lifeEquipped with an OptiSpeed drive, the YK chiller starts“sotly,” never letting the inrush current exceed 100%o the ull-load amps. By limiting the inrush, the motorwindings do not rub together with expansion, whichresults in longer motor lie and less chiller downtime.Lower inrush also reduces torque stresses on the motorand compressor driveline.
