INTRODUCTION

H.E.C was established in the year 1958 as one of the largest integrated engineering complex in country with excellent design , engineering and manufacturing .

H.E.C has three major parts in which products are manufactured according to the requirements. These three sub plants are :-

1.FOUNDRY FORGED PLANT

2.HEAVY MACHINE BUILDING PLANT

3.HEAVY MACHINE TOOL PLANT

FOUNDRY FORGED PLANT

It is the largest foundry and forging complex in India and one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The area of the Plant is 13,16,930 sq.m accommodating 76,000 tonnes of installed machinery to cope up with the various operations effectively.

1.Grey Iron Foundry 2.Steel Foundry 3.Forge Shop 4.Rough Machine Shop 5.Pattern Shop 6.Pattern Storage and Repair shop

FFP comprises the following units that enables it to make a variety of products are :-

The major processes of FFP

Grey iron casting.

Iron casting of piece weight 70 Ton finished weight . Centrifugal Casting .

Cock Oven door bodies , door frames and flash plated for coke oven up to 7m height.

Casting

Casting is a manufacturing process in which material is melted and then poured into mould to get the desired shape.

Casting finds a wide application in manufacturing science and different types of casting processes are used according to our convenient . The different casting processes are:-

1.Sand mould casting2.Shell moulding casting3.Precision Investment casting4.Die casting

5.Vacuum die casting6.Centrifugal casting

Forging is a secondary manufacturing process in which material is heated below recrystallization temperature and then manual or pneumatic force is applied to obtain the desired shape.

Forging is often classified according to the temperature at which it is performed: cold, warm, hot forging. The major forging processes are:-

1.Drop forging 2.Press forging 3.Upset forging

4.Roll forging

Press Forging

Press forging is a method of forging that involves the slow and continuous application of pressure on the work piece .

This method differs greatly from the heavy and quick blows used in drop and hammer forging.

Forging

Advantages:-

1. Parts produced by forging are stronger.

2. Reduces internal stress.3. Internal grain configuration can

be controlled.4. Better surface finish can be

achieved.

Disadvantages:-

1. Producing forged parts involves a lot of expenditure for the machinery, dies, tools and personnel.

2. Some forging requires metal-forming dies.

3. Requires very-high experienced engineers.

4. Relatively involves a lot of expenditure than casting.

HEAT TREATMENT

Heat treatment is a process of repeated heating and cooling to add the desired properties to the finished /semi finished .

The major heat treatment processes are :-1.Hardening2.Annealing3. Normalizing4.Case Hardening a. Carburizing

b. Nitridingc. Cyanidingd. Induction hardening

Heavy Machine Building Plant (HMBP) The Plant has a fenced area of 5,70,000 sq.m and a floor area of nearly

2,00,000 sq.m.

It is well equipped with sophisticated machine tools and handling equipment to undertake manufacture of heavy machinery and equipment of top quality.

It is engaged in design and manufacture of equipment and components for Steel Plant, Mining, Mineral Processing, Crushers, Material Handling, Cranes, Power, Cement, Aluminium, Space Research, Nuclear Power etc.

HEAVY MACHINE TOOLS PLANT(HMTP)

HMTP is the most modern and sophisticated of its kind in the country which produces machine tools in heavier ranges.

The Plant covers an area of over 2,13,500 sq.m.

It designs and manufactures medium & heavy duty CNC and conventional Machine Tools for Railways, Defence, Ordnance Factories, Space and other strategic sectors.

Welding is a process of joining similar or dissimilar metals by application of heat withor without application of pressure and addition of filler material.

Types of Welding: 1. Arc Welding a) Metal Inert Gas Arc (MIG) b) Tungsten Inert Gas Arc (TIG) etc. 2. Gas Welding

GAS WELDING

Slower and easier to control than electric arc. Uses gas flame over metals until molten puddle is formed. Most popular fuels used with oxygen include acetylene and hydrogen.
