The Saint-Lawrence River brought the first settlers here, and the river and port transformed the small colonial outpost of Ville-Marie into a thriving international city known as Montreal.

Walk north of the Ritz-Carlton hotel to find the walking path up the famous Mont-Royal. On the other side of the mountain, by the cemetery, you will find the St Joseph Oratory, the world’s largest monument to Saint Joseph. Built between 1904 and 1967, this Oratory attracts millions of visitors and is one of North Americas revered pilgrimage destinations.

Be sure to walk up the flanking staircas-es for a stunning view of the city!

The heart of Montreal is, without question, Mount Royal Park. This 101-hectare space includes the mountain just north of the Ritz-Carlton, which offers the highest spot in the city (234m) and a stunning view of the cityscape.

Offering a forest-filled place to escape the bustling life of the city, Mount Royal is where Montrealers go to get a breath of air on a hot day, to cross-country ski, go for a brisk walk, picnic, jog, ice skate, and look out over the city.

Bring your picnic gear to Beaver Lake (built in 1938) to enjoy it lake-side! Or, in the wintertime, you can rent skates to glide over the lake like a pro.

Located in the heart of Old Montreal among the cobble-stone streets and historical architecture is the Notre Dame Basilica: a neo-gothic church reputed for its opulent decor and au-dacious harmony of historical and modern. The ornate gothic interior contrasts with the striking modernity of the Sacré-Coeur chapel. Do as the French and slip into one of the nearby cafés to soak in its grandeur… only then will you understand why thou-sands of people visit this iconic build-ing each year!

The 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal deserved to be hosted in the most modern complex in order to showcase our metropolis in all its grandeur. Since then, the facilities draw over 100 million people to admire the 80 km view from the Observatory tower, attend a sporting event or trade show at the Stadium, or work out at the new Sports Centre.

With roughly 55,000 seats in its stands, the Stadium is the only venue in Quebec capable of holding more than 20,000 spectators for shows or sporting events. The sheer size of its Main Room also makes it an ideal location to host fairs and exhibitions for both the general public and the manufacturing sector.
