  5. 5. 5 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
  6. 6. 6 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1. THE IUIL AND THE OBSERVATOIRE DES COMPTENCES The Institut Universitaire International Luxembourg (IUIL) has for objective to support the economy by enhancing skills through training programmes and applied research projects close to the field. One of IUILs main projects is the Observatoire des Comptences whose objectives are: to identify technical and social skills required by employees within a particular Industry to propose an adaptation of the education and training supply 2. THE STUDY E-JOBS The thematic study e-jobs is part of the scope of the Observatoire des Competences and covers the areas of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and e-jobs in Luxembourg. The ICT sector can be defined as all companies that help produce and/or distribute these technologies, as well as those that provide services to facilitate their implementation. E-jobs regroup all jobs that were created following the emergence of the Internet. In Luxembourg, the ICT sector is strongly supported by the Luxembourg government (development of data centers, deployment of optical fiber, etc). At the European level, it is also considered one of the most promising sectors. This study aims to anticipate the skills needed for these "nascent" jobs and propose an adjustment of the training supply in order to support these new skills. To do this, the study was conducted in five stages: Creating an ICT economic profile in Luxembourg and a typology of e-jobs Designing a benchmarking of available trainings Conducting a qualitative study with employers in the ICT sector in Luxembourg Running prospective workshops with ICT stakeholders in Luxembourg Training recommendations 2.1 E-JOBS TYPOLOGY During the first stage, a typology composed of six families was proposed: Marketing, Communication and Business Intelligence Management, Quality, Testing and Security Infrastructure and Network Management IT Governance and IT Project Management User Assistance and Support Design, Development and Maintenance 2.2 TRAINING BENCHMARK The second stage showed that only the first three families (Marketing, Communication and Business Management, Quality, Testing and Security Infrastructure and Network Management) have a high potential for developments in training supply.
  7. 7. 7 2.3 STUDY The qualitative studys main results are the following: 2.4 PROSPECTIVE WORKSHOPS Following this study, three workshops were held to identify issues and actions to implement as well as identify e-jobs considered critical.
