Dear Parents, In the עשרת הדברות we are commanded to be מקדש שבת-keep

are עשרת הדברות holy. It is interesting to note that the שבת

listed twice in the תורה and there is a difference in the wording

about שבת. In פרשת יתרו it says, “זכור את יום השבת לקדשו”-

Remember to keep שבת holy, and in פרשת ואתחנן it says, שמור”

tell חכמים day holy. Our שבת Keep the -את יום השבת לקדשו“

us that ”זכור ושמור בדבור אחד“ - Miraculously, both were said simultaneously! What is the difference between the two, and why was it necessary to say both? We are told that in order to fulfill

the commandment of ”זכור“ -remember; we have to recite קידוש, dress in special clothing and eat delectable foods to remember the

sanctity of שבת. When we refrain from work and are careful not

to do anything forbidden on שבת, we are fulfilling ”שמור“ . The Dubno Maggid explains that a wealthy person will find it easy to purchase fine wines, beautiful clothing and celebrate in style. How-ever, since he may be involved with many business dealings and fi-nancial considerations, it is challenging for him to refrain from

On the other hand, someone who struggles .שבת on מלאכהfinancially will find it easier to forget about his business and ab-

stain from work, but will find it difficult to honor שבת with the appropriate food and celebration. Therefore, we are commanded both, in one breath; to teach us that both are equally important com-ponents of keeping שבת. When we “remember” שבת with

appropriate celebration and “keep” it by abstaining from מלאכה, we

will be זוכה to all the ברכה which ה‘ gives to those who are ” שומרי

“שבת וקוראי עונג .

This week, Ahuva Rosner came

Back! This week, we also finished

‘פרק ג in נביא and we’re almost

ready for our נביא test on

Tuesday! We got ice cream for

saying שירת חנה. We found out

about our Mother– Daughter בת

evening. We had a very fun מצוה

week, and are looking forward to

On ח“ר we had a play,

we sang לכה דודי, it was the hit of our

day!

The חידון in Edison was far away,

it turned out to be a very fun way.

ז“פרק י we finished and took a test,

and we all did our very best!

We had a raffle and switched our seats,

it was a very big treat.

the highlight of our week,

We had a super exciting week in

‘כתה א ! We started practicing for

our חומש play! We are so excited

finished all the ב-א ! We had so

much fun forming our letters out of

playdough! Can’t wait for another

exciting week!

When we met with kids

our age we never met

before and spoke to them

I think it was a very nice

experience for me to

have. The bus ride was a

lot of fun too.

Atara Schwartz - 7th

Grade

The thrill of watching my fellow

classmates compete against the

other school was amazing. It

was so much fun to cheer their

names and meet all the girls

from the other school. Those

pins we made were very cute! All

in all the bus ride was the most

fun!

Chani Besancon - 7th Grade

I really enjoyed the bus

ride and also seeing the

other school. I enjoyed

meeting my partners and

watching the חידון and

making the projects.

Seeing another

school made me ap-

preciate our school

even more.

My favorite part of the entire חידון,

was singing our song about TCS,

to Sharei Tzion.

Standing on those chairs with

great delight,

we presented our school’s dignity

without taking flight.

I’ll never forget this inter-school

competition,

but the אחדות was, the really real

mission.

Rivka Lieber - 6th Grade

I was nervous f or a whole week. Would

we win? Would we win 2nd place!? On

the bus, I felt like crying, I was soooo

nervous but as soon as I got there, I

knew it would be different - I was still

really nervous, but I knew it would be

okay. I felt myself relaxing as I heard

the rules and the best part , all the con-

testants got a slurpy! What I think

about it, it was awesome!! I really

think we should do it again. I hope we

really really, really do do it again

Shaina Bernstein - 6th Grade

Going to Shaarei Tzion in Edison

was fun. We got to meet the girls

in Sharei Tzion. We decorated

pins of TCS and YST. We each gave

each other a small treat. The

girls in the bee really knew their

things ! For lunch we had pizza

in their auditorium, When we

had the bee we played Connect

Four. Even if we didn’t win, we

still got along. Going to Edison

was fun.

Meira Rotstein- 6th grade

When I heard that I was being in the

I was very nervous. I thought there ,חידון

would be like a hundred questions and

we had to answer in full sentences etc.

Then it came time for me to go on stage.

Knowing that the whole school depended

on me was very stressful I thought that if

we didn’t win, nobody from school

would want to talk to me but then when

we won second place, the girls were still

really proud of me and told me that I

did a great job. Thank you Shaina and

Blimi for helping me study,

It was lots of fun to see an-

other school and getting to

know a few kids there. The

actual חידון was very

competitive and fun.

Even though we lost it was

still really fun being togeth-

er with the girls in Sharei

Tzion and making friends

with them. I also enjoyed

because it was very official

and something new.

This week we learned the halachos of kiddush. Remember:

• When making kiddush for someone else , he must have in mind that he is being יוצא other people.

• One must listen to the berachos and answer אמן in order to be יוצא

• Neither the person making kiddush nor the person listening to kiddush should talk before they drink wine

• The person reciting kiddush must drink a רביעית, which he should drink right away
