Témoigner du passé pour construire un avenir de paix Alors que nous quittent les témoins vivants de la 2nde guerre mondiale, les cérémonies commémoratives doivent devenir moments de mémoire éveillant la vigilance des nouvelles générations : « Le ventre est encore fécond d’où est sorti la bête immonde ». Bertolt Brecht. Les valeurs qui ont animé le Débarquement en Normandie en juin 1944 restent aujourd’hui toujours à défendre : la démocratie et la liberté contre le fascisme et le totalitarisme.– C’est aux Normands d’aujourd’hui de se réapproprier ce moment unique de l’Histoire.

Testify to the past in order to build a future of peace

While the living witnesses of World War II are leaving us, the commemorative ceremonies can become the memories

which awaken the vigilence of new generations. “The womb is still fertile, whence the vile beast was born" (Bertolt Brecht)

The values which drove the Normandy Landing in June 1944 must continue to remained today : democracy and liberty against fascism and totalitarianism.

So It is for the Normans of today to take over the retelling of that unique moment of History.

5th International University Choral Singing Meetings - IUCCM 2014 Caen and Normandy July 3rd - July 10th 2014

A project supported by the COUR of Caen, prepared during the year 2013-2014 by the regional school and adult driving forces. Concerts, open-air auditions, gatherings, two international evening performances, at the beginning and at the end of the period.

A common program linking Beethoven's message to an original creation which is on the making.

Ve Rencontres Internationales Universitaires de Chant Choral - RIUCC 2014 à Caen et en Basse-Normandie du 4 au 9 juillet 2014 Un projet porté par le Chœur & Orchestre Universitaire Régional de Caen Basse-Normandie préparé pendant l’année 2013-2014 par les forces vives scolaires et adultes de notre région. Des concerts, des auditions, des rencontres, deux soirées internationales en ouverture et clôture. Un programme commun associant le message de Beethoven à une composition originale en création.

of July 2014 Every day Free open-air auditions in Caen. Workshops on campus opened to music lovers. Concerts in Caen by one or two musical ensembles participating in the RIUCC. A regional concert by two musical ensembles participating in the RIUCC with the possibility of a free musical promotion

TWO MAIN EVENTS WITH ALL THE PARTICIPANTS AND COMMON WORKS Official opening night on the 4

th of July.

Anniversary of the liberation of Caen with a closing concert on the 9th

of July. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) A musician, a citizen amongst men : his music is a universal language bearing fraternity and joy ! Fantasia in C minor for piano, chorus and orchestra - op. 80 This Fantasia, on a text by C. Kuffner, is all about universal fraternity by the gathering of the arts, such as "the Ode to Joy" by Schiller. Instrumental variations on the main theme follow the introductive cadenza by the piano, then orchestral variations : allegro, adagio, alla marcia... The final chorus, in C major, leads to a thrilling bursting of joy. All these moments seem to link this Fantasia to the Ode to Joy of the 9th symphony. A commissioned composition in the writing by Manuel Lucas, a norman composer born in 1990 NormanD-Day - de la Mer, la Liberté... 1944, on the eve of the 6th of June, thousands of soldiers landed on the coasts of Normand to fight the abomination of fascism, to fight in the name of freedom and democracy... NormanD-Day : a symphonic picture with chorus highlighting the talents of young people including a youth choir and a regional chorus composed of people of all ages, participants to the Fifth International Gathering of University Choirs - Germany, UK, USA, Canada... and the Regional University Choir and Orchestra. Manuel Lucas, pianist, has graduated with honors at the Conservatoire of Caen. He has already composed a number of pieces, including many vocal works, and a "bassonist's concerto" which was first played in 2013.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A vocal ensemble is required (from a vocal quartet to a symphonic choir) but instrumental ensembles are accepted (string ensemble, wind quintet, brass orchestras).

Participation to the shared pieces and to the workshops. Accommodation may be possible on other dates (if warning is given soon enough).

Each ensemble is taken care of at its arrival in Caen. Registration fees : 50 euros per ensemble then 5 euros per day and per person

Including trips and accommodations in private homes or youth hostels

Deux temps forts exceptionnels regroupant l'ensemble des participants autour d’un programme commun Soirée d'ouverture officielle le 4 juillet & Journée anniversaire de la libération de Caen avec concert de clôture le 9 juillet.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)

Un musicien, un citoyen dans la cité des hommes : sa musique est un langage universel de fraternité, un langage porteur de joie ! Fantaisie en Ut mineur pour piano, soli, chœur et orchestre - opus 80

Cette Fantaisie sur un texte de C. Kuffner évoque la fraternité universelle par la rencontre des arts, tel « l’ode à la joie » de Schiller. A la cadence introductive au piano succèdent des variations instrumentales sur le thème principal puis des variations orchestrales : allegro, adagio, alla marcia….

Le chœur en ut majeur dans le final, conduit à une explosion de joie. Tout témoigne de la parenté évidente de cette Fantaisie avec l'Ode à la joie de la 9ème symphonie.

Une commande en création à Manuel Lucas, compositeur normand né en 1990 : NormanD-Day – de la Mer, la Liberté… À l’aube d’un certain 6 juin 1944, sur les côtes normandes, des milliers de soldats sont venus pour combattre l’ignominie du fascisme, combattre au nom de la liberté et de la démocratie…

NormanD-Day : Une fresque symphonique mettant en valeur les jeunes talents, un chœur d’enfants, un grand chœur régional de jeunes et adultes avec les participants aux Ves RIUCC –Allemagne, Royaume Uni, USA, Canada et le COUR en formation chœur et grand orchestre .

Manuel Lucas, prix de piano mention TB au Conservatoire de Caen, a plusieurs compositions à son actif, dont un concerto pour bassoniste créé en 2013 et de nombreuses pièces vocales.

Depuis 2009, il assiste Didier Horry à la direction du COUR.

Chaque jour Auditions publiques gratuites à Caen.

Workshops sur le campus ouvertes aux publics musiciens et mélomanes. Un ou deux ensemble(s) des RIUCC en concert à Caen.

Deux ensembles des RIUCC en concert régional avec possibilité d'affiches musicales gratuites.

Les conditions générales de participation Formation vocale souhaitée/ Formation instrumentale possible.

Du quatuor au grand chœur / ensemble de cordes ; quintette à vent ; ensemble de cuivres. Participation aux œuvres communes, aux workshops.

Possibilité de séjour sur une autre période. Chaque ensemble est pris en charge à son arrivée à Caen.

Frais : inscription 50€ et 5€ / jour / personne pour la durée du séjour. Inclus déplacements et hébergement complet en familles ou Auberge de jeunesse.

Le Chœur & Orchestre Universitaire Régional de Caen Basse-Normandie une association estudiantine dirigée par Didier Horry avec à ses côtés aujourd’hui Manuel Lucas un lieu de pratique musicale sans sélection, ouvert, convivial, international un témoignage du dynamisme culturel de l’université de Caen au sein de sa région, la Normandie.

Un lieu d’accueil et de formation Activité volontaire, le COUR permet aux étudiants de l’Université de Caen de découvrir ou de poursuivre une activité musicale pendant leurs études. Avec plus de 150 adhérents chaque année, le COUR organise des répétitions hebdomadaires, des week-ends de formation, des échanges locaux, nationaux ou internationaux

A place of welcome and training In voluntary musical activities belong to voluntary cultural activities,

the COUR allows students of Caen University to discover or continue a musical activity during their studies.

More than 150 members may have weekly rehearsals, formation week-ends, local or national or international exchanges

Un lieu de production et de diffusion Le COUR se produit en formations variées sur les sites de l'Université, dans de nombreuses communes, tant au niveau régional que national. Il travaille avec le public scolaire et aussi avec des structures musicales régionales et mène depuis de longues années une politique d'échanges internationaux : le public normand a pu découvrir de nombreuses formations étrangères. Le COUR s’est produit en Europe, en Amérique du Nord et au Japon.

A place of production and diffusion The COUR gives performances in diverse ensembles on the University spots,

in many towns on a regional or national level. It maintains active partnership with school public

and also with regional musical structures. For many years, it has also run a policy of international exchanges.

Normandy public has discovered many foreign groups. The COUR traveled in Europe, North America and Japan.
