EVENTS As usual, the festival offers an arena full of concerts featuring music from the Renaissance, Baroque and beyond with fourteen grand and intimate concerts as well as free, street events, a musical parade, café concerts, an instrument fair and a marathon, all in a celebratory mood to mark the 15 th anniversary of this unusual, creative festival! Let's celebrate Montreal's 375th, Canada's 150th, the Reformation's 500th, Monteverdi's 450th, the Festival's

15th and the 220th of the circus in Montreal!

INSPIRATION Ricketts Circus opened in Montreal in 1797 to the general delight of all! Matthias Maute and Susie Napper have created a festival programme inspired by the idea of a marriage of music and the circus: a vaudeville of viols, twirling traversos, sopranos on stilts, the magic of Monteverdi and a balancing act with Bach!

EVENTS As usual, the festival offers an arena full of concerts featuring music from the Renaissance, Baroque and beyond with fourteen grand and intimate concerts as well as free, street events, a musical parade, café concerts, an instrument fair and a marathon, all in a celebratory mood to mark the 15thanniversary of this unusual, creative festival!

VENUES The festival will take place in Old Montreal and right downtown around the Quartier des Spectacles at the Agora des Sciences, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC), UQAM's Salle Polyvalente, the Church of St. John the Evangelist and the amazing Notman House.

GRAND CONCERTS Thursday 22 June: 7pm Ensemble Caprice Vertigo! To celebrate Monteverdi's 450th with Ensemble Caprice Ringmaster Maute will open the festival circus with a spectacular, surround-sound performance of Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine! Sunday 25 June: 7pm World première! La Bande Montréal Baroque, dir. Eric Milnes TOURS DE FORCE: Althea, the opera Bach never wrote We might conjecture that, had he not been a church musician, Bach might well, like his contemporaries, have been an opera composer! A brilliant Bruce Haynes' idea, Althea features a high priestess, a king, a princess, a lover, an imposter and a sea monster! A bi-lingual opera seria in three short acts with dramatic music by J.S.
