January 19, 2020 – 32nd Sunday after Pentecost From the Desk of the Pastor…

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

This weekend we will have our general parish meeting. It will take place in the church

between the two Sunday Liturgies at 10am.

Parish meetings are important. I did not call it with any particular agenda or plan. I

simply called for it because such meetings are an open forum during which people can

share their ideas/concerns/hopes about our spiritual family, this parish. It is a time when

questions and answers are exchanged. This exchange is important because everyone

learns a bit more about our parish. As pastor I see things from a pastor’s perspective,

but general meetings help me to see things from the perspective of you my flock. This

is important to me.

Having two parishes is not always easy. Sometimes both parishes feel a bit neglected.

I would like to know ways in which I can better serve you as a priest. So, please, don’t

be shy. The last time we had a general parish meeting I was impressed by how well

people expressed themselves, with both precision and dignity. So far, four questions

have been submitted in writing. I will answer those questions. If there are other

questions, please try to get them to me before the 10am general meeting so that I can

give those questions the focus they deserve.

At the start of this letter I wrote that I don’t have any particular agenda for the meeting.

There is a hope on my part, I confess, to hearing from you about the proposed

iconography work which is needed in the sanctuary. Other than that, I come with an

open heart and mind. Our parish is well-situated to grow in many directions, and this

thought causes me a lot of excitement. At a time when many parishes are shrinking,

Christ has blessed us through the prayers of His Mother with new faces in our pews.

What can we do to make our parish into a glorious antechamber leading people into the

wedding chambers of the Bridegroom?

In Christ,

Jason, priest and sinner

Sunday Gospel Reading Gospel According to St. Luke 18:35-43

35 As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside

begging; 36 and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this

meant. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 And he cried,

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 And those who were in front

rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of

David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be

brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, 41 “What do you want

me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me receive my sight.” 42 And Jesus said

to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately

he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when

they saw it, gave praise to God.

Events at Holy Trinity ☛ Time for House Blessings! Between January 6th and February 1st Fr. Jason will

be available to bless your home. Call the office 279-4652 to schedule a particular

time or Fr. Jason may call you when he’s in your area. Why are

house blessings important? House blessings are important

because homes are important and Holy Water is important. Our

homes are important because in them we live and it is precisely

where we live that we encounter most of our spiritual warfare.

Spiritual warfare takes in various forms: evil thoughts, sinful

habits, temptations that come about through association with

places, dates, things or people. God gives us weapons to aid us

toward victory in the spiritual battle. The Holy Mysteries of the

Eucharist and Repentance are key. Also, God give us His own

Mother, Mary, as an ally in the war. He gives us the inspired Scriptures in the Holy

Bible, with which we can pray and use for our growth in holiness and knowledge.

Finally, He also give us blessed items into which He pours the power of His Most Holy

Spirit, that when used with faith (not magic) can drive out evil powers which seek to

reap havoc and evil in our lives. Thus, we sprinkle our homes with Holy Water during

the time of Theophany. As the Father sent the Spirit upon the Son, so too may He send

the Spirit upon us to purify our hearts and defend our homes.

☛ We will be doing an adult parish trip to the movies *Thursday* Jan. 23rd at

7pm at the Cinemark in Robinson to see the movie Blind Eyes Opened which is “a

first-of-a-kind Christian documentary that dives deep into the sex trafficking industry in the U.S.

The film exposes the darkness that fuels demand, highlights survivors' transformations through

Christ, engages lawmakers, law enforcement, organizations, ministries and experts across the

country committed to ending the atrocities, all while showing Christ as the hope for all involved.”

This movie will not be easy to watch but it will impact, educate and inspire with a

message of hope. Come support the film, it will be in theaters one day only! Buy tickets

and watch the trailer online here: https://www.fathomevents.com/events/blind-eyes-

opened. This film represents a big step for our culture and for those trying

to curb the problem of sexual exploitation (particularly of minors in our

country). To have something like this in theaters across the country is a

major victory! We will leave from Holy Trinity at 6:30 pm. Please RSVP

to Matt Ketcham 720-556-7491.

☛ MEN’S NIGHT – will be on Thursday Jan. 30th at 7:30 pm. Location TBD – please

contact Matt Ketcham at 720-556-7491 for more info. Come join us for prayer,

fellowship and drinks! Please text/see Matthew to RSVP.

☛ This Saturday we will begin a regular weekly evening Vespers service. The time

will be 7:30 pm in the Church. After each service we will have snacks/beverages and

Apologetics classes. To this end, please borrow the new Apologetics books at entrance.

Return when done reading and borrow a new book. So much to learn, so little time!

☛On Sunday, January 19th, between the two Liturgies, our parish will hold a

General Meeting. This is an opportunity to share your ideas about our parish’s future,

what is in need of improvement, what is coming along well, what is uncertain, what

needs to change, what needs to stay the same. Concerns, ideas, questions, complaints

are all welcome. They can be submitted anonymously by being placed in a blank

envelope in the collection basket when it comes around during Liturgy. Or, they can be

shared at the meeting itself. Further ideas? E-mail [email protected]

Reminders & Notes

☛ Parents, you have been given a great responsibility! That responsibility is to do

everything in your power to get your children into heaven. If they attend secular

schools, then make sure your children are getting the Truth via good religious

education. That can take place at home or at the parish. Choosing to deprive your

children of religious instruction is a grave act of neglect. The secular school system

does not fail to instruct your children in the values of a godless worldview. Neither

should you neglect to instruct your children in a Christ-centered world view.

Which world-view is going to win your child’s heart? Add up the hours per week

and see which of the two world-views is getting the upper hand.

☛ Free! Two leather couches in excellent condition are available from a

parishioner. Talk to Pani Halyna for more information. Help with delivery is also

possible.

☛ Our website is in the process of being updated so make sure to check

it out to see all of our events and keep in touch with us online:

☛ Your parish provided a foundation to you in life, providing for your spiritual and

moral growth. Please remember our parish in your Last Will & Testament. The wording

to do this is as follows: “I give and bequeath to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic

Church, Carnegie, __% of the residue of my estate [or: the sum of $____].” You can

direct your bequest in any way you wish: it can go towards iconography in the church

interior, a chandelier for our church, toward missionary activity so that we spread the

faith, toward a Catholic educational fund for young women or young men in the parish,

toward church gardening expenses, toward the upkeep of our beautiful cemetery, your

funds can be designated in any way you wish.

☛ “We must pray without tiring, for the salvation of mankind does not depend on

material success; nor on sciences that cloud the intellect. Neither does it depend on

arms and human industries, but on Jesus alone.” --St Frances Xavier Cabrini

Do you desire to learn how to pray with the Sacred Scriptures? Are you interested in

following the Church’s Scripture plan throughout the Liturgical year? Please take a

card in the back of the Church with the current month’s

Scripture readings on it as well as instructions on how to do Lectio

Divina. This is an ancient method of prayer that is used to encounter

the living God in His Word. You can use these cards as a bookmark

in your Bible to pray with the readings each day. Questions on this:

call Matt Ketcham at 720-556-7491.
