1.0 Introduction

This third year work assessment report is being submitted on behalf of license holder

Steven Barrett of 7 Samson Street, Mount Pearl, NL, A1N 4A8 and details fieldwork completed

on Mineral License 9517M from May 14, 2006 to July 5, 2006. The mineral license

encompasses ten map-staked claims located on NTS Map Sheet 1:50,000 12A/06 and forms a

part of the Horn Property, south central Newfoundland. The Horn Property is comprised of a

number of mineral licenses held by various stakeholders.

This report mainly covers fieldwork which consisted of prospecting, geological mapping

and a B-Horizon soil survey by North Range Resources Ltd. of P.O. Box 385, Clarke’s Beach,

NL A0A 1W0, a 40 km cut grid followed by a Induced Polarization survey contracted out by

North Range Resources Limited.

This report also entails compilations completed by Project Geologist Kimberly Janes

employed by North Range Resources Limited. The work report and expenditures are submitted

to satisfy the 3rd year expenditures stipulated at $1,323.01 to be expended by May 20, 2006 and

listed on the current Mineral Rights Database System Report (Appendix I).

2.0 Location and Access

Mineral License 9517M, forming a part of the Horn Property, is situated in south-central

Newfoundland, 65 km east-southeast of the town of Buchans on NTS Map Sheet 12A/06 (Figure

1). The mineral license of interest is located in the northeast portion of the Horn Property, which

also comprises Mineral Licenses 9508M and 9775M.

The property, and in particular 9517M, can be accessed via 65 kilometers of well-kept

forestry road of Abitibi Consolidated that extends from Buchans and runs on the north side of

Page 8: gis.geosurv.gov.nl.cagis.geosurv.gov.nl.ca/geofilePDFS/WBox032/012A_1353.pdf · suggest that gabbroic rocks of the Annieopsquotch Ophiolite might underlie the area. Figure 3: Tectonostratigraphic

5Red Indian Lake, which connects with the Burgeo Highway, west of the property. The centre of

the property is accessed via five kilometres of a secondary forest road, which extends south of

Lloyds Lake and into the Tulks River valley east of the property. The license area contains

several logging roads networking through the property area.

3.0 License Description

Mineral License 9517M comprises ten (10) map-staked claims totalling 627.5 acres (254

hectares) in the area of western Newfoundland (Figure 2). The northeast corner of the mineral

license is situated at UTM coordinates 5360000N - 467000E with an approximate centre at UTM

intersection point 5359500N - 466000E. In addition, the license also shares coterminous

boundaries with Mineral 9775M.

The deposition of the mineral license is shown in Figure 2 and detailed descriptions are

presented on the Mineral Rights Database System Report dated July 17, 2006 and accessed on

the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources website (Appendix I).

4.0 Physiography

The region encompassing the Horn Property is located on the northwest side of the

Annieopsquotch Mountains reaching elevations ranging up to 600 meters. The property is

characterized by hilly terrain, sloping predominately to the northeast along gentle to moderate

slopes. The extreme relief is in the north section of the property where the hill tops slope along

moderate east facing, and steep west facing slopes into Lloyd’s Lake.

The area has been extensively logged by Abitibi Consolidated, resulting in large swaths

of cutover, punctuated by isolated stands of unharvested, mixed softwood and hardwood forest.

Page 10: gis.geosurv.gov.nl.cagis.geosurv.gov.nl.ca/geofilePDFS/WBox032/012A_1353.pdf · suggest that gabbroic rocks of the Annieopsquotch Ophiolite might underlie the area. Figure 3: Tectonostratigraphic

6The logging operations created numerous tractor and skidder roads/trails, which link into a

network of gravel roads used for transporting the harvested timber.

A parallel drainage pattern of the third and fourth order streams drain into a second order

river which flows north through the entire Horn Property draining into the Lloyd’s Lake, main

drainage system. Many, less than 500 meter long ponds provide the main watershed and are

scattered throughout the property area.

Outcrop is scattered throughout the property and is best exposed along the river and

stream valleys, and along the roads exposed by the earlier road construction for the timber

harvesting operations. Several outcrop exposures occur as ridges in bog and wooded areas in the

southern and western sections of the property. The second order river valley is moderately

incised and in certain areas exposed abundant outcrop, whereas the other smaller streams

generally occupy low channel ways with limited exposure.

5.0 Previous Work

In 1934, Hans Lundberg discovered gold, silver, and base metal mineralization in the area

of Pat’s Pond Brook during a cross-island canoe expedition while prospecting the A.N.D.

Charter Lands for ASARCO. These discoveries consisted of boulders of sphalerite, boulangerite

with high grade gold and silver values ranging up to 1.02 oz/t gold, 36 oz/t silver, 12.5% zinc,

and 7.5% lead. The northeast corner of the Horn Property was the focus of his work and the

location of the mineralized boulders.

In 1981, the property area was included in an extensive regional exploration program

over central Newfoundland conducted by Abitibi-Price. Abitibi constructed a 700 meter by 400

meter grid in the area of Mineral License 9517M and in their 1981 work report, referenced

various work phases including soil, VLF-EM and magnetic surveys together with four diamond

drill holes, which were shallow and drilled to a maximum depth of 55 meters in one hole.

8 In 2001, the owners of the property collected several mineralized samples, which

yielded anomalous values in lead, zinc, silver, and bismuth ranging up to 3.40% lead, 11.5%

zinc, 647 g/t silver and 0.16% bismuth.

In May 2003, Paul Crocker and Steve Barrett staked two mineral licenses to cover a

portion of what is now the Horn Property. Initial prospecting during the summer of 2003,

principally by Crocker discovered a train of angular to sub angular, intensely sulphide

mineralized quartz boulders along a section of a stream (Pat’s Brook), which drains through the

property. These boulders, up to 1-1.5 tonnes, contain high-grade base metals (zinc, lead

copper) and precious metals (silver-gold) accompanied by elevated cadmium, bismuth, and

arsenic, resembling the Buchans ores, to the north, and also similar to the new discovery by

Messina Minerals just several kilometers northeast of the new discoveries by Crocker. Based on

these discoveries the prospecting group revisited the property in September and conducted

further sampling with positive results, which resulted in staking an additional license.

In 2004, North Range Resources Limited conducted an exploration program, which

consisted of detailed prospecting, sample collection and analyses during a four day prospecting

and VLF-EM geophysics program. In June 2005, fieldwork consisted by prospecting and

sampling surveys over the property area. These surveys were designed to source the high grade,

zinc enriched, polymetallic, quartz vein hosted float mineralization discovered by previous

workers. This field program involved the collection of several rock and B-horizon soil samples.

In September 2005, a two-day prospecting traverse was conducted on the property to

determine the location of trenching carried out within the area explored by Abitibi in 1981.

These trenches were not located.

6.0 Regional Geology

Geologically, the island of Newfoundland is part of the Appalachian Mountain Belt (or

Orogenic Belt) and can be subdivided into four main tectonostratigraphic zones; Humber,

Dunnage, Gander, and Avalon Zones (Williams, 1979). The property area is situated within the

Dunnage Zone (Figure 3).

The Humber Zone consists of ploy-deformed Precambrian Grenville Province aged

crystalline basement rocks and uncomformably overlies deformed Paleozoic continental margin

rocks (Williams, 1979). The Humber Zone is interpreted to represent the ancient continental

margin, Laurentia, of eastern North America. In contrast, the Dunnage Zone constitutes the

Paleozoic mobile belt consisting of oceanic rocks including sections of oceanic crust and island

arc-related rocks interpreted to represent juvenile oceanic rocks formed during the creation and

destruction of the Paleozoic Iapetus Ocean (the precursor to the Atlantic Ocean) (Williams,

1979). The Baie Verte-Brompton Line, characterized by a zone of intense deformation and

variably preserved ophiolite suites marks the boundary between the Humber and Dunnage Zones

(Williams and St-Julien, 1982). Obducted ophiolite suites located west of the Baie Verte-

Brompton Line (e.g. Bay of Islands complex) are interpreted to have rooted into the Baie Verte-

Brompton Line (Williams and St-Julien, 1982).

7.0 Property Geology

The property is located in the southwestern portion of the Victoria Lake Group and is

underlain mainly by ophiolite mafic volcanic and intrusive rocks of the Annieopsquotch

Complex (Figure 4). In 1975 and 1976, mapping carried out by B.F. Kean in the Victoria Lake

map sheet (12A/06) identified the area as being underlain by volcanic rocks of the Victoria Lake

Group, which is locally intruded by Devonian diorites and gabbros. This was later revised to

suggest that gabbroic rocks of the Annieopsquotch Ophiolite might underlie the area.

8.0 Work Description and Discussion of Results

The work completed during the third year report period was conducted by employees of

North Range Resources Limited or by independent companies contracted by North Range. The

project was supervised by Project Geologist, Kimberley Janes, who was also responsible for all

report, figure, and map compilations.

During May to July 2006, geology, geophysics, and line-cutting crews mobilized to the

property area to conduct an extensive exploration program on the Horn Property, including

Mineral License 9517M. The work program consisted of line-cutting, prospecting, geological

mapping, geochemical, and geophysical surveys with the majority of the work conducted over

the mineral license.

8.1 Line Cutting

During May to July 2006, geology, geophysics, and line-cutting crews mobilized to the

property area to conduct an extensive exploration program on the Horn Property, which included

Mineral License 9517M. The work program consisted by line-cutting, prospecting, geological

mapping, geochemistry and geophysics surveys with the majority of the work conducted over

Mineral License 9517M.

The line-cutting program, conducted from May 16 to June 4, was contracted to Andrews

Exploration of Kings Point, NL and involved the mobilization of four-man crews to the property

from Springdale, NL. The gridding included 40 line kilometres on the northeast portion of the

Horn Property with approximately 29 kilometres covering Mineral License 9517M (Figure 5).

Page 17: gis.geosurv.gov.nl.cagis.geosurv.gov.nl.ca/geofilePDFS/WBox032/012A_1353.pdf · suggest that gabbroic rocks of the Annieopsquotch Ophiolite might underlie the area. Figure 3: Tectonostratigraphic

148.2 Induced Polarization Geophysical Survey

Upon completion of the line-cutting program, Eastern Geophysics Limited of Corner

Brook, NL was contracted to conduct an Induced Polarization geophysical survey over the

gridded area. The IP survey, conducted intermittently from May 16 to mid July, involved the

mobilization of three and four-man crews to the property from both Corner Brook and

Springdale areas. Approximately 26.7 kilometres was surveyed on Mineral License 9517M.

The geophysical interpretation of the IP pseudo-sections will be contracted to an independent

qualified person (Figure 5, Appendix II). (Please note that some of the Pseudo Sections are still

pending from Eastern Geophysics and upon receipt will be forwarded for appending to this

report).

8.3 Geochemistry

A geology/prospecting crew employed by North Range mobilized to the property on May

10-13 to conduct and extensive geological mapping/prospecting and geochemical survey of the

property and including the gridded area. The geochemical survey conducted over Mineral

License 9517M involved the collection of approximately 599 B-Horizon soil samples at 25 and

50 meter intervals dependent upon areas of interest (i.e. known areas of mineralization or

structure) (Figure 6, Appendix III). Note: assay certificates for 61 soil samples pending.

The soil samples, analyzed for ICP-30 at Eastern Analytical Limited, Springdale, NL,

yielded anomalous values in silver, lead, zinc, cadium, arsenic, manganese, barium, copper and

iron ranging up to 4.4 ppm Ag, 1641 ppm Pb, 705 ppm Zn, 14.7 ppm Cd, >2200 ppm Mn, >550

ppm Ba, 978 ppm Cu and >10% Fe (Appendix IV). The soil assay results were contoured,

displaying corresponding anomalous regions over the property. Based on the soil anomalies,

approximately 88 soil samples were subsequently selected for Au analysis and returned four

anomalous values of 61, 101, 1886 and 2169 ppb (Figure 7, Appendix IV).

15 A total of seven stream sediment samples were collected along Branch #2 of Pat’s

Brook with values ranging up to >550 Ba, >10% Fe, 239 ppm Zn, and >2200 ppm Mn (Figure 8,

Appendix IV).

198.4 Geology and Prospecting

Crews employed by North Range Resources conducted initial reconnaissance prospecting

and geological mapping between May 12-June 1 and detailed mapping of the gridded area from

May 22 - July 5. All brooks, stream systems, and grid lines were prospected and mapped with

field visits to previous mineral occurrences and known areas of interest.

The Pat’s Brook area displayed numerous outcrops consisting of gabbro-diorite with

granitic dykes and quartz boulders. The western portion of the mineral license consists of coarse

to fine grained gabbro, coarse diorite and very fine grained, intensely foliated, dark green mafic

(which may represent an intensely altered gabbro). The rock units on the property display

varying degrees of alteration and foliation with alteration assemblages consisting of silica +

chlorite ± carbonate ± sericite ± epidote, which may be attributed to the complex structure in the

region related to a series of thrust faults (i.e. the Red Indian Line).

The geology on the eastern portion of the property also includes the dark green, fine

grained, altered mafic as well as a tuffaceous unit. The southeast portion of the grid displays

intense quartz veining representing stockwork of unmineralized, milky white, veining ranging

from 0.5-30 cm thick and striking ~047. The host rock is a very fine grained, light to dark green

mafic with chlorite and sericite alteration. The structure of the veins displays en echelon and

isoclinal folding, vein offset and boxwork. The overall geological units on the property display

trace up to 4% disseminated py+po+cpy.

Field visits were conducted in all previous areas of interest including the initially

discovered quartz veining in the brook. All the mineralized quartz veining consists of smokey

grey quartz and exhibiting intense limonite staining with base metal mineralization. There

appears to be at least two generations of quartz veining on the property with the mineralized

quartz veining being independent to the quartz stockwork in the southeast, which may be a

function of tectonism due to the close proximity to the Red Indian Line. The mineralized veins

may be trending 50-70 through the centre of the property.

Page 24: gis.geosurv.gov.nl.cagis.geosurv.gov.nl.ca/geofilePDFS/WBox032/012A_1353.pdf · suggest that gabbroic rocks of the Annieopsquotch Ophiolite might underlie the area. Figure 3: Tectonostratigraphic

20 A large suite of outcrop and boulder samples were collected for both research and

assaying with ~40 samples selected for ICP-30 + Au (Note: not all samples collected were

assayed, and currently, some results are pending). Numerous boulders samples collected from

Pat’s Brook consisted of dominantly mineralized quartz and sheared mineralized mafics. A 10

cm wide quartz boulder collected from the Pat’s Brook (Branch #1) assayed 8.9g/t Au (KH-

11R). A small quartz boulder from Branch #2 of Pat’s Brook displaying galena, sphalerite, and

pyrite assayed 1.09% Pb, 0.74% Zn, and 411.0g/t Ag (JH-24R). Other boulder samples yielded

up to 0.49% Pb, 1.25% Zn and 30.5 g/t Ag (Figure 9, Appendix III-IV).

The geology crew visited a previously discovered, large mineralized quartz vein, which is

located in the brook in the central region of the property (drilled by Abitibi in 1981). Several

samples were collected for assaying in attempt to duplicate previous base metal values. Sample

JH-05R returned values ranging up to 1.04% Pb, 1.04% Zn, and 274 g/t Ag.

A 0.3 m altered quartz vein situated at the northern extent of Pat’s Brook (UTM

465173E/5359751N) consisted of disseminated po+py+aspy sulphide mineralization. The assay

results returned values of >2200 As, 931 ppm Zn and 712 ppm Pb (Sample GH-16R).

A 0.3 to 0.8 m wide quartz vein (new discovery?) located on the southern extent of grid

lines 11E and 12E (466041E/5359031N) consists of dull white smokey grey quartz with limonite

staining and 2% disseminated to local semi-massive concentrations of sulphide mineralization of

sphalerite (blackjack), galena, chalcopyrite and pyrite. This vein appears to be striking 055

along trend with known mineralized quartz veins elsewhere on the property (assays pending).

A 0.75 m quartz vein (new discovery?) located on L15 (UTM 466413E/5359505N)

exhibits rusty limonite staining and consist of smokey grey quartz with patch sulphide

mineralization of up to 15% locally. The mineralization consists of galena, pyrite, sphalerite

(blackjack) as wispy bands and disseminations (assays pending).

Currently, exploration is ongoing on the property with all results and work conducted to

date considered as positive progress.
