POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT (TOURISM AND TRAVEL)(PGDM – TT)

PGDM (Tourism and Travel) programme has been developed to meet the growingdemand for skilled and resourceful managers in this rapidly expanding tourism industry. Theprogramme of study aims at preparing graduates for taking up employment in a businessorganisation or self employment and / or carrying forward their family businesses. Learnerswould understand the need for different management approaches for different types oftourism; discuss the role of tourism as an agent for cultural change and understanding; and,assess the specific characteristics and trends in emerging specialist areas of the tourism

industry (e.g. festivals, events, heritage, wellness tourism and other new markets).Subsequently they will be working in, or aspire to, careers in all aspects of the internationaltourism industry, which may include government tourism agencies, tour operators, airlines,cultural heritage, festival, wellness and/or other specialist tourism operations.

The objectives of this programme of study are to understand the broad political,economic and social frameworks within which tourism management takes place, appreciate thecomplex relationships between visitors and destination management, evaluate the tools andtechniques that are used for developing and managing tourism in a range of environments,enable young learners to develop a business sense and sensitise them to nuances in servicescenario and equip and enable learners to start a new business venture. Accordingly, theprogramme has a large component of working in real world situations under the carefulguidance of mentors.

This is an intensive study programme of two academic sessions. The programme shall bedivided into four semesters and there shall be an examination at the end of each semester.There are three taught semesters and fourth semester of internship. Each semester shallcomprise of credits equivalent to nine courses, each of three hours per week, with equivalentteaching obligation and equal amount of self study.Dual specialization would be available tostudents in any two out of Airfares and Ticketing, Air Cargo Operations and Management, TourOperations and Marketing.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT (SERVICES)(PGDM – S)

Service sector, today, is the largest contributor to gross domestic product in India. Aseconomy strengthens both service sectors (tourism, healthcare, retailing, education, IT,hospitality, etc.) and service components of manufacturing and agriculture sector would

increasingly become important. This growth has resulted in a sharp rise in employability andpaying capacity of these sectors. More jobs are created and job demand and supply gap hasincreased, calling for more trained human-power to occupy these jobs. This programme ofIITTM focuses on management of service sectors. The programme of study aims at preparinggraduates for taking up employment in a business organisation or self employment and/or

carrying forward their family businesses. Learner would be able to specialise simultaneously inone functional elective area and also in one sectoral elective of his / her choice and subject toavailability of such courses at the centre.

The main objectives of this programme of study are to enable young learners to developa business acumen and sensitise them to nuances of service scenarios, learn principles andpractice of management especially for the service sector companies and equip and enablelearners to start new business ventures. Accordingly, the programme has a large component ofworking in real world situations under the careful guidance of mentors.

Admission is being offeredfor 93 seats in the programme. Dual specialisation would be available to students in Marketing,Human Resource Management or Finance; and Tourism and Hospitality Management, orFinancial Services.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT (INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS)(PGDM – IB)

The prime objective of this programme is to develop a global way of thinking- a valuableasset and an important skill for all businesses today. IITTM’s International Tourism Business(PGDM-IB) programme is unique among international management programmes because wefocus on preparing our graduates to be global tour leaders who possess a deep knowledge ofthe intercultural sensitivity and skill to handle both out bound and inbound tourists. Mentoredby Thomas Cook (India) Ltd ., PGDM-IB programme provides learners with international as wellas general business skills, and an opportunity for hands on experience. With IITTM’s corecompetence in tourism and travel-the largest global industry today, we prepare learners forthis. They will also be equipped with skills transferable to other sectors of global businesses. Intimes when companies must spend each rupee judiciously it has become increasingly importantfor tourism companies to hire managers/executives who are trained to be relevant to theirrequirements. At PGDM (IB) we believe that for graduates to be worth the employers’ money,they need to be trained/ educated in a manner that they may contribute from day one to thecompany by creating value for their customers and company. We believe that the only way outis to offer a programme working closely with industry, so that it produces learners who are ofimmediate use for the tourism companies. Business) programme includes state-of-the-art course in Medical Tourism, TravelDocumentation, Sustainable Tourism, Volunteer Tourism, Intercultural Management, On-the- job Training, among others.

On completion of the programme, a learner shall be able to appreciate nuances of

international tourism business, manage tours, both inbound and out bound, must be able tohelp the employing company with design of products and selling them, raising andmanagement of tourism enterprises and prepare for international tourism businesses with skillstransferable to other international businesses. Accordingly, the programme has a largecomponent of working in real world situations under the careful guidance of mentors.

This is an intensive study programme of two academic sessions. The programme shall bedivided into four semesters and there shall be an examination at the end of each semester.Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. shall allow four months paid internship after the fourth semester.Each semester shall comprise of credits equivalent to nine courses, each of three hours perweek equivalent teaching obligation and equal amount of self study. Separate (additional)certification by Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. Opportunity for other concurrent certifications.Admission to programme is being offered for 93 seats at Gwalior. Programme envisagesstudents to travel extensively, inside and outside of the country, for training and practicalexposure. Learners of this programme are expected to financially support these activities.Approximate expenses would be Rs. 1.1 lakhs in addition to the regular fees for theprogramme.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PROGRAMMES __________________________________________________________________________

Candidates seeking admission to the PGDM programme shall be required to possess abachelor’s degree (10+2+3 pattern) in an y discipline of a University or equivalentthereto with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/ PH).

Reservation for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and physically challenged candidates willbe applicable as per Govt. of India rules.

Physically challenged candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates appearing for the final examination of graduation are also eligible to apply,

provided they complete it with requisite grade / percentage of marks by October 31,2014.

In case the candidate fails to establish eligibility by this date, the admission would becancelled and fees will be forfeited.

FEE STRUCTURE FOR DIFFERENT PROGRAMMES* __________________________________________________________________________

IITTM has a modest fee regime. The fee is payable at the beginning of each semester. Theinclusions in the fees are described as following:

First Semester: Admission fee, tuition fee, students’ welfare, sports, cultur al activities,library and computer, examination fee, insurance cover, caution money deposit (Rs. 5,000),etc. Fees for PGDM (TT) and PGDM (TL) programmes include a study tour for them.

SCHOLARSHIP AND FREESHIP __________________________________________________________________________

Students of IITTM can avail of government scholarships offered by various agencies to

students of different categories. More than 100 students benefit from these scholarships everyacademic session. Besides these scholarships, IITTM offers freeship to one boy and one girlfrom each group for the semester that they score the highest grade (Rules of the instituteapplicable). A number of medals and prizes have also been instituted with generous supportfrom industry.

FACILITIES AND ACTIVITIES __________________________________________________________________________

IITTM centres have state-of the art infrastructure that supports a learning environment.Classes are equipped with state of the art technology. Given our collection and access to onlinedatabases our libraries are considered the best for tourism. Students have campus-wide accessto internet.

INFRASTRUCTURE:The administrative block, the focal point of all activities is complemented bywell equipped classrooms, library and computer lab.

LIBRARY:As an indispensable organ in the academic enterprise, the Library provide the IITTMcommunity with the information resources and services fundamental to learning and the

pursuit of knowledge. It is one of the resourceful library, one of its kind in travel and tourismeducation in India. The collection consists of books on tourism, management, informationtechnology and varied subjects, reports, conference souvenirs, previous volumes of periodicals,CD-ROMs. The Library also includes a reference collection consists of Encyclopedias,Dictionaries and collection of classics of World literature.

COMPUTER LAB: The Computer Center equips students with necessary skills to be employed inan information- intensive work environment. The faculty members, students and staff are

provided with a networked node to access digital technologies .The Computer Centre isequipped with generic softwares packages like SPSS, Flash, Ms-Office, Tally and also industryspecific softwares among which Amadeus, Sabre and Galileo are widely used by students.In addition, internet facitlity is provided to the faculty and students for academic purpose.

AUDITORIUM: The institute has got a newly built, fully equipped indoor auditorium with acapacity of 350. All major lectures by eminent experts and academicians and cultural functionsare organized in the auditorium.

HOSTEL COMPLEX:A fully furnished residential complex ensconced in the institute campus withall modern facilities supplements the academic infrastructure. Two separate hostels for boysand girls have a cumulative capacity of 120 beds. The institute also maintains a small guesthouse in the campus, including fully furnished AC rooms.

SPORTS & YOGA FACILITIES:The institute has fully equipped indoor sports facilities for tabletennis, billiards etc. It also has provision for outdoor games such as cricket, volley ball etc.

LECTURE HALLS:IITTM has fully equipped lecture halls for its courses. The faculties, both in-house and visiting can avail the OHP & LCD facilities for their teaching purposes. The studentsuse these facilities as well for the purpose of their report presentations, power pointpresentations and case study analysis.

LIFE @ IITTM: IITTM constantly endeavors to groom young enthusiastic Managers. The institutetakes full care to arm them with all the firepower necessary to take on the corporate world. Tochisel every aspect of the individual's personality, various activities are carried out so that the

individual not only sharpens skills but infuses the qualities that are indispensable for futureManagers. Each year students participate in the i nstitute’s various cultural events, sports meet,literary and social activities. Apart from annual function celebrations such activities are carriedout throughout the year.

DISHA (THE MANAGEMENT VECTOR): Disha develops the capability to win over one's own;helps in a journey where dreams become the guide. It attempts to help these makers of to taketheir learning beyond the classroom environment by organizing different events and festivals. Italso provides a means for the students to give expression to their interest and showcase theirimmense talents in non-academic fields. Disha nurtures number of clubs under its umbrella. Aglimpse on the clubs is provided of the activities that students of IITTM pursue amidst theirhectic academic schedule is provided.

ACADEMIC CLUB:It drives student initiatives in various academic activities in the institute. Theclub hosts paper presentations, quizzes, case contests, entrepreneurship games, talks by

eminent speakers, seminars and workshops. The club encourages tie-ups with NGOs, youthclubs and social organizations to contribute their learning towards society.

CULTURAL CLUB (SYMPHONY):IITTM aims at chiseling and moulding personalities so that they

are a unique blend of humanistic scholarship and artistic creation. Whether you are interestedin visual art, music, literature, dance or any other field of art, the Club has something to offereveryone. Every month the club meets in the institute premises for interesting activities.Renowned artistes from various fields are invited to interact with the students. Workshops bycelebrities are held in a variety of different fields to help inculcate an interest to develop skills.

SPORTS CLUB: A variety of activities are organized by the Club as a part of overall personalitydevelopment of the students. The club participates in many local tournaments. Friendly fixtureswith local clubs and institutions are organized frequently. Yoga, Cricket, Soccer, Volley-ball,Badminton, Table Tennis, and many more are provided by the Club. The well equipped gymprovides opportunities to students to tone their muscles.

LITERARY CLUB:It is dedicated to students sharing literary interests. The purpose of this club isto offer a relaxing and intellectual platform for students to exchange ideas, emotions andtheories on select readings through creative writing, debating and quizzing. The Wall magazineis a reflection of the literary and painting skills of the students. From poems and puzzles toarticles and stories, there is a wide variety of contribution on display. The editorial boardconducts regular competitions to encourage these talents.

MOVIE CLUB: It encourages students to break free from the pressures of study and take time tosavour the pleasures of entertainment. Popular Hollywood and Bollywood movies are screenedin the auditorium.

TOUR AND ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES:Apart from supporting a wide range of activities that servethe professional and intellectual interests of the students, the institute organizes varioussightseeing, adventure and destination tours for students at Manali, Goa, Rajasthan, Kerala,Dharamsala, Patnitop and many more places.

EVENTS

National Tourism Quiz: The Institute began the practice made a beginning by organizing anational level Quiz Competition annually since 2001. The objective of this event is to bringtogether the students pursuing education in Travel and Tourism Programme from across thecountry on a single platform to foster healthy interaction .The winners are conferred with a

World Tourism Day Celebration: Various competitions and social activities are under takenevery year on 27th September to commemorate the World Tourism Day. The basic motive is tocreate/endow awareness that tourism is vital to regional, national and international communityand to show how it influences the social, cultural, political and economic systems worldwide.

Annual Function: The annual day celebration of the institute is organized every year .As apartof this, many other management institutions are invited to participate in the various items. Co-curricular activities like Quizzes, Group, Solo, Folk & Classical Dances & Songs, Just a Minute,Rangoli, debate to name a few are among the other items organized during the function.
