    Medford Energy CommitteeMeeting Minutes: 5/2/2011City Hall Room 201

    Attending: Rich Cormio, Susan Altman, Bob Paine, Brett Sullivan, Curtis Tuden, Alicia Hunt, JonathanHunt, Jeff GoldsmithAbsent: J.R. Siegel, Fred Laskey, Elisabeth Krautscheid, Jawad Benazzi

    1) Approval of Minutes of April 4th, 2011 meeting-Motion passes

    2) Updates on Energy ProjectsA. Medford PV project:

    - Contract negotiations are still activeB. MHS Hot Water Project:

    - First bids are in but are much higher than original estimates- Contract has gone back out to bid- New bids due back next week

    C. Other municipal buildings:- Had National Grid audits of Public Safety Buildings, NG made

    recommendations and will pay 70% of cost and oversee project- Had National Grid audit of LoConte Ice Rink, still waiting on report- Discussion of city street lights. City owns only the decorative lights and park

    lights and has been looking into LED upgrades.

    3) Update from Web-site Subcommittee- No significant new progress. Committee needs to update tabs (not simple), then will

    review with committee

    4) Update on Kill-A-Watt meters for Medford Library- Email from Elizabeth Krautscheid:

    The Friends of the Library voted and approved theproject in February. I believe we have a near final version of the

    documentation that I will share with everyone by email as soon as it'sready. The meters themselves have been ordered and will be here in acouple days. I'll be meeting with Brian Boutilier, the library director,once the meters are here. We're also going to purchase 4 copies of abooklet (one to go with each meter) geared to kids on energy efficiencyand using the meters from a group called Sprouts for Hope. The cost is$5 each to cover printing.

    Next steps are to meet with Brian, print & laminate the documentation,and hand it all over to the library.

    5) Climate Action Subcommittee- Interviewing interns that have been recommended to us.

    - Resources are still being evaluated with direction coming soon- Actively reaching out to local universities and community for assistance

    6) Green Medford Home Energy Audit Campaign- 40 Households have signed up to participate- Initial audits with Next Step Living will happen soon- Elisabeth will serve as a test case for audits with Susan observing.

    7) Report on tour of wind turbine for Gloucester- Gloucester considering installation of a wind turbine, Bob Paine gave them a tour of

    ours. They had been concerned about noise, but did not find ours to be too noisy

    8) Earth Day Tree Planting- Successfully planted 12 trees on 4/29, nice video with students was made, is

    showing on Channel 3.- Possible adopt a spot program for areas along the river (Susan Altman)

    9) Scheduling of future committee meetings- We would like to reschedule July & August meetings to one meeting in late

    July, please bring your calendars to the June meeting to set a date.- September 5th meeting has been rescheduled for September 12th

    10) New Business

    - Recycling Center tours Susan is working with Waste management on this- NISE: possible energy meter project for Medford (meeting 5/3)- Harvest Your Energy Festival Organization those interested in helping

    should contact Alicia- Brainstorming Sessions

    - The committee would like to hold a formal brainstorming sessionduring its next meeting

    - To make time for brainstorming, we would like members to sendupdates prior to the meeting to the email list. Questions should be brought to the meeting and not sent viaemail. These email updates will be incorporated into the meeting minutes to make them publicly available.
