NEW RELEASES MAY 29, 2012 BACH • NOUVEAUX «BRANDEBOURGEOIS » 7-12 Reconstruction by Bruce Haynes ACD2 2565 La Bande Montréal Baroque | Eric Milnes • With tongue firmly in cheek, ATMA presents six “new” concertos inspired by Bach’s Brandenburg concertos. These “new” concertos 7 to 12 are based on the rich musical inventions in Bach’s cantatas and other vocal works. The late scholar and oboist Bruce Haynes reconstructed them in the spirit of the famous recordings by the Swingle Singers, or of Wendy Carlos’ “Switched on Bach.” Haynes considered these concertos “speculative trials” … whose “humble purpose is to make the point that we can still hear this magnificent music in many guises, much as Bach’s audience would have been accustomed to.” • La Bande Montréal Baroque brings together some of Montréal’s finest early music performers. Under the artistic direction of Susie Napper, the ensemble was created especially for the Montréal Baroque Festival, which since 2003 has been held annually in June in Old Montréal.
