tecture that fuses urban concepts with wild nature. You

are surrounded by contrasts of natural elements like the

multi-colored stone walls, designed furniture, the in and

out glass verandas and taffetas curtains.There is much

use of natural and surrounding resources such as stones

and bamboo for a natural feel. No views are similar, they

all show different aspects of the lake and the volcanoes.

the woodwork with mainly red ceddar and other tropical

Interior designing has been one of the main concern of this pro-

ject and the purpose was to please the eye and create a comforta-

ble living atmosphere. The general atmosphere in the apartments

have a magical texture inspired by the Moroccan Tadelakt. A

really special touch all over floors, kitchen, bathrooms and struc-

tures. It was important to us to make everyone feel peaceful and

private. Therefore accesses and entrances have been carefully

imagined and at some point you will not even notice that there

main gates. Well provided lighting systems : plugs and halogen

spots are numerous that it might take time to discover all its

How to get there ?By road. From Guatemala City, it take approxi-

mately three hours drive. Drive 150 km on the

Pan-American Highway with direction Quetzal-

tenango, then merge on a road to Santa Clara and

San Pablo La Laguna. This is a small charmingroad that offers spectacular views on the lake.

Once you arrive in San Pablo keep driving to San

Marcos La Laguna where you will take a dirt

road to and after another 2 km drive you will ar-

rive in Pasaj-Cap. There are also direct shuttles or

bus services from Guatemala City to San Marcos

la Laguna;

By road & boat. From Guatemala City, it take

approximately two and half hours to join Pana-

jachel. There are numbers of shuttles and buses

that make the trip to that tourist town. Once you

get there you should find the regular boat serviceto San Marcos La Laguna leaving from the Tzan-

juyu dock at the entrance of the town. These pu-

blic boats leave every half hour between 6.30 am

to 7.00 pm. This trip takes no more than 30 minu-

tes and prior to departure you will have to ask the

captain to drop you at Pasaj-Capright before San

Marcos la Laguna, its our private dock.

General servicesCell phone is the only option.Most local operators providea good connection in Pasaj-Capbecause its such wide open area. We are

able to provide you with the service if you desire it. Inform

us early so that we can let you know your phone number

before departure, to give to your friends and family.

Wireless Internet is now available inPasaj-Cap.

Also you will find quite a few internet cafes in San

Marcos (10 mn average distance). This service is

scheduled for 2008 in Pasaj-Cap.

General laundry (sheets, towels) is included

for short term rentals. Personal laundry service

available (about $ 0.75 per pound of cloth).

Catering service : special dinners, events or daily

service. It will be a pleasure to let you discover our

specialities as well as the traditional Guatemalan

cuisine. Just let us know ahead of time.

Drinking water. First courtesy tank is placed in

the flat. For further supply inquire with our servi-

ces (about $ 4.00 per tank of 4 gallons).

Babysitting and local school or Kindergartner.

If required, those services can be arranged.

Cleaning services is included, once a week for

short term rentals and for longer terms fixed by

general rules. Special or daily cleaning services

are available if planned ahead of time.

You can get wood supply delivered from the

village or, if available, from the property supplies :

consult for pricing.

Shopping groceries : Panajachel (30 minutes by

boat) and San Pedro (15 minutes by walking) have

the largest selection of groceries that provides to a

lot of foreign residents and tourists and in San Marcos you

can find the basics. Lets not forget about the very colour-ful markets around, with a very surprising large selection

of vegetables and fruits. Another practical option is to

shop for everything you will need during your stay in one

of the capitals huge supermarkets.

Transportation servicesPrivate transportation services. Whenever you are interested

in it to or from the airport or any other location in the country

we will be able to organize it for you. When you book your flat

just ask us for the fares of those services and make a reservation for one

of them.

Car rentals. Driving in Guatemala is an experience but for our

adventurous and independent guests its a reasonably pricedservice that you could get at the airport. Our property has a

large parking area safe and practical. This solution offers at lot comfort

in terms of freedom to go around.

Public boat (lancha) : see our pagehow to get there ?for time

schedule. These boat rides are an amazing experience in the

company of local women dressed in village patterns dating

back centuries. They leave twice per hour either to San Pedro or Pana-

jachel.

Private boat rental. What do you think of a special party in the

middle of the lake by the full moon? Whenever your schedule

or your wishes dont match with the public boat transportation,

we can arrange for you a private boat from any place on the lake to our

property. If you are interested just inform us.

From Pasaj-Capto San Marcos, San

Pedro. The parking area is located

almost at your door step. There are

also some very cheap mototaxi Tuk-Tuk for

your daily trips to the village of San Marcos.

These little Tuk-Tuk will drive you anywhe-

re nearby at a reasonable price.

This is not a list of events activities. This is

real way of life in Lake Atitlan one of the most ma-

gical place. Therefore a lot of people from all around

the world decided to stay and develop what they li-

ked more and it is not to forget about the Mayan

knowledge and resources. With time it has become

a really rich and creative area where most of activi-

ties exist in a simple and natural way. With the new

age trend in the neighbour villages of San Marcos

and Santa Cruz, you will easily find a good quality

service for the following activities and more.

swimming in the lake right by the door.

Writing workshop. Our friends fromCasa Azul and our neighbour, the

american writer Joyce Maynard, started

these workshops some time ago and it turned out

to be a real success.

Spanish courses.There are quite afew experienced spanish schools around

the lake in either San Pedro and Pana-

jachel. But it is also possible to organize your

sessions at home with a private teacher.

Trekking, hiking, Volcano climbing.One of our favourite walks is this 4 hours hike to

Santa Cruz with its spectacular views and its very

nice spots to take a rest. We also can arrange a guide if

you want to climb up the Volcano of San Pedro.

Mountain bike. A very nice experience, as youcould bike for example the Lake, round trip and

so many other interesting biking itineraries.

Horseback riding. San Pedro (15 minutesaway) is one of the place to go for horseback ri-

ding. Panajachel has a training center at La Finca

La Vega.

Paragliding. A breathtaking experience.Skilled, professional instructors will teach you

to fly from one of the best locations in Central

America. Closest location is half an hour away. They will

provide all the necessary equipments for a spectacular

flight over the lake. Easy to arrange.

Dancing courses. San Pedro, San Marcos,Panajachel have dancing or music schools.

Gym. Panajachel has a well equipped gymcenter.

Swimming. All year ! The refreshing lake wa-ters are at a swimming temperature between 70F

(21C) and 75F (24C).

Diving and snorkelling. Dont hesitate tocome over with your gear as the Lake is so deep

(1.200 feets/400 m) and dive in the very transpa-

rent waters.

Waterskiing, Jet ski. The lake attracts a fewfans sometimes on the week end. If you are one

of them enjoy but make sure to respect the peace

of the area.

Boating, Kayaking, Sailing. This is one ofthe best ways to discover the lake shores and to

move from one village to the next. Kayak rentals

are available in San Pedro.

Fishing. Its an activity that some locals do fora living with their small Cayucos. Restaurants

serve fresh fish from the lake. Why not try it ?

Night life and music. Live music in barsand restaurant could be a daily pleasure. So many

talented musicians all around the lake from different

fields give their own touch to your eating, drinking

meetings. There is a Jazz club in San Marcos, and

Flamenco bars in Panajachel. The Atitlan Music Festival

every March, is an opportunity to discover this exceptional

diversity. San Pedro and Panajachel have very good discos

and clubs which are very active on weekend with Hot

Latin sounds and many more to discover.

DVD rentals and movies. It wont be that difficult(but even better if you bring your laptop) to spend some

time with a good movie. Quite good rentals in Panajachel.

Bookstores and art gallery. You wont need tocarry tons of books with you as the area contains many

bookstores with a diverse book selections. For art lovers, a

nice place to visit is La Galeria with its very large collec-

tion of paintings and exhibitions.

Restaurants. If you decide to move around the lake,hiking or exploring by boat/kayak, you will be surprised to

find so many amazing restaurants in the middle of nowhe-re with their particular ambiance and food and generally

located in gorgeous spots. Apart from that, Panajachel,

San Marcos and San Pedro offer dozens of good choices

of french, italian, chinese restaurants.

EntertainmentDaily trips See chapter transportation and remem-

ber that there are many amazing villages and places in the

surrounding area that you wont find in any guide book but

are worth discovering on your own.

Wild life park, bird watching. There are twonatural parks on the Lake (Santa Lucia and Panajachel)

where you could discover the local wild life. This is alsothe perfect opportunity to bring your binoculars and watch

these amazing birds all over the lake and the property.

Gardening. Thanks to the Mayan art of gardening,the ideal weather conditions and the rich volcanic soils

: gardening is just like magic. What a pleasure to pick

up your lemon or avocadoes from the garden. Beautiful

flowers all over, palm trees.

Coffee plantation. Less than 10 years ago, Pasaj-Cap was a coffee plantation and we kept some remains.

You will be able to see coffee trees and grains. Eventually

you can tour some of the local active plantations.

Cooking Bread and Pizza. A large wooden oven isa working project so that you will soon be able to taste our

home made fresh bread or pizza.

Barbecues. This is a really traditional way of lifearound here....probably because its the kind of ideal place

we imagine for it. There are plenty of areas around the

property for such activities. We will find a way to make

you discover one of the tastiest beefs around.

Shopping, handicraft and antiques. Handicraftand especially textiles, is so rich that it takes years to learn

about the traditional cloths and fabrics. You will also find

some antiques, furniture and ceramics... Each villagearound has its own particular identity and traditional

work.

Considering everything above, your are, may be, wondering when are you going to rest. You will pro-

bably arrange some of these activities on your own or if you need advice we will be more than happy

to help. We can also arrange one or two or even a set of activities to your convenience, booked stress-

free.

Museums. If you are interested to know more aboutthe Mayan civilisation, Panajachel and Santiago have a

local museum.

Weaving, beading or ceramic work shop.For the last twenty years we have been working with the

local artisans creating with them textiles, jewellery. Those

collections are exhibited in the international professional

trade shows and are distributed worldwide. If you have a

special interest in that field, let us know.

Humanitarian Projects. Its an ideal place to stayfor any one working on or interested in a project. We will

be pleased to help you as much as possible.
