High temperature is considered one of the serious symptoms
which hit children; therefore, it is necessary to treat it immediately
because its repercussions may harm the cells of the brain. Accord-
ingly, mothers should be fully acquainted with some facts about
the body’s temperature to know how to deal with it when the tem-
perature of their children becomes high. The following points are
facts about temperature:
The child’s temperature is considered high when it is above 38.5
Celsius. In such case, physicians advise mothers to remove the
child’s clothes and measure his temperature after half an hour.
It is possible to use cool poultices on the child’s forehead, or under
the armpit or between thighs. It is not allowed to use a bath of ice
because the rapid difference of temperature is dangerous against
the child
The bath of water is not dangerous provided the temperature of
water must be two degrees less than the temperature of the child’s
body.
It is not advisable to let the child wear heavy clothes when he shiv-
ers because of the high temperature; however, it is possible to put
a light sheet on his body.
The child’s temperature decreases usually after half an hour from
having the medicine.
Germs, viruses and bacteria are considered the most common rea-
sons behind the child’s high temperature; however, if this high
temperature is a result of a virus, it will decrease without treat-
ment. Yet, if it is a result of bacteria, it is necessary to take antibi-
otics after visiting the physician.
The virus which causes the high temperature may disappear in five
days; in addition, it may disappear within a day as per its type.
