The Prodigal Son-The Compassion of the Father "But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him." (Luke 15; 20) The prodigal son was forgiven by the father in a manner that overwhelmed him. It would have been unreasonable on his part to expect such a greeting considering his abandonment of his father. With sincerity, his hope was that by throwing himself at the mercy of his father, he would find enough acceptance to allow him back to his home, if only as a "hired servant." Yet, there were no reproaches, strained reproaches or heated exchanges. The father did not revert to the past in order to wound and shame his son into acknowledging his sins. He did not reproach his son saying; "I told you so.', 'Where's my money and what did you do with it?' 'I'll put you on probation you fail, and out you go.' There is compassion, acceptance and forgiveness. The father is a model of our Heavenly Father as the unlimited source of grace, forgiveness, and love. As we approach Meat Fare Sunday-Last Judgment, remember that the judgment is real, but it doesn't obscure God's infinite love and mercy. His mercy is so great that He sent His Only-Begotten Son into the world in order to die and rise from the dead so that we may have abundant life in His Name. Even though through sin we have squandered our inheritance and left our home, God proclaims a feast when we are found. God's compassion and mercy are not signs of weakness, but rather a sign of His omnipotence. He is pained by our sins, and will seek us out. redeems your life from the pit, He crowns you with steadfast love and mercy." (Psalm 103 3-4) Within the Church's Holy Tradition there are many treasures we can draw from. We have the Bible, the Liturgy, the Sacraments of the Church-Confession and the Holy Eucharist, the Holy Fathers and Mothers of the Church, the teachings of the Magisterium-the teaching authority of the Church-Papal Encyclicals. And through the continuing, living tradition of the Church, we must never lose sight of the compassion of the Father which is beyond theological systems and canonical norms. It's God's compassion and mercy that tempers His justice. When we sin, it is God's compassion that brings us to conversion and repentance and to prayer and alms giving. It was God's mercy and compassion that made Him 'bow the heavens' and come down to us in our misery. Reflection-What is a father if not an overflowing of love? But do we feel it as such? How do we live this filial relationship to the Father? Do we really know the meaning of fatherhood-if only the purely human and earthly-without which this relationship to the father no longer makes sense? Are we able to understand and to live the meaning and implications of the tenderness and compassion of the Father? How does this affect us n our life? The Holy Spirit prompts us to become more aware of the mystery of the Father, not only in name but as a living person, a person with whom we can enter into a living relationship with through Christ. It is the prayer of the Spirit who sighs in us "Abba, Father". Let us remember the words of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Romans; "A living water murmurs in me; come to the Father."

Bishop Robert Barron’s

CONVERSION — Following the Call of Christ

Using six stories from the Bible, Bishop Barron demonstrates

how ordinary, sinful people (like each of us) are met by Jesus and

called to a better life through Him. The common theme in each story

is the turning of all one's attention and energy toward an ever deeper,

personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Conversion is not so much a

one-time event, but a life-long process. Jesus Christ calls us in

thousands of different ways to follow Him, but are we hearing His

voice?

Jan 26 – The Woman at the Well & The Journey of The Magi

SEVEN DEADLY SINS / SEVEN LIVELY VIRTUES The seven deadly sins are patterns of dysfunction that lead us to unhappiness. Bishop Barron explains the pervasiveness of pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust and shows us how to counteract these sinful patterns with through a conscious focus of opposition, which are the “seven lively virtues”. The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness. Feb 9 – Pride & Humility; Envy & Admiration Feb 16 – Anger & Forgiveness; Sloth & Zeal Feb 23 – Avarice & Generosity; Gluttony & Asceticism; Lust & Chastity

EUCHARIST — Sacred Meal, Sacrifice, Real Presence Take a deeper look at the “source and summit” of our Faith, the Eucharist. Bishop Barron brings to light the Blessed Sacrament’s reality as a sacred meal, the sacrifice necessary for communion with God, and as the Real Presence of Christ. The Eucharist is not symbol, but is truly the body. Blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. Mar 1 – Sacred Meal & Sacrifice Mar 8 – The Real Presence

Best Wishes, Health, Happiness and God's Blessings.
