Morocco The Haut Commissariat au Plan (Higher Planning Commission – an independent government statistical institution) issued a press release analysing the 2017 National Child Labour Survey figures.

Tanzania A workshop on sharing experiences on the fight against child labour: “Generation Safe & Healthy”. This one day workshop will be held in Tabora Tanzania and will draw participants from the Department of Labour, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), ILO constituents, ARISE II implementing partners and stakeholders both at national and local level (District and Ward Child Protection Teams of Urambo and Uyui, Tabora), to share experiences on the elimination of child labour. Guest of honour (TBC): the Regional Commissioner for Tabora region who is also the Patron for the elimination of child labour in Tabora. The event will be jointly facilitated by ILO, the Ending Child Labour in Tobacco Foundation (ECLT) and the Japan Tobacco International (JTI). Around 70 participants are expected to attend the workshop.

During the week of the WDACL 2018, the ILO will support one day field visit to two districts followed by a one day

Country Planned events/activities Contact person workshop with the District and Child Protection teams that were created with the support from ARISE II Project. Ms. Irimu Wangui, from the ILO Lusaka Office will participate in the field visits and district level workshops.

Uganda The Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) is taking the lead in organizing the celebration of this year’s WDACL 2018. Every year, a National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the WDACL is constituted, spearheaded by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development. The NOC includes different partners in the fight against child labour and the protection of children’s rights. The committee includes members of the Child Labour National Steering Committee and other partners implementing programmes to tackle child labour. The committee has been holding regular meetings in preparation for this year’s WDACL celebration in Uganda. Among others, key activities for this year include:

1. Press conference 2. Newspaper supplements 3. A mini child labour film festival in Gulu District 4. Printing and dissemination of WDACL materials (T-shirts, Posters, and Brochures) 5. Exhibition 6. Marching with Local Brass band 7. SCREAM activities with children at risk of or formerly in child labour

See brief summary of these activities below - Press conference: A press conference is planned for 8 June 2018, as one of the pre-World Day activities. Major Media Houses are invited to participate. The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is organizing the press conference where the Minister will make a Press Statement on the WDACL 2018 celebrations in Uganda. The Federation of Uganda Employers, The National Organization of Trade Unions, project partners and members of the Child Labour National Steering Committee are also invited to attend the press conference. The press conference will be key in informing and shaping the media conversation around the WDACL 2018 celebrations in Uganda.

Newspaper supplement: A newspaper supplement on WDACL will be run in at least two of the key national newspapers on 12 June 2018. A story will be compiled on the events of the day and featured on the ILO website. Further media coverage following

Printing of WDACL materials (T-shirts, Posters, and Brochures): WDACL 2018 materials are being produced locally, including banners, posters, brochures and T-shirts with messages focusing on the theme of the WDACL. These materials will be disseminated at national and district levels in the week of 11-15 June and throughout the month of June.

The Main Event on 12 June 2018: The main event will take place on 12 June 2018 in one of the ILO- ECLT PPP project districts of Gulu. Approximately 400-500 guests are expected to attend. The event will include several activities funded by different stakeholders. The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development’s top political and technical leadership are expected to participate along with representatives from employers’ and workers’ organizations, parliamentarians from the host District, development partners (UNICEF, UNESCO, UNFPA, WHO, FAO and others), media, NGOs (both international and national), civil society organizations (including schools, youth and women's groups, and others), parents, teachers and children.

Exhibition: An exhibition will be held at the venue of the main event where various products relating to child labour will be exhibited for the guests to view. Several stakeholders will take part in the exhibition to show case their work and products in relation to the WDACL theme and show all kinds of materials produced on combating child labour.

Local Brass band: As the first event of the day, a local brass band will lead a march through the district. Children and some of the key stakeholders taking part in the main event will join in the procession through the host district before it finally makes its way to the venue for the main celebration.

Newspaper supplements WDACL supplements will be published in two leading newspapers.

SCREAM activities with children at risk of or formerly in child labour: Activities with children will include drama, songs and skits in relation to the theme of the WDACL 2018, and testimonies by children formerly in child labour. Two weeks prior to the WDACL celebrations, using the SCREAM methodology, children will be engaged in activities to prepare poems, songs, drama skits and artwork. These

Country Planned events/activities Contact person activities will be in line with the theme of the year “Generation Safe and Healthy” as a way of advocating for the withdrawal of children from hazardous labour and making work environments safe for the children of legal working age.

A mini child labour film festival A series of film shows will take place in the host district to bring the WDACL message to the local community. Activities include daytime school and community outreach film/video shows. Selected video documentaries will be screened showing the causes and consequences of child labour in Uganda and interventions to put an end to the problem.
