What do ADDC, the 63rd Annual ADDC Convention and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow have in common? Lafayette, Louisiana! Longfellow's first epic poem, Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie, published in 1847, is a story of loss and devotion set against the deportation of the Acadian people in 1755. The poem elevated Longfellow to be the most famous writer in America and has had a lasting cultural impact, especially in Lafayette. This year Lafayette, the heart of Acadiana and the unofficial capital of Cajun Country, hosts our 63rd ADDC Convention. The ADDC members and guests attending Convention get to lose themselves in their rich French heritage blended with Spanish, American, Indian and African influences for a Convention no one will soon forget. The Desk and Derrick Club of Lafayette and I would like to personally invite each of you to the 63rd Annual Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs Convention. Your host club is working hard to ensure all attendees will have the time of their lives! Lafayette, well known for its unique joie de vie, or love of life, is situated in the heart of a unique cultural region known as Acadiana. You are sure to enjoy Lafayette’s warm hospitality, Cajun culture and robust energy industry. With our theme Energy Education: Tomorrow’s Promise, I hope you are able to take advantage of Lafayette’s booming energy industry, amazing food and an incredible historic culture highlighted in amazing and uniquely Cajun field trips: swamp tours, safety management systems, Port of Iberia tour and Bristow helicopters, just to name a few. Thursday’s combination of education and fun will not disappoint. A total of nine seminars will be offered ranging from Grace Notes, Microsoft Office, and Interviewing Techniques & Coaching to Cajun Zydeco dancing and Southern Comfort Foods cooking demonstrations! Join us for the Thursday night icebreaker to be held at beautiful Vermilionville, a genuine Cajun experience complete with an authentic Cajun band. The events of Friday and Saturday are going to be transformational. Throughout the days’ sessions, informed and entertaining speakers Ben Broussard, Louisiana Oil & Gas Association and Scott Angelle, Public Service Commissioner and former Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, will enlighten us on issues that are pertinent to the energy industry. Friday’s Industry Symposium will feature the invaluable role energy plays in the world. Convention will close on Saturday night with guest speaker Fred Mills, Louisiana State Senator. You will come back from Convention reinvigorated and reenergized! Before I close, I’d like to thank each of you for attending the 2014 ADDC Convention. You, the members, are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we do without your support and membership. Throughout this Convention, I encourage you to stay engaged, meet new people, and experience all Lafayette has to offer! Visit the ADDC web site www.addc.org for updates and more information on sights and activities. Livin’ Lovin’ Lafayette awaits you, so register now! CAJUN DELIGHTS

Come get your “food” on and enjoy a little Cajun cooking demonstration with a world renowned chef from Zea’s Rotisserie & Grill. The idea for Zea’s began in Hawaii, 1990, where three noted New Orleans chefs—Hans Limburg, Greg Reggio and Gary Darling—met on a celebrity-studded catering assignment. By the time the job was done, the trio had fused their diverse backgrounds into an experienced culinary team. They named their new collaboration The Taste Buds. In 1997, with one successful restaurant concept under their belts, The Taste Buds launched Zea Rotisserie & Grill. Inspired by the rotisserie cooking found at European food markets, Zea became a polished casual restaurant serving classic American fare infused with mouth-watering international flavors and they are willing to share some of those flavors with you!

Come join us at beautiful VERMILIONVILLE for a night of culture and fun! Opened in 1990, Vermilionville is a living history museum and folklife park that preserves and represents the cultural resources of the Acadian, Native American, and Creole cultures from the time period 1765 to 1890. The park sits on a 23-acre site on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion with 19 attractions, including seven restored original homes with more than 13 local artisans that provide demonstrations on a variety of essential crafts performed by the early settlers.

FR IDAY NIGHT FUNCT ION

The Courier de Mardi Gras (Louisiana French pronunciation: [kuɾiɾ d maɾdi ɡɾa] is a traditional Mardi Gras event held in many Cajun communities of south Louisiana on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Courier de Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday Run" and while it is usually held on Fat Tuesday, we will be doing our own on Friday, September 26, 2014. So get your costumes ready (or just come and enjoy ours) and your appetites (for food and partying fun) and come enjoy a taste of Cajun Party!

After touring the grounds, head to the Pavillion for some delicious Cajun food and dance to the music of La Recolte, an authentic cajun band. La Recolte has been together since April of 2012. This five-member band consists of an array of talented musicians. La Recolte is traditional and highly influenced by the South Louisiana dance halls of the mid-1900's. Belting out waltzes of relationships gone bad as well as driving two-steps that will get you pumping. La Recolte is sure to get you on the dance floor for a night of Cajun fun.
