Pour réaliser cette bibliographie, l'équipe dépouille régulièrement environ 210 périodiques (on peut en obtenir la liste au secrétariat de l'Institut). Certains articles publiés aux Etats-Unis sont repérés dans Y American Historical Review (AHR). Dans le cas des livres et des thèses la compilation est faite d'abord à partir d'un examen des exemplaires décrits; elle est ensuite complétée par un recours à la Bibliographie du Québec, Canadiana, Dissertation Abstracts, Thèses canadiennes et le Répertoire des thèses de doctorat soutenues devant les universités de langue française. Le fichier cumulatif du centre de bibliographie contient plusieurs milliers de titres publiés depuis 1966 ; on peut le consulter en s'adressant aux directeurs.
Pour des raisons d'espace nous avons éliminé la répétition des titres d'une section à l'autre en la remplaçant par un simple renvoi au numéro.
