Abstract: Forest management in Alpine protected areas. The "Mountain forest management" group is the most recent created working group within the Alpine Network of Protected Areas (ALPARC). It deals with the fundamental question in the protection of the Alps: the management of natural resources. Forests are one of the most sought-after and traditional resources for the Alpine culture. Forest management has to comprise several aspects: damages caused by ungulates and parasites, the relevance of forests as a protection barrier from natural disasters, abiotic factors (storm, snow, avalanches), natural scenery and economical value. One of the goals of this colloquium was the encouragement of a lively exchange between experts in forest management in protected areas and the topic of public relation.
