Restaurant next to the Bus terminalOznur: Are you the owner of the restaurant?Restaurant owner: The building belong to the Catholic Church. We have been renting it since 1986.Oznur: How many people come to this restau-rant? What do they usually ask you.RO: Not a lot of people come here. They ask us directions towards the historical district.Oznur: So people seemed confused after arri-ving here?RO: I think the council doesn’t care enough about this district. The publicity made for the city is very important. There is no orientation and intrest towards the historical part of the city. Angle of vision is very important. I repeat myself, but introduction to the city is very im-portany. Tourists don’t stay in Mersin, they are directed towards other cities on the coast.Oznur: Do tourists stop and eat here?RO: Yes. The location of the restaurant is very good from that point of view, as you serve two places. One is the bus station (terminal), and second, the harbour. But the tourists complain about the sound of all the buses coming and going, a German couple even recorded it this morning. Moreover, the pedestrian crossing is not enough. Two disabled people came and they couldn’t cross. So we had to help them.Oznur: Which days do most people come here?RO: Sundays and Fridays. We don’t have a lot of them on Saturdays... But if one of these ships arrives, three thousand potential customers come at once. But most of them don’t cross. They go towards the cultural center.

Bibliothèque?Dans le futur developpement urbain envisagé par les autorités de Mersin, l’actuelle bibliothèque municipale pourrait changer de fonction et être reconvertir en hôtel pour le touristes et hommes d’affaire qui visitent la ville.Dèpuis longtemps, elle constitue un symbôle de la vie culturelle et communautaire de la ville, ainsi qu’une entrée vers son ancien centre historique. Apart sa fonction culturelle, on retrouve ici des activités diverses comme des centres de formation et de conseil pour la recherche de tra-vail, des aides à l’integration des immigrants, des cours de musique, et meme des organismes qui aident à la protection de l’enfant.
