The Château de Chantilly is encased by majestic gardens spanning 300 acres. The King’s gardener André Le Nôtre achieved here one of his finest creations, which he proclaimed to be his favorite. Further enhancing the site’s natural beauty, the Anglo-Chinese garden and Hamlet (which inspired Queen Marie-Antoinette at Versailles) were added during the 18th century, followed by the English Garden in the 19th century. Chantilly is also one of the world’s foremost equestrian capitals. Its monumental Great Stables, designed in the 18th century, now house a museum on the history of horses, host equestrian shows, and are the impressive backdrop to prestigious races held at the Chantilly tracks.

Le château de Chantilly est entouré d’un parc majestueux d’une superficie de 115 hectares. Il comporte plusieurs éléments : le jardin à la française dessiné par le jardinier du roi André Le Nôtre au XVIIe siècle – son préféré parmi toutes ses créations, le jardin anglo-chinois du XVIIIe siècle et son hameau (qui a inspiré la reine Marie-Antoinette à Versailles) et le jardin anglais du XIXe siècle. Chantilly, c’est aussi l’une des capitales du monde équestre. Ses Grandes Ecuries, chef-d’œuvre architectural du XVIIIe siècle, abritent aujourd’hui le musée du Cheval, proposent des spectacles équestres, et offrent un décor impressionnant aux courses prestigieuses qui se déroulent chaque année à l’hippodrome de Chantilly.

Domaine de Chantilly

Just 25 miles north of Paris, Chantilly is a spectacular example of French cultural, artistic, and architectural heritage. In 1830, Henri d’Orléans, Duke d’Aumale and son of King Louis-Philippe, inherited the centuries-old estate and devoted his life to its restoration and embellishment, with the wish that Chantilly become a public museum. The Duke’s bequest included an extraordinary collection of 900 Old Master paintings, 5,000 drawings, and 60,000 books among which are some of the most precious illuminated manuscripts in the world. The castle also presents beautiful staterooms of the Princes de Condé and private suites of the Duke d’Aumale that showcase the refinement of French decorative arts.

A seulement 40 km de Paris, Chantilly est un joyau du patrimoine culturel, artistique et architectural en France. En 1830, Henri d’Orléans, duc d’Aumale et fils du roi Louis-Philippe, en devient propriétaire et consacre sa vie à sa restauration et à son embellissement, en formant le voeu que ce site soit ouvert au public en tant que musée. La donation du duc comprend son incroyable collection – 900 tableaux de maîtres, 5.000 dessins et 60.000 livres dont des manuscrits enluminés les plus précieux au monde. Le château renferme également les salons d’apparat des princes de Condé et les appartements privés du duc d’Aumale, témoins de l’art décoratif français à son sommet.

Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly

Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly (FODC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created in 2015 with the mission to build awareness and raise philanthropic support for the Domaine de Chantilly. FODC promotes a wider knowledge of Chantilly and engages an international community of benefactors who are committed to preserving this remarkable historic site and world-class art collection, who have a deep appreciation for its beautiful gardens, and who wish to help ensure Chantilly’s standing as a leading equestrian center. These efforts are led by a Board of Directors composed of renowned philanthropists, collectors, and cultural enthusiasts united in their dedication to sustaining the Duke d’Aumale’s legacy.

Créée en 2015, l’association «Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly» (FODC) s’est donnée pour mission de faire rayonner le Domaine de Chantilly et de lui apporter un soutien financier. Elle favorise une meilleure connaissance de Chantilly et réunit des mécènes, venant du monde entier, désireux de préserver ce site historique remarquable et sa superbe collection d’art, qui ont une vive appréciation pour ses jardins magnifiques, et qui souhaitent promouvoir ce centre majeur pour le cheval. Ses actions sont guidées par un conseil d’administration composé de grands philanthropes, collectionneurs, et passionnés de culture qui s’attachent à sauvegarder l’héritage du duc d’Aumale.
