Feedback Questionnaire HRbuilders
France InterimManagers
HRbuildersNovember 2018

The number of MT firms: current total, evolution and split by category
• According to Burtin, the number of MT firms in France has doubled in the last decade
• In all likelihood this reflects both:o The growth of the MT marketo The low barriers to entry

• The Xerfi study commissioned by FnMTidentifies 89 players (2016), in addition to individual freelancers working directly
• The MT guide made by Burtin lists 72 players (2016)
• Our own research leads to 65 active MT firms; a number of firms listed by the above sources appear not to be doing MT after all, or have disappeared

Key messages
• In terms of being able to offer attractive missions to HR IMs:
o Being a specialist IM firm focused on HR clearly confers un advantage
o Being a relatively small IM firm is not a major disadvantage
• Having a physical address in Ile-de-France has a big impact on the IM firm’s
o Ability to do business within Ile-de-France
o Credibility with clients outside Ile-de-France
• Also for an international IM firm, it is rather important to communicate in French (website,
newsletters, …)
• It is no problem at all for an IM firm to call on its community of IMs whenever a client is
looking for a manager in a CDI position
• Opinions are divided on the question whether a company prefers a manager with CDD over
an IM

Extrêmement important Fort important Peu important Aucune importance
Key messages
• Four characteristics of an IM firm are very important for IMs:
o The ability to establish a good match between the nature of the assignment on one hand and
the profile and wishes of the IM on the other hand
o The efficient management of the tripartite between IM, IM firm and client
o The availability of the IM firm’s consultant to the IM throughout the process
o The frequency and diversity of (potential) assignments offered to the IM
• Providing “secondary” services to IMs is certainly a nice-to-have but not essential:
o The opportunity of interacting with other IMs via events organized by the IM firm
o Communicating on relevant topics to the IMs via newsletters, events, etc.
o Legal-administrative support to IMs
• The use by the IM firm of the IM’s preferred communication channel for alerting of
potential assignments is of medium importance
• Providing a potential stepping stone toward a CDI position at an IM client is of little
importance

Extrêmement intéressé Fort intéressé Peu intéressé Aucun intérêt
Key messages
• Few IMs have a veto against any type of client company, which probably reflects their
impatience to be active no matter what
• That being said, IMs are least interested in working for PMEs and start-ups
• Interestingly, 1 out of 4 IMs has little or no interest in working for large French groups
• Most interest of IMs is in working for French subsidiaries of large international groups and
for ETIs

Key messages
• Even though opinions are divided on the question whether a company prefers a manager
with CDD over an IM (see Question 1), IMs themselves clearly prefer a CDD over a freelance
contract
• IMs prefer portage salarial as a contracting formula over a freelance contract
• One third of IMs have no interest whatsoever in a CDI formula
