Family most likely of French origin, cited Fontenais, Canton Jura, before 1800. Humbert Francis, 1749-1818, Porrentruy; Jesuit in 1765, professor in the College of Eichstätt (Bavaria) and Porrentruy. Took refuge in Solothurn in 1793 where he was professor at the seminary, 1794-1817.
