Immer besser unterrichten
trotz unterschiedlichster Lernvoraussetzungen besonders nachhaltig.
unterrichtende Lehrer geeignet.
Die Themen:
English around the world: Australia | Media | Teenage life | Internships and
jobs
Der Band enthält:
10 Stationen pro Themenbereich
insgesamt über 40 Arbeitsblätter als Kopiervorlagen
einen umfangreichen Lösungsteil

Vorwort

Task 1What do you know about Jamie Oliver? Write everything you know into your exercise book. Use the internet if necessary.
Task 2Compare your solutions with a partner.
Task 3Read the following text carefully. Highlight all the words that you don’t understand and look them up in a dictionary.
Reading – Fifteen CornwallStation 6 Name:
Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall After his huge success because of his TV-series Jamie’s Kitchen, Jamie Oliver opened a new restaurant called Fifteen in Cornwall in 2006. The main idea of Fifteen was to offer young, unemployed people a chance to work.
Local and fair fruits and vegetables
Besides, the programme only uses local vegetables and fruits and spends one million pound every year to pay for their farmers’ salaries. One of the farmers says that his job once wasn’t enough to feed his family, but now provides much more money for him and his family.
A chance for disadvantaged youth
Emily H. (22), who is part of the group of young chefs to graduate from Fifteen Cornwall‘s scholarship programme this year says that she wouldn’t have any career prospects without the programme. The young woman had a lot of problems when she heard about the programme two years ago: She worked in a factory, as a shop assistant and as a delivery driver. But her life after the programme changed: After the graduation she takes up her first position as a chef in a restaurant. Emily’s life is an exception as other young apprentices come from backgrounds that are much worse: Many of them have a criminal past or drug and alcohol problems. Other ones had to face abuse or suffer from low self-esteem.
How to apply for Jamie Oliver’s programme?
Applicants for the programme must be between 16 and 24, must be unemployed and must live in Cornwall. Jones, training and development chef of Fifteen, says that some of their applications were written by grandmothers or social services. He also mentions that they have had applications which were written on prison papers. Round about 100 applicants will

Task 5Read the following questions and write down the correct answers into your exercise book.
1. When did Jamie open the restaurant Fifteen in Cornwall?
2. What does the text say about Emily H.’s life before she had become a part of Jamie’s programme?
3. What kind of teenagers were / will be chosen for the project?
4. Who can apply for the programme?
5. What happens during the job interview?
6. What does CEO M. Thomson say about the project?
Reading – Fifteen CornwallStation 6 Name:
be invited for an interview. Selection is almost the reverse of a normal recruitment process: usually you look for candidates with the best degrees, no criminal records etc.; here we‘re looking for the least employable. But at the same time, Jones says that applicants which will be chosen for the project must be unique in a certain way and they must be willing to complete the hard programme. The interviews include a taste test: Here the applicants have to say what they taste and therefore they must have a sense for and interest in food.
The future of Fifteen
CEO of the project, M. Thomson thinks that Fifteen became a successful brand which should be developed further to help young people in need.

Transcripts of the listening comprehension texts
Mrs. Robinson: Good morning, how can I help you?
Mr. Thompson: Hello, my name is Matthew Thompson. I have a job interview today. May I speak to Mrs. Robinson?
Mrs. Robinson: Good morning Mr. Thompson. I am Mrs. Robinson. Nice to meet you. Follow me, please.
Mr. Thompson: Nice to meet you, too. I am really sorry for being too late, but I could not find your company.
Mrs. Robinson: Well, you are here now. Why did you apply for a job at our company, Mr. Thompson? Do you have your application and curriculum vitae with you?
Mr. Thompson: No, I’m sorry. I forgot my application, but I can tell you why I have applied for the job. The reason is that I need a new job and I like big companies.
Mrs. Robinson: Ah, I see… What do you like most about our company and products?
Mr. Thompson: Uhmmm… I like that your employees do not have to work at a late hour or on the weekends.
Mrs. Robinson: So, you like to have a lot of free-time and you would not appreciate to do any extra hours at work?
Mr. Thompson: Yes, exactly.
Mrs. Robinson: We are planning to improve some of our products which were invented in 2000 as we mentioned on our homepage. Do you have any ideas how we could manage this?
Mr. Thompson: No, sorry. I did not have a look at your homepage beforehand.
Mrs. Robinson: Alright, Mr. Thompson. Thank you very much. We will give you a call in a few days.
Mr. Thompson: Okay, thank you. Bye.
Track 7 – Station 4: Listening I – An unsuccessful job interview (Internships and jobs, page 8)
Sarah: Hi Mom, yes I’m fine. Everyone is really nice and I like my new job. I have to get up at 3 a.m. every morning. We are really busy at the moment because we have to bake a lot of wedding cakes. My colleagues are friendly and helpful. Last week, I had been unconcentrated and I dropped a cake. I was really scared, but everyone was nice and told me that this happens all the time.
Brandon: Hey Mat, how are you? I’m fine, thank you, but I’m really tired. I had a night shift which means that I had to get up early. Being a cop can be extremely cool, but annoying at the same time because some people try to provoke you. Last night, we arrested a 16-year-old teenager because he had tried to steal a car. Well, it was his dad’s car actually. My partner, Toby, is really cool. He is 25 and married.
Aria: Hi Vanessa, I really miss you. My colleagues are much older than I am and we have nothing in common. They treat me like a little girl in this office. The bank is nice though, but I would like to see a new section, the investment, during the second half of my internship. I hope that this will be more interesting. I would like to meet young people, too. I heard that we will get some new interns next week. Wish me luck.
