Linoleum Ingredients

The roots of linoleum

The word “linoleum” is derived from its Latin roots, linum (linseed) and oleum (oil), the two main ingredients that make up this floor covering. It’s one of the only products on the market that uses all-natural, raw and renewable materials. Almost no other floor covering has earned so many major environmental certificates.

Biodegradable

Linseed oil (32%)Extracted from flax seeds, linseed oil is the first ingredient and the main binding agent used in linoleum.

Wood flour (30%)Only all-natural fillers here, using wood flour from Scandinavia or Germany.

Limestone (15%)Ground up limestone is turned into chalk and added in as additional filler.

Jute (9%)This long organic fiber is spun to create the product’s backing.

Resin (7%)Natural resins from plantation trees are used as the second binding agent.

Colored pigments (5%)We use all-natural and sustainable pigments that are 100% free of lead, cadmium and chromium.

Bring the outside in

The Gerflor DLW Linoleum Landscape Collection is a 2.5 mm calendered sheet flooring in 6'6" wide rolls. The colored design throughout the homogeneous construction is made with natural raw materials, including linseed oil, natural tree resins, wood flour, limestone, and colored pigments. The flooring is protected by a factory-applied PUR polyurethane surface treatment that provides easy maintenance, stain resistance and reduces the need to refinish the flooring. Almost no other floor covering has earned so many major environmental certifications.

*The best defense against the spread of infections is the implementation of an effective cleaning method.

Linoleum may have a TEMPORARY yellow cast, caused by oxidation of linseed oil, which will vary in intensity based on color of material and room conditions. The intensity of the yellowing will be more visible on lighter colors and will disappear when exposed to light.
